Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 1025: Chapter 483: Easy to Luxury, Hard to Frugality (First Update, Monthly Ticket Request!)

Upon looking around, he discovered that Quentin Parker’s house was in an excellent location, not only high up on a small hill but also affording a panoramic view of the whole neighborhood.

Mrs. Fang’s house and Miss Tang’s house were positioned east and west, forming an equilateral triangle with Quentin Parker’s house.

They flew over from the Eastern Region in the morning, arriving in California with a five-hour time difference; it was now already past five in the afternoon.

The sun, still radiant and hot, cast a light with the warmth of evening.

The neighborhood was lush and green, with a towering primordial forest behind them, making one feel as if they were in a dreamy woodland where all pursuits faded away, leaving only the desire to sit and watch the sunrise and sunset in endless tranquility.

Of course, that was impossible.

Places with people inevitably have conflicts, and places with animals are even more a scene of bloodshed.

The two stood on the terrace for a moment and already saw a herd of deer darting out from the woods, running around the neighborhood.

Soon, raccoons rushed over, chasing the vulnerable young deer, and within a few steps, one raccoon bit the neck of a newly-born fawn and dragged it back into the woods behind the neighborhood.

Shortly afterward, the sun continued to dip westward, and as the light drew closer to the horizon, the sky began to show hints of color, while several bears began to amble out in search of food.

Lawrence Winters: ”...”

She rubbed her eyes, incredulous, ”Are those... real bears?!”

Kenneth Osborne nodded, equally amazed, ”They shouldn’t be raised by people around here, should they?”

”Who would keep bears as pets for no reason? We’re not living in a warrior nation,” Lawrence Winters teased, ”This place sure is... full of wild charm.”

Saying that, she remembered the car keys given by Quentin Parker and handed one to Kenneth Osborne, ”This is from Quentin; apparently the car is in his garage.”

Kenneth Osborne looked at the car key in his hand, ”...A Porsche? To these wealthy people, does this not even count as money?”

On this point, Lawrence Winters resonated deeply with him.

They grew up together and had only graduated two years ago; their mindset hadn’t entirely detached from their small-town origins, so they truly understood each other’s shock and humor.

Though Lawrence Winters had seen more of the world than Kenneth Osborne, thanks to Nick Zeller taking her around to check feng shui, she had never encountered someone of Quentin Parker’s level.

So she particularly understood what Kenneth Osborne meant, and with him, she never had to put on the airs of a ’sage.’

Lawrence Winters’ expression relaxed slightly, and she chuckled, ”Isn’t it? It’s like how in ’Dream of the Red Chamber’ Granny Zhao described the extravagant way the Zhen family of Jiangnan received the imperial entourage four times, ’spending silver like dirt, everything is piled like a mountain and sea; they don’t even care about the phrase ’such a pity’.’”

She nodded emphatically and said again, wistfully, ”For the wealthy, it truly seems they don’t even care about the phrase ’such a pity.’”

Kenneth Osborne remembered this passage as well.

He hadn’t read many novels, but back then when Lawrence Winters was obsessed with ’Dream of the Red Chamber,’ he read along and retained some vague memories of the content.

Kenneth Osborne nodded, ”Indeed, that’s the truth. Even if we become just as rich in the future, we probably couldn’t spend like they do.”

Lawrence Winters nodded, grinning, ”Of course not, we didn’t grow up in wealthy families, we know the hardships of earning money ourselves, even if we become billionaires we’d still remember to turn off the porch light on the wall at night to save electricity.”

Kenneth Osborne smirked as he laughed along with her.

Lawrence Winters rubbed her stomach, ”I’m hungry, Kenneth, should we go out for our first meal today, or should we go to Mr. Zhuge’s place to mooch a meal?”

Kenneth Osborne pondered, ”You go recognize the place at Mr. Zhuge’s side, I’ll go out and buy some groceries so I can cook something; if you’re hungry you can come back to eat, if not you can have it as a late-night snack.”

”That works.” Lawrence Winters smiled, giving him a sidelong look, ”Don’t make me regret bringing you along.”

Kenneth Osborne was also a bit hungry, took out his phone, and opened the map to find the nearest supermarket, started the navigation, and went down together with Lawrence Winters.

Lawrence Winters took the address she got from the organizing committee and went to find the house Mr. Zhuge and others shared.

However, this house was one of the smaller ones in the whole neighborhood, nestled at the southwest corner exit.

Lawrence Winters walked over, taking nearly twenty minutes to reach their house.
