Beneath the Red Dragon

But as he watched the gradually approaching crowd, there were only a few people left in front of him. The faces of the human officials were already visible, and he patiently endured.

He perked up his ears, listening to the inquiries and responses of the officials amidst the noisy environment, hoping to gain some insight for himself.

”Hand over your identity plaque,” the official was already going through the motions numbly. With such a tremendous workload, even with three shifts a day, the officials’ faces lacked vitality and appeared lifeless.

A Beastman Adventurer handed over his identity plaque, cautiously wearing a smile.

”What, you’ve only been here for two days, haven’t set up a house or estate, no fixed income or residence, why are you joining the crowd? You can’t prove you can support yourself and your wife, go, go, go,” the official impatiently waved and drove away the Beastman Adventurer.

”Next.”

Another Barbarian Warrior stepped forward and handed over his identity plaque.

Upon seeing it, the official’s expression became animated, and he said kindly, ”Ah, a soldier from the Barbarian Battle Corps, you’ve experienced battles with the corps, you’re a decorated soldier. You should go there, it’s the soldier’s channel. Just register, and you’ll be directly assigned, no need to queue for review here.”

The Barbarian Warrior scratched his head, smiled, retrieved his identity plaque, and pulled his companion towards the building the official pointed to.

As he went, he muttered under his breath, ”It must be Chief Jib. He likes women with big butts and thick legs, didn’t tell us. When we go back, we’ll complain to the Giant Dragon, expose his ugly face.”

Another Barbarian Warrior responded in a low voice, ”Seems like Chief Jib got a reward from the Giant Dragon. He specifically asked for a Centaur Female Warrior as a wife. For that, he didn’t miss a chance to drink with Chiron, the leader of the Centaur Corps.”

The tall and sturdy man listened to the Barbarian’s words, feeling genuine envy. The Centaur Female Warriors were fierce but pretty, having a uniquely sensual beauty in his eyes, though he didn’t have the courage to interact with the Centaur Female Warriors.

It’s said to win the favor of a Centaur Female Warrior, one must conquer them in one-on-one duels. Although the tall man was robust enough, he was just an ordinary farmer, lacking the ability to tame those fierce female warriors.

”It’s a pity. My future children must be sent to the Giant Dragon Academy, learn skills, so they can sleep with whoever they want, unlike me, who has to be picky.”

Various chaotic thoughts flashed through the tall man’s mind, then he stepped in front of the official’s desk, voluntarily handing over his identity plaque.

”Wotefa? What a strange name?” the official internally remarked sarcastically, seeing a small stamp on the identity plaque, indicating this was a long-term resident, then began inquiries.

”Wotefa, right? How many people in your family, any spouse, any residence, any land, can you read?” The official began questioning formally.

”Sir, there’s only just me in my family, came here with neighbors, currently no wife, but I do have a house. As for land, only opened four acres because I’ve been here for just over a year, enough to support myself and a wife, but reading is hard, I can’t recognize many characters,”

The tall man scratched his barn-like hair, responding shyly.

”Not bad, seems like a hardworking good lad,” the official’s face showed satisfaction as he stamped heavily on a document, then handed it to the tall man.

”You’ve passed the preliminary review. If you didn’t lie about your conditions, you’ll likely pass subsequent reviews too. Since you can’t read, I need to explain something,” the official’s face turned serious.

The tall man nodded quickly, his ears perked up to listen.

”Your brought-over wife needs her consent. Of course, typically she’ll agree, as they don’t want to remain as slaves forever,”

The official paused, continued, ”As long as you marry under the bell at the Golden City, your wife will join your household registration. Until she leaves the family, she’ll be considered a Free Person, with all the rights of Free People.”

”But if due to certain reasons, your future wife runs from your family, she’ll be reclassified as a slave, and if you released or permitted her escape, you’ll also be classified as a slave, losing all rights belonging to Free People.”

”So, remember to watch over your wife. If any desertion occurs, notify the Sheriff’s office promptly. Best to arrest her quickly, understand?” The official’s face serious but full of hints.

The tall man nodded, as if pledging allegiance under the Giant Dragon’s banner, solemnly answering loudly, ”Understood, for the Giant Dragon, for the territory, I’ll promptly arrest my wife!”

At this moment, Bay Stream City, after numerous personnel reinforcements, the Pioneer Corps expanded from the original three thousand to over six thousand.

Thanks to the River of Gold traversing the forest, convenient small boats drift downstream regularly bringing the needed supplies for the Pioneer Corps. Under such ample conditions, Bay Stream City’s construction is starting to take shape.
