Chapter 1097: Chapter 378: Guardian Family (3)

Indeed, the Lord Rein before us is also a Flying Knight, meeting the requirements to participate in the Dragon Knight Reserve’s assessment and selection.

Compared to Luther, Halowin considers that the two are evenly matched, with little difference in combat strength.

Yet, when it comes to Rein, Halowin cannot quite understand why he always feels some apprehension, naturally hoping not to encounter him during the selection.

Suddenly, the Fine Gold Emblem in Rein’s pocket vibrated slightly.

One of the special functions of the Fine Gold Emblem is to convey simple and specific messages within the Imperial City range.

The frequency of this vibration just now indicates there’s a situation at headquarters requiring Rein to head over.

”Lord Halowin, I have to go to headquarters, see you tonight.”

”Of course, Lord Rein, as you wish.”

...

Half an hour later.

Inside the task hall of the Sword Holder Headquarters, in Anthony’s office.

”Lord Rein, I apologize for disturbing your rest. Your assigned mission has arrived.”

The one speaking to Rein is an old acquaintance, Anthony, the head of reception.

Only then did Rein realize that the other also held the position of deputy of the task hall affairs.

”Hmm? Assigned mission? So soon? I just reported three days ago, and a task has already been assigned today? By regulations, isn’t it once every three months?” Rein raised an eyebrow, looking at Anthony with a hint of displeasure.

”This... It’s an order from above. The rule is indeed to complete a task once every three months, but it does not specify which day within the three months.”

Anthony chuckled awkwardly as he explained, pointing upwards.

For a brief moment, the room plunged into silence.

Rein couldn’t be clearer; he’s being targeted.

As for who is behind this?

There are several possibilities, but the most likely suspect is the Drum Family.

”What about the specifics of the mission?” After a while, Rein asked, noticing Anthony’s somewhat flickering gaze.

”Uh... Lord Rein, here’s the detailed mission content, ha ha.” Anthony chuckled sheepishly as he quickly handed a stack of documents to Rein.

Upon flipping through, the first thing that caught his eye was an entirely black, fierce Flying Dragon on the cover page, looking extremely similar to a Giant Dragon but much smaller in size, measuring only twelve meters in length according to the side notes.

Below are extensive details: ’Poison Liquid Flying Dragon’... Nome Province... Estimated strength: Legendary Peak...

”Legendary Peak? Lord Anthony, do you also think this assigned mission suits someone like me, who just arrived at headquarters?” Rein said with a sarcastic smile, glancing at Anthony.

”This... ha ha, perhaps it’s because above they know Lord Rein is talented and gifted...” Anthony wiped the sweat from his forehead with a handkerchief while racking his brain for words of praise.

He knows very well there’s an issue here.

This task of killing the Poison Liquid Flying Dragon is one of the highest difficulty missions at the Sword Holder Headquarters.

Any more challenging than this, and it would be epic-level.

Such targets are dealt with by the Imperial Guardian, not the Sword Holders.

”What if I refuse?” Rein said with a smile.

”Lord... Lord Rein, you’re joking. Refusing an assigned mission leads to disciplinary action.” Anthony’s face changed as he replied.

”Alright, I’ll take it on. However, I need to recruit team members, it’ll take some time.”

Rein nodded, reluctantly agreeing.

In fact, upon seeing the task target was a dragon-type creature, he inwardly laughed.

Although unaware of the intentions of those behind the scenes, if the task involves a dragon-type creature, Rein would voluntarily apply to complete this mission even if they hadn’t arranged it.

It’s known his Dragon Bloodline can only be further enhanced by extracting the Blood Essence of powerful dragon-type creatures.

The stronger, the better!

”Certainly! You can depart at the latest within three days. We have dedicated airships at headquarters that can reach the destination directly.”

”Good!”

Watching Rein’s departing figure, Anthony couldn’t help but shake his head in regret, ”What a pity, such a talented young man, ending up offending those above.”

He himself is caught in circumstances; if he disobeys orders from above, his position could be revoked in minutes.

....

Half an hour later.

Inside Greenwood’s room at the Sword Holder Headquarters.

”Did he accept?” Greenwood asked urgently.

”He accepted.” Nathan nodded.

”That’s good, haha. Now it’s impossible for him to back out, so the task is half successful.” Greenwood excitedly slapped the armrest of his chair.

He had considered what to do if Rein refused.

Initially, he believed the likelihood of Rein refusing was slightly higher than accepting the task.

After all, this task is quite troublesome!

”What exactly is the task?” Mia, seeing Greenwood so happy and confident, couldn’t help but ask curiously.

”Kill the Poison Liquid Flying Dragon!” Greenwood said with a hint of pride, enunciating each word.

”What?! Isn’t this one of the most difficult tasks at headquarters?!” Chandler, beside him, was also shocked.

He hadn’t expected Greenwood to use the high-level connections at headquarters to assign such a task to Rein.

This is simply... too unfair.

He couldn’t help but silently mourn for Rein.

A young man from a small town wanting to make a name for himself better follow orders obediently; otherwise, it’s truly seeking doom!

”Do Chandler and I need to do anything further?” Mia inquired while tossing her hair.
