Chapter 487: Chapter 222: Night Raid (Two in One Mega Chapter)_4

“Oh, Major Mary, if it’s convenient, please do share,” Lord Reine raised an eyebrow and said.

“Let me think, once was when Brigadier General Chu Kwein of the Fourth Fleet was assassinated, the situation report seemed to have mentioned the appearance of these large ravens.”

“The second time was when Brigadier General Bravo of the First Fleet was assassinated, the report also described the presence of black birds.”

“As for the third time, I’m a bit unclear.”

“So, I believe that this is very likely just a scouting attempt by the enemy, and after that, they will carry out a real attack!”

Major Mary’s words made everyone’s expression become solemn.

If the powerful witchcraft ‘Raven Call’ was just an appetizer, one could imagine that the subsequent real attack by the adversary would be very difficult to defend against.

“Thanks to Major Mary’s reminder, I recall now that I too had heard that there are a few troublesome individuals within the combat squads of the Eagle Federation Navy, extremely adept at decapitation operations,” Nathaniel said earnestly.

“The Federation Navy? Then they’re in league with that Witchery Curses Master.”

“Then the target must definitely be Lord Reine!” The twin-tailed young girl suddenly thought of something and blurted out.

The other three immediately turned their gazes towards Reine.

Reine gave a slight smile and said, “Don’t worry so much, I’m not that fragile.”

After pondering for a moment, Reine continued to ask, “Major Mary, the two brigadier generals you just mentioned should both be of Great Knight strength, right? What were their causes of death?”

“Yes, both were killed by blades. According to the autopsy results at the time, they believe it was a dagger, and what’s more, it is said not to be an ordinary dagger because both brigadier generals showed signs of excessive blood loss.”

“Moreover, the combat lasted for a very short time. The assassination of Brigadier General Bravo happened in just ten seconds from the cry of alarm until the guard rushed in.”

With a dagger?

And a highly experienced fourth-class ship captain lasted less than ten seconds?

Reine immediately fell into deep thought, his eyes flickering.

He was considering the situation from the assassin’s perspective, comparing and estimating the killing time to gauge the attacker’s strength.

Even with a surprise attack, if the adversary continuously dodged or fled, Reine believed it would be difficult for him to eliminate an experienced Great Knight within ten seconds. From this, two points could be inferred.

Firstly, the enemy’s speed was very fast, and secondly, their attack or the dagger had a great deal of power and was difficult to defend against.

Lastly, the fact that the enemy always used assassination indicated a likelihood that they either did not like or were not skilled at direct combat.

“Is there any way to reduce the enemy’s movement speed within a certain area?” Major Mary seemed to have also thought of the issue Reine was considering and spoke first.

“Additionally, if the target is Lord Reine, do any of you have any items that could enhance defensive power?”

“Reducing the enemy’s movement speed?” Trevo looked thoughtful and soon said, “I don’t have such witchcraft tools, but I do have paralysis poison that I apply to arrowheads, used against large sea beasts.”

“Would you like to prepare some, Lord Reine? It’s very effective. A hit from an arrow and it only takes a few seconds to knock down a cow. A large sea beast would require several more arrows.”

Meanwhile, the twin-tailed young girl hesitantly said, “I’ve used witchcraft tools that increase defensive power before, so… could a substitute doll work?”

…

—————–

Nighttime.

On a hidden beach in Fishing Port Town.

Amidst the crevices of several towering rocks, a bonfire burned.

Accompanied by the “crackling” sound of wood splintering, the sky filled with the flapping of wings as a black raven descended, settling on the shoulder of the robed woman, Zenina.

Zenina spoke respectfully, “My lord, Lord Nehru has finally replied. Though reluctant, he has agreed to your request for two chests of shadow steel ingots.”

“Zenina, since that’s the case, let’s take a trip there!” Wexman slowly stood up, smiling as he looked towards the night sky covered in dark clouds, revealing only a faint glimmer of starlight.

“At your command, my lord!”

Zenina followed half a step behind Wexman.

As the two gradually left the range of the bonfire, their shadows lengthened. Then, their figures completely vanished, as if they had melted into the darkness…
