Chapter 476: Chapter 220: The First Metal Witchcraft (Two-in-One Mega Chapter)

The next morning dawned.

Lord Rein had already started practicing the newly learned Blood Fury Archery with Cornett Leyman in the training room early in the morning.

At this time, the great bow he held in his hands was the one from “Bloody Shooter” Phil Kraz, about 1.6 meters in length and made entirely of metal. Judging from the material, it was crafted from a rare ore known as magic steel ingots.

Rein had once seen this type of material during his visit to the blacksmith’s shop inside Habsburg Castle, so he quickly recognized it as a special metal with very good toughness.

In some respects, it was an excellent material for the bow body, but it required a very high level of strength from the archer.

It’s known that the elasticity of a bow mostly comes from the bow body, not the bowstring.

Bows used by ordinary people are usually made from woods like oak or cypress, whose strong fiber construction determines the bow’s elasticity and stability. However, for formal knights, the power generated from these ordinary oak or cypress bows is somewhat inadequate.

This becomes abundantly clear when considering senior knights and Peak Knights.

Thus, the vast majority of senior knights use metal bows crafted from special ores. As long as one has sufficient physical strength, issues like the weight and pull of the metal bow are not a problem.

Moreover, if viewed from another perspective, they are actually advantages, and a metal bow can also serve as a defensive weapon during sudden close combat.

However, for Rein, this metal bow was just passable, as his physical strength as a Great Knight was considerably stronger than that of “Bloody Shooter” Phil Kraz.

But currently, Rein’s mastery of Blood Fury Archery wasn’t very high, albeit sufficient for him to use it.

Just last night, Rein had sent out two letters, one of which was addressed to Lady Baroness Crawley.

In the letter, Rein asked her to help procure some magic steel ingots. He planned to add this material to the great bow, recasting it to suit his level of strength after he returned to Meister County in some time.

As for the bowstring, he had also found a better substitute— a back tendon from the body of a Spineback Sea Snake, slightly elastic and extremely tough, capable of withstanding more pull force than the current bowstring of this bow.

The other letter was written to Count Habs, stating that the situation in Fishing Port Town had stabilized with the threats from the Sea God Sect and pirates eliminated, and expressing his hope for permission to resign. In the letter, Rein did not go back on his word and recommended the Reiman brothers as successors.

Lastly, Rein also mentioned in the letter that he would soon participate in the “Sword Bearer” organization’s assessment.

Although the empire would officially inform Count Habs soon, Rein thought it was best to mention it proactively.

Since the Reiman brothers were proficient in sword and shield combat skills, they provided excellent companions for archery practice. Thus, Rein had arranged for Cornett Leyman, the younger brother, to accompany him for archery practice that morning.

As for the older brother, Cobert Leyman, he was responsible for attending to Fishing Port Town’s administrative affairs and couldn’t get away.

With the Sea God Sect and most of the pirates in Meister County’s seas largely eliminated, Fishing Port Town had gradually started to resume fishing, merchant shipping, and so forth, resulting in an increase in administrative duties.

Since Rein was not interested in these matters, he had let the relatively calm Cobert Leyman handle these tasks.

In the meantime, he continued to practice the newly acquired Blood Fury Archery under Cornett’s tutelage, although it was tough on Cornett.

According to the training content, if Cornett managed to reach within ten meters of Rein in less than five arrows, it would be considered Cornett’s victory; otherwise, Rein would have achieved his training goal.

Cornett held a huge metal tower shield in both hands and rapidly dodged left and right in front of Rein while steadily advancing toward him.

Rein then pulled his silvery-gray metal great bow, and a training arrow shot towards Cornett like lightning.

Suddenly, Cornett, unable to dodge in time, tensed his muscles, with the veins in his hands and forearms that grasped the tower shield bulging and his muscles knotted!

“Clang!”

The clash of metal echoed as the impact of the blunt training arrow made Cornett, holding the tower shield, stop his forward momentum, and his pace unavoidably slowed.

This gave Rein the opportunity to swiftly shoot another arrow at Cornett.

The training arrows featured metal heads but were not sharp, being blunt-tipped instead, with shafts made of birch wood. Although not heavy, given Rein’s imposing strength as a Great Knight, each arrow he casually shot made it quite strenuous for Cornett to block with his tower shield.

…

Just fifteen minutes later, Cornett was drenched in sweat, looking as though he had been dragged out of water.

It wasn’t that Rein was unwilling to take it easy, but doing so would mean he’d earn very little experience points for his Blood Fury Archery Skill, so Cornett had to endure the hardship.

However, despite the difficulty, Cornett’s eyes gleamed brightly.

For him, being called by Lord Rein, a Great Knight, for practice was not only an honor but also a rare opportunity.

If only he and his brother could have had such ‘special training’ from Lord Rein before they encountered the “Bloody Shooter,” they would not have been wounded under the arrows of the “Bloody Shooter.”
