Wizard: Scamming a Demon God

Chapter 271: Chapter 206: There Are Still Masters?

So, besides the Promoters, there was only one powerful Caster left to preside over the name-inscribing ceremony...

Isaac already had a good guess as to that person’s identity, so he stopped observing the names around him and walked in the direction of the aura. Soon, he saw a familiar woman...

Or rather, a familiar... magnificence!

”Long... time... no... see... I never thought... that this era... would still produce... a Mad Witch... as crazy as you...”

Hearing this familiar tone, Isaac smiled faintly and replied, ”I also didn’t expect to meet you here, esteemed senior Witch.”

As he spoke, Isaac bowed respectfully. It was both a sign of respect for a senior and an expression of gratitude for her past help—even though the rules of the promotion ceremony were what they were, and he also had his Golden Finger to ensure a margin for error.

’But there’s no harm in lowering my head at a time like this. Isn’t it a good thing to make a good impression on a powerful figure?’

Isaac was not the pedantic or arrogant type.

Yes, the woman before him, who exuded an aura of ripe maturity, was precisely the Great Witch Isaac had encountered multiple times during his promotion ceremony using Witch elements.

”Alright... no need... for pleasantries... Inscribe your name...” The Great Witch smiled faintly, and with a gentle point of her slender, pale finger, a document resembling white jade appeared before Isaac.

Isaac didn’t hesitate. Magic Power materialized at his fingertip, which floated gently over the document, and his name was written out. However, it wasn’t complete—the last character was still missing.

”Hm?” The Great Witch was taken aback, looking at Isaac with great interest. ”What are you planning to do?”

”Senior, I’d like to know if I can look up the name of a Mad Witch here?” Isaac asked with a smile.

”That won’t... do... This is... a sacred place... for Casters... Settle your... grudges... outside...” the Great Witch said. Her tone was still slow and gentle, yet it brooked no argument.

Isaac shrugged helplessly. He had expected this outcome and had only been trying his luck. So, after being rejected, Isaac wrote the final character, completing the name-inscribing ceremony.

In that instant, Isaac felt as if his body had grown heavier, and his comprehension of Magic Power and the laws of magic became much clearer.

At this moment, Isaac understood that he needed to properly consolidate his foundation at Tier Three. He couldn’t continue to advance his realm so rapidly, and at the same time, he had to pause his dealings with the Outer Gods.

His overly rapid increase in strength and frequent dealings with the Outer Gods had caused his connection to the world to grow faint. If this continued, he would sooner or later be rejected by the Real World, just like those Outer Gods...

And when that happened, having lost the protection of the Real World, he would have to face the very Outer Gods he had once slaughtered!

So, Isaac now had two paths before him. One was to double down on plundering the power of the Outer Gods, striving to grow to a point where he could ignore all Gods before being rejected by the Real World!

But this path was extremely perilous!

This peril didn’t stem from the danger of the rituals, but from the possibility that his speed of plundering might not outpace the Real World’s speed of rejecting him!

So, while it seemed he had two choices, in reality, he only had one: to stop, consolidate his foundation, and increase his ”weight” in the Real World.

Fortunately, his Tier Three strength, combined with his background in the Flesh Sect, was enough for him to lie low in the Real World and consolidate his power.

Therefore, after feeling his own ”weight” increase, Isaac prepared to leave. He bowed to the Great Witch seated high upon her throne, then turned and departed.

But just as Isaac turned, the Great Witch’s gentle and mellow voice reached his ears.

”There was one called Bretholman... oh, no, He should be called the Master of the Illusory Starry Sky now. Before He achieved godhood, He was an Astrologer.”

”Hm?” Isaac, having stepped out of the Magic Vortex and returned to the highest floor of his Mage Tower, froze for a moment. Then, with a smile, he bowed again in the direction where the Magic Vortex had dissipated. He didn’t know if the senior Great Witch was in that direction, but ’it’s never wrong to be polite.’

’The Master of the Illusory Starry Sky?’ A glint appeared in Isaac’s eyes. He seemed to have heard that name before. He was a Wizard from a very long time ago. Back then, the Path of the Wizard had not yet progressed so far, and for the Wizards of that era, Becoming a God was their greatest pursuit.

Among the current True Gods, some were formerly Wizards. However, this proportion was shrinking, because as the Path of the Wizard developed, the potential of the Path of Wizardry had far surpassed that of the Path of Divinity. Therefore, these Wizards who had once become True Gods were now trying to find ways to leave the Path of Divinity and return to the Path of Wizardry.

And there had already been many successful cases.

Of course, this definitely did not include the Master of the Illusory Starry Sky. Even in that era, He was a failure; otherwise, He wouldn’t be an Evil God, but a True God.

It was said that He was later robbed by numerous Mad Witches and had now fallen to a state where no Mad Witch would even give Him a second glance...

That’s right. Even in this era where most transactions were legitimate, very few Mad Witches were interested in His paltry offerings. If even the ”proper” Mad Witches looked down on Him, there was even less reason for an ”improper” Mad Witch like Isaac to care.

Furthermore, the Astrology school had always been one of the most obscure of the Wizard Schools, so Isaac was even less interested. Back then, he had only glanced at the name and moved on, not bothering to commit it to memory.

’But now, it seems I need to go back and do some proper research on him.’

’Of course, there’s no rush. Now that my list of enemies has grown, I’m in no hurry to deal with that guy. Besides, having just been promoted to High-level Mage, I still have plenty of room for improvement. It won’t be too late to get my revenge after I’ve properly developed my strength.’

’As long as it’s not through dealing with Outer Gods, a simple increase in my strength won’t affect my ”weight” in the Real World. In fact, as I increase the amount of Authority I master through normal means, my ”weight” might even grow heavier!’

’Of course, before that, I can go to the Flesh Sect to register and update my current strength, then apply for ”Optimization Attempts for Casting Techniques and Privileges.”’

’After all, moving against Outer Gods affects my ”weight” in the Real World, but moving against True Gods doesn’t!’

’Although They are also subject to some restrictions in the Real World, They still inherently belong to this world. Therefore, plundering Their power won’t lead to rejection by the Real World!’

’This is a principle those cowards from the Mad Witch Association will never understand!’

...

「At the Flesh Sect’s research project application window.」

The staff member watched the Mad Witch who had returned to apply for that heretical project, and the corner of his mouth twitched. ’To be honest, I really want to reject this guy’s insane project outright, just like before!’

’Going after Outer Gods is no longer enough to satisfy him. Has this lunatic actually extended his Demon Claws toward the True Gods now?’

’Are we sure this won’t provoke the wrath of the Deities?’

Although the Flesh Sect was powerful and feared no Deity, the staff member was well aware that he was just a lowly Tier Two Mage. To Wizards outside, he might be considered a genius, but within the Sect, he was just a weakling who had to work for the organization to earn magic stones. In a confrontation between such behemoths, the weak like him would absolutely be the first to die.

’So, if I had a choice, I really wouldn’t want to approve this guy’s application...’

But unfortunately, times had changed. Isaac was now a High-level Mage, and the research project he was applying for was no longer something the staff member could decide on. According to the rules, all research projects proposed by High-level Mages had to be reported to the Sect’s temporary committee and reviewed by available High-level Mages or those of greater power.

So, no matter how much he disliked the project, he could only force a stiff smile and send Isaac’s proposal up for review through a small Teleportation Array.

A moment later, the approval for Isaac’s research project application came down. After all, they were all High Level Wizards, so their information processing speed was quite fast. Moreover, Wizards were accustomed to working efficiently.

As Isaac had expected, the review was approved without a hitch.

Taking the application from the stiff-faced staff member, Isaac gave a faint smile, then turned and walked away, looking over the document as he went.

However, after taking just two steps, Isaac stopped in his tracks, staring at the application in surprise. On the document, besides the signature of approval, there were actually several recommended Wizards listed for him to invite!

’A proper Wizard Organization like the Flesh Sect actually has people like this?’

’How did I not know that before?’
