Wizard: Scamming a Demon God

Chapter 210: Chapter 166: Privilege Magic

After the simple strategy meeting concluded, everyone immediately set out to prepare for their respective tasks.

On the way to the garrison outside the city, Remington stared down at the Token in his hand, lost in thought.

”Heh.” Philo, who was beside him, smiled after pulling his gaze away from the common folk outside the carriage window. ”Curious, are you? About why Isaac would hand over an army tens of thousands strong to you.”

Remington was silent for a moment before nodding. He truly couldn’t understand it. He had tried to betray Isaac more than once, though he had failed every time...

”Don’t overthink it. It’s not that he trusts you, nor does he care about some bond of brotherhood. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been so quick to kill you back then.” Philo watched Remington, the corners of his lips turning up slightly. ”He gave you the army simply out of his own confidence.”

”Confidence...”

”That’s right. Hard to understand, isn’t it? Oh, right, I almost forgot. You were just resurrected, so you don’t have a direct grasp of his current situation. Let me put it this way: as he is now, even without using his Servant Demon, killing you would be effortless. So it’s not that he trusts you. He simply doesn’t care.”

’Doesn’t care... Ignored...’ Remington murmured, his grip on the Token tightening. The armor that formed his body began to emit a faint, ethereal glow.

Seeing this, the smile on Philo’s lips grew even more delighted. ’So I can’t out-scheme Isaac... but I can certainly out-scheme you.’

’Things are getting more and more interesting... my dear uncle.’

...

”Are we not doing anything right now?”

In the castle garden, Lorna glanced from Isaac, who was tending to the flowers, to Angel, who was staring down and counting ants, and asked in confusion.

”There’s no need,” Isaac said with a smile. ”There’s no such thing as an Absolute Defense in this world, and even if there were, it’s not something you or I could set up. So, rather than being caught off guard, it’s better to lie in wait and counter their every move by standing still.”

”But what if we don’t spot the enemy? Shouldn’t we at least set up some watchposts to monitor the area?”

”Don’t worry about that. I already set them up a couple of days ago. We’ll definitely spot the enemy.”

Lorna was completely baffled. ’Didn’t he just say there’s no such thing as an Absolute Defense? Why is he so confident now?’ ”What if they use some kind of stealth Magic that our surveillance can’t detect? Shouldn’t we be more on guard?”

Isaac glanced at Angel before turning back to Lorna. ”Relax. We’ll definitely spot the enemy. That’s much simpler than creating an Absolute Defense.”

”Sigh,” Angel sighed. ”You don’t have to be so cryptic. While a Witch’s abilities are linked to the Mysterious, they aren’t weakened by revealing information. I can modify the past to a certain extent. Making it impossible for the enemy to find or enter this place is beyond my power, but letting ’us’ who are in the ’past’ know where the enemy is... that’s quite simple.”

”???” Hearing this, Lorna stared at Angel, completely dumbfounded.

Angel’s brow furrowed slightly. ’Seriously, she doesn’t get it? Does hanging around Isaac stop your brain from working?’

”You don’t understand?”

”No... I mean, I understood what you said... but why are your powers so strong?! We’re both Witches!” Lorna’s eyes widened in disbelief.

”Hahaha~~”

Angel was left speechless but replied anyway, ”They’re both Legendary Mages, but Isaac is still stronger than Philo!”

”...Oh, that’s true. Never mind then.” Lorna blinked, quickly accepting this unfair reality.

”You’re certainly easy-going,” Isaac chimed in with a grin.

”Because the Dragon Mother told me that a Dragon shouldn’t sweat the small stuff.”

”That may be true, but you’re not a Dragon.”

”But it makes me happy!” Lorna said, planting her hands on her hips as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

”...Fair point.”

Watching this unfold, Angel’s brow furrowed. She turned and walked out of the garden, unable to stand the sight.

’A madman, actually laughing and joking around like a normal person...’

’It’s just too abnormal!’

Lorna watched Angel’s retreating figure, blinked, and asked curiously, ”Did we say something wrong?”

”Don’t worry about it. She’s crazy, so anything she does is normal for her,” Isaac said with a nonchalant shrug.

”Oh, I see.”

...

The peaceful days did not last long. Soon, Isaac and the others would face their first wave of enemies—and they were powerful ones.

In a dugout two thousand meters from Roton Fortress, two men and a woman stared with grave expressions at the map before them. It was, unmistakably, a map of Roton Fortress’s defenses.

Although the map was outdated, the fortress’s basic structure wouldn’t have changed in such a short time, so it was still of some use.

The three of them wore platinum-colored armor embroidered with holy symbols, and they radiated an air of righteousness.

The leader was a burly man with a Greatsword on his back. He looked at the map of the city’s defenses and said with a grim expression, ”I have a plan. We charge straight in. I’ll handle Mad Witch Isaac and his minions while you two destroy the Evil God Ceremony!”

”...” The two beside him exchanged a speechless glance. The blond youth said, ”First of all, that’s not a plan. Second, forget Isaac and his minions; you can’t even handle Mad Witch Isaac by yourself. And finally, they are not ’his minions.’ You can’t just say things like that. One of them is a newly titled Witch from the Witch Country, and the other is the Eldest Princess of the Terra Empire.”

”That’s right, Captain. We understand your determination to eradicate evil, but the three of us are no match for them. Our mission is just to destroy the Evil God Ceremony.”
