Wizard: Scamming a Demon God

Chapter 201: Chapter 159: Witch and Mad Witch

The group walked into the fortress in silence, only to discover they had still underestimated just how absurd this kingdom was...

A purely military fortress, during wartime, actually had civilians living inside!

Although, these people in their ragged clothes—sallow, emaciated, and with dull, lifeless eyes—were not living like human beings...

The pot-bellied commander at the front led the way, his face beaming. The arrival of Isaac and his group meant they could finally pull out. This war had nothing to do with them.

They might be Soldiers of the Itra Kingdom, but they were only here to make a quick buck and enjoy life. Fight a war?

’This pittance is hardly enough for that!’

However, in his elation, he failed to notice the increasingly grim expressions on the faces of the four people behind him.

To be honest, none of Isaac’s group—two Witches and two Mad Witches—were considered good people by the world. In reality, however, their moral compass was set quite high.

At the very least, the scenes before them filled their hearts with fury!

”Isaac...” In the face of such sights, even the lively Lorna grew subdued, her heart filled with anger. Though she knew she shouldn’t cause Isaac any trouble, she couldn’t stop herself from tugging on the corner of his sleeve.

’She wanted to kill someone.’

”Not yet.” Isaac patted Lorna’s shoulder. He knew what she was thinking, but now was not the time.

Isaac glanced at Philo’s grim face. ’At least, not right now.’

The ragged, emaciated people on the roadside had no reaction to the arrival of Isaac’s group. They remained seated, their gazes vacant, as if not a single spark of hope for life could be seen in their eyes...

”COO~” Aein, who had been roaming through dreams absorbing Wish Power, emerged from the Void. It perched on Isaac’s shoulder, looking at the surrounding people with a sorrowful expression.

Although a Fairy Elf has a rather abstract appearance, they are fundamentally very kind creatures, a fact evident from their love of granting human wishes.

Even during the cooldown period for their Prayer Technique, they mostly remained active in the dream world, partly to absorb Wish Power and partly in the hope of bringing people sweet dreams.

’If I can’t grant your wish in reality, can’t I at least let you relax in a dream?’

This time, however, Aein could do nothing. The people here, the ones it wanted to help, had completely lost their desire to live. Their dreams had utterly withered, leaving behind an endless expanse in the dream world of...

Gray...

”COO~”

”Yes, I know.” Isaac stroked Aein’s head. Wisps of Magic Power overflowed from his body and gradually began to spread, beginning their Erosion of the entire fortress.

Angel and Philo, standing to the side, noticed Isaac’s actions. Neither of them moved to stop him. The former glanced at Isaac, seemingly breathing a sigh of relief, while the latter remained silent as always, showing no hint of emotional fluctuation.

Before long, the commander led the four of them to the most lavishly decorated castle in the fortress.

It was clear the commander and his men were well-practiced in handling such matters. The castle contained only standard decorations common among the Nobility, with none of the usual messy preparations like banquets, women, or men. Even the food consisted only of some relatively high-quality ingredients.

It seemed plain, as if they didn’t know how to properly host their guests.

But in reality, this was the correct approach.

Because at this time of year, the nobles who came to the Itra Kingdom were from all corners of the world, with vast differences in tastes and habits. Some extremely particular nobles might not object to the provisions, but they might object to your status!

After all, in the eyes of some nobles, even the person giving them money needed to have a certain status!

Therefore, this standard treatment for the Nobility was the most appropriate. ’If you don’t know what you’re doing, don’t try to get fancy.’

Unfortunately for them, they were unaware that they had already committed the greatest taboo...

Entering the castle’s main hall, Philo waved her hand, dismissing the commander and everyone else inside. Then, with graceful steps, she walked to the silver chair in the main hall and sat down. Her beautiful eyes turned to Isaac, who stood in silence, gazing mutely out the window.

”You want to kill them?” Philo said lightly. ”That’s fine. My kingdom has no need for such scum, either.”

”Kill them?” Isaac turned to look at Philo, confused. ”Why? If I kill them, where am I supposed to find the materials to set up the basic ritual?”

”...You want to sacrifice them to an Evil God?” Philo fell silent for a moment, staring at Isaac in shock.

Sacrificing real humans and sacrificing those soulless Artificial Humans were two completely different Concepts!

The former was an utterly heretical path!

The kind of heresy that the True God Church would send a crusade to exterminate if they found out!

”Are you staying?”

”No... I just hope you can make a calm judgment. Killing them and using them as sacrifices are not the same thing.”

”Heh~” Isaac chuckled. ”As long as you have no objections.”

Seeing that Isaac had paid her warning no mind, Philo’s mouth twitched. What objection could she possibly have? First, she wasn’t the one sacrificing humans. Second, she was the Eldest Princess of the Terra Empire; even if a real sacrifice took place, nothing would happen to her.

At worst, it would just mean tossing a few scapegoats to the True God Church to appease them. But Isaac’s nonchalant attitude once again made her worry whether cooperating with him was truly the right decision...

So, was Isaac truly nonchalant?

Not at all.

The True God Church’s influence in this world was quite vast. Aside from the True God who reigned on high, they also possessed two Extraordinary paths—the Temple Knights and the Divine Mages—which were, to a certain extent, comparable to Knights and Wizards!

Although their upper limits were not as high as the latter, they were more than enough to deal with mortals. As for those above mortals...

The Church’s boss was a God.

So, unless it was absolutely necessary, Isaac would not provoke the Church.

So would he give up the sacrifice?

He would not. This sort of thing was indeed taboo, so he just had to do it secretly. As long as it was properly concealed, even if he used Time Magic, they would never be able to trace any of his subtle moves back to him!

The Isaac of today had that much confidence!

Although that hadn’t been his original intention when he started researching that stuff.

”How many living sacrifices do you need?”

”What is it?” Hearing this, Isaac looked curiously at Angel, who had asked the question. His gaze fell upon the gold and purple Magic Book in her hands, and his eyes instantly narrowed!

On it, he sensed the aura of a Demon!

And a High-Position Demon at that!

”I’ve gotten a little angry, and I want to vent. Don’t worry, I won’t let them die a simple death,” Angel said, a radiant smile appearing on her face.

”...Whatever. I don’t have any specific requirements.”

Angel raised an eyebrow at his words. It seemed she had misunderstood him earlier. Her favorable impression of Isaac grew a little.

”*A’thaz’goral*, go. Bring back their time.” Under the gazes of the others, Angel opened the Magic Book in her hands, recited a difficult-to-pronounce name in the Demonic tongue, and issued her command.

Immediately after, a Magic Array formed from gold and purple Magic Power unfolded before Angel. A phantom flashed by, and something seemed to crawl out from within!

Isaac’s expression turned grave as he looked at Angel. That thing... He recognized it!

The Time Demon·Astaros!
