When She Stops Being Dramatic

Chapter 450: Chapter 160: The 70s’ Green Tea Educated Youth (47)

The General Hospital’s reputation also soared thanks to Sisheng Street. Its already excellent name was elevated to new heights, which was most evident in a massive surge in patient numbers.

The staff members were so busy they were run off their feet, without a moment to slack off all day. By quitting time, they felt utterly exhausted, but deep down, they felt an incredible sense of fulfillment.

Seeing patients’ pain ease and the gratitude on their families’ faces, they felt a true sense of purpose. They were dedicated to their work, knowing they were contributing to the hospital’s growth.

However, the workload was intense. The hospital’s capacity was limited by its space, equipment, and staffing, which meant many patients couldn’t receive timely treatment. Every ward was overflowing, beds lined the hallways in long rows, and even the chairs were filled with patients and family members on IV drips.

Chi Yun’er came looking for Mr. Chi to discuss something.

Jiang Yihua had now been transferred to the Capital City. However, many of the Kyoto Agricultural Research Institute’s research topics and experimental projects required travel to the various regions that had received distributions of free, high-quality seeds.

The farm where he used to work was one of those locations. Now, as progress reports gradually came in from various places, the institute’s researchers had to visit the sites that were meeting expectations to conduct field studies.

A round trip would take at least half a month, if not a full one. So, Chi Yun’er decided to move back home for a while, which would make her commute to work more convenient.

’And I’m planning to apply for a job transfer as soon as Jiang Yihua gets back!’

Ever since the recruitment drive began, Chi Yun’er had hardly set foot in the hospital’s outpatient or inpatient departments. The moment she entered, the sight of people packed shoulder-to-shoulder made her scalp tingle.

She had to call out ”excuse me” the entire way just to painstakingly make it to her father’s office.

Only one intern was manning the office; the others had all been sent out to help. Even he was buried in organizing reports on typical cases. He looked up, smiled at her, and said, ”Director Chi, are you looking for the Vice President? He went to the inpatient department. Would you like to wait for him?”

Chi Yun’er smiled and nodded, telling him to get back to his work. She poured herself a glass of water and drank it while she waited.

By the time she had toured the entire outpatient department, Old Chi still hadn’t come back.

However, she ran into one of Old Chi’s students and casually struck up a conversation.

”The hospital seems really busy lately, doesn’t it?”

The young man gulped down some water and nodded vigorously. ”Yun’er, ’busy’ doesn’t even begin to cover it. It’s been insanely busy!”

”Ever since Sisheng Street opened, a lot of people who get a headache or a fever, who might have gone to another hospital before, all swing by our hospital now. And they make a trip of it, wandering around the neighborhood too.”

”But on the bright side, with so many more patients, we’re able to identify more typical cases to focus our treatment on. It lets us be more comprehensive in our considerations, so the treatment outcomes have actually been pretty good.”

”Overall, it has its pros and cons, but the pros definitely outweigh the cons. The only problem is... our hospital is just too small.”

Chi Yun’er nodded, then went to ask around in the other departments.

Finally, more than half an hour past lunchtime, she managed to catch the Dean in his office.

”Well now, a rare guest,” the old Dean said when he saw her, smiling as he ushered her in. ”Yun’er, you never come to see me unless you have something important to discuss. So, out with it. What’s your big idea this time?”

He was swamped with work, and since the two of them were on familiar terms, he skipped the pleasantries and got straight to the point.

Chi Yun’er gazed at the stream of people outside the window and smiled. ”I was just thinking... ’sharpening the axe doesn’t delay chopping the wood.’ Our hospital needs to expand again, and we should be aiming to build to a world-class standard!”

Her words were enough to jolt the old Dean’s groggy mind wide awake, clearing the fog from a long and busy morning.

He wanted to ask, ’Isn’t this a bit too ambitious?’

However, Sisheng Street had been fully operational for about half a month now, and the hospital had more than enough money to build a new building.

Drawing on his experience, he held his tongue, allowing Chi Yun’er to continue.

”Our hospital was converted from a military base. The grounds originally included a small training field. That land has since been divided, with half allocated for staff family housing and the other half for the hospital itself.”

”But all the buildings are low-rise and scattered about haphazardly. The layout is unplanned, messy, and unattractive, not to mention a terrible waste of land. You could say that our medical expertise is among the best in the nation, but our physical environment—both inside and out—simply doesn’t measure up.”

”A clean, bright environment for working and healing has a significant impact on both our medical staff and our patients.”

”Therefore, I propose we commission professors from Imperial University’s architecture department to completely redesign our hospital and the staff housing area!”

”This time, let’s get it all done in one fell swoop. We can start by bringing our physical infrastructure up to world-class standards...”
