When She Stops Being Dramatic

Chapter 436: Chapter 156: The Green Tea Female Supporting Character in a Period Novel (43)

’Even if they can’t achieve it, can’t a person daydream a little to enrich their spiritual life?’

Chi Yun’er stood on the stage with a light smile. The graceful, slender young woman seemed to dispel the sweltering heat in the air, casting a cool spell that settled the crowd’s restless hearts.

”To all the intellectual youths who have gone to the countryside to contribute to the organization, I’m very happy to be able to stand here and speak a few words from the heart with you.”

”I know that every one of us is noble, able to shed our blood and lay down our lives for the organization in its time of crisis without a moment’s hesitation. But we also have to face reality and deeply feel the wide, deep chasm between our ideals and the truth.”

”We went to the countryside to support its development because we wanted to use what we’ve learned, not just rely on brute force to do things that waste our time and talent. However, people have to eat, and in different eras, the value of one’s contributions also differs.”

”Now, the organization is developing better and better, and our opportunities will also increase. Many places are starting to need an influx of talented people. Our spring is about to begin!”

”And at this moment, we don’t need to enviously watch our brothers and sisters who stayed behind with their parents. For the rest of your lives, you will absolutely be thankful for the person you are right now.”

”The experience in the countryside is forging us, becoming a treasure that no one can take away...”

”You must know that your future selves will surely thank your present, hardworking selves.”

Chi Yun’er’s words made many people cover their faces and start to cry.

Everyone had told them they had to go to the countryside. ’If others can go, why can’t you?’

’Not going to the countryside means your thinking isn’t progressive enough!’

The rural villagers looked at them with disdain in their eyes, wondering what use their education was. ’Don’t they still have to work in the fields?’

Even they themselves had begun to doubt their own worth. ’It’s wrong to be unable to endure hardship.’ Coupled with the hopeless prospect of returning to the city, they endured day by day, the vibrant aura of their youth worn away until nothing was left. They were as lifeless as old men on their deathbeds.

Chi Yun’er’s words affirmed their sacrifices and broke open the dam of their stagnant thoughts, allowing a glimmer of light to cautiously peek through once more.

They were crying tears of relief, of catharsis, and even more, they were laughing with joy!

’That’s right, the country is developing and progressing. How long have we been in the countryside? The cities have already changed so much. The difficult years are over, and things will only get better from now on.’

’We’re still young. We can’t write off the world so soon!’

Chi Yun’er’s tone then shifted, and she said with a smile, ”I imagine that when all of you arrived here and saw so many competitors, the brave and high-spirited attitude you had before you came collapsed in an instant, didn’t it?”

The intellectual youths no longer felt any distance from her. Plus, she was about the same age as them, and she spoke in a casual and gentle manner.

They all nodded and chimed in, ”Yes, Comrade Chi! If I’d known so many comrades were participating in the recruitment, I wouldn’t have come to contribute to the railway project. I would have been better off waiting until I’d really mastered the books and tried for the next opportunity...”

”Comrade Chi, my scores are just average, I barely passed the cutoff. I’m definitely going to be eliminated. It took a lot of courage for me to come, and then my family persuaded me, so I rushed over here on a whim after taking leave. Sigh, I guess I’ll just treat it as a day trip to the Capital City...”

As everyone chimed in, their moods had improved considerably.

’Anyway, I won’t be the only one who fails. There will be plenty of company. It’s not embarrassing. At worst, we’ll just prepare more thoroughly next time.’

Only then did the hospital leaders realize where they had gone wrong.

Their focus had been entirely on the individual benefits, thinking that would be what interested everyone the most and would motivate the young people to study hard for the exam.

But they had overlooked the most obvious problem.

It seemed, appeared, was possible, and perhaps likely that the crowd didn’t know the total number of people being hired this time!

Chi Yun’er raised a hand, and the crowd below immediately fell silent, looking at her with eager anticipation.

She said with a light laugh, ”Actually, you don’t need to be like this at all. Did you not know that we are planning to hire over two hundred and thirty full-time employees in one go?”

”There are even over fifty spots for temporary workers, and they also handle the residency registration and city-return procedures. Added together, that’s about three hundred people!”

”There are only just over nine hundred of you. That’s equivalent to one person being accepted for every three who apply. Where else are you going to find odds like that?”

This single sentence was no less than a bomb, instantly plunging the entire field into a dead silence that lasted for nearly half an hour.

The crowd was having a hard time digesting this news.

’Three hundred employees. What kind of concept was that?’

’It was no less than staffing an entire new factory!’

Their minds slowly turned, trying to comprehend. Out of more than nine hundred people taking the exam, around three hundred comrades would be accepted. ’Why, back in school,’ they thought, ’with an acceptance rate like that, we would have ranked pretty well in a city-wide joint exam among thousands of students.’
