When She Stops Being Dramatic

Chapter 409: Chapter 148: The Green Tea Side Character in a Period Novel (35)

On the second day after the storefront opened, the long line of customers snaked around the block. Chi Yun’er couldn’t get away, so she asked a nurse to explain the situation to Mrs. Jiang.

Mrs. Jiang had originally called Father and Mother Fang to come over first thing in the morning. But since her real prospective daughter-in-law was too busy, it created the perfect opportunity to make the Fang family feel awkward. She deliberately waited for them to arrive before finding a young nurse to give them a casual, dismissive reception, ensuring they wouldn’t run into Fang Yuying beforehand.

Father and Mother Fang were thrilled. ’The Jiang Family must have agreed to our children’s relationship,’ they reasoned. ’Why else would they have called us for a family meeting?’

They tried hard to contain their excitement and joy, their hands trembling slightly as they periodically tried to fish for information from the young nurse.

”What’s your last name, miss?”

”Kyoto General Hospital is certainly a special place. It’s so busy with people coming and going. As the head nurse, Mrs. Jiang must be busy all day, right?”

”And Yihua’s father, Mr. Jiang... I hear he’s a chief physician here. In any other hospital, a position like that would be equivalent to the director!”

Father and Mother Fang said they worked at a district hospital, but to be precise, it was in a small town. In their eyes, Kyoto General Hospital was the absolute pinnacle of the medical field!

Father Fang managed to keep a straight face and stop himself from chattering away.

But Mother Fang couldn’t hold back. Like a curious child, she was eager to hear the young nurse praise the impressive Jiang couple. ’These are our future in-laws, after all!’

She was already starting to calculate in her head how much would be an appropriate bride price.

’Father Jiang and Mrs. Jiang were front-line workers. Their jobs were grueling and required exceptional skill and extensive experience, so their salaries were higher than the support staff’s.’

’Conservatively, the two of them must make at least 150 or 160 a month, right?’

’Even with both their sons sent down to the countryside as educated youth, and sending each of them twenty, and with a young daughter still at home, the old couple’s financial burden wasn’t heavy. They could probably save seventy or eighty a month.’

’And a year is...’

’They’ve been working for over twenty years... Oh my god!’ Thinking of that astronomical sum, Mother Fang began to tremble with excitement.

’Fang Yuying = The Jiang Family’s eldest daughter-in-law = The future matriarch of the Jiang Family = The Jiang Family’s money is all for the Fang family!’

The nurse secretly rolled her eyes and said coolly, ”It’s busy in the morning. Patients all tend to show up at once. Our head nurse is completely tied up.”

”If you want to wait, you can keep drinking your tea. If you have something urgent, schedule for another day.”

”We’re not busy, not busy at all,” Mother Fang said quickly. ”We took time off work to be here. Mrs. Jiang made a special call to us. Even if we had something incredibly important, we’d have to rush over.”

”This is a major event in our children’s lives. As parents, we have to be involved.”

The young nurse nodded. ”Fine. Then you can just wait. If you’re thirsty, get some water yourselves.”

Father and Mother Fang agreed readily, not at all minding the young nurse’s attitude.

’They were all comrades in the same system, so who didn’t know the score? Not getting a cold shoulder was already a show of respect.’

’They’d heard everyone at Kyoto General Hospital had powerful connections. Never mind an official nurse—even a temporary worker might be the relative of some department head or the hospital director.’

This was the nurses’ office, and it was a hub of activity. People came and went constantly—to the inner room to prepare medications, look through patient files, grab tools, or change clothes. One after another, nurses scurried about, hurried along by the doctors.

But that didn’t stop their eyes and mouths from taking part in the gossip.

The young nurse was periodically called out by her colleagues for a few words. When she returned, she would also pretend to be casually curious and try to get more information out of Mother Fang.

And Mother Fang held nothing back, speaking so freely you’d think she was about to spill every last family secret.

The only catch was that her words were seen through such a thick, rose-tinted filter that you could only believe half of it.

The young nurse turned right around and passed on everything she’d heard.

The nurses were a vast, highly mobile, and incredibly efficient team of paparazzi, and the speed at which they spread gossip was astonishing.

Before noon, everyone already knew that Mother and Father Fang had been summoned by a single phone call from Mrs. Jiang.

Who didn’t know that Jiang Yihua was engaged to the recently famous Chi Yun’er?

Any gossip related to him naturally became a hot topic among the nurses. They had all been amazed by the story of the intern from the outpatient department who had proclaimed herself Jiang Yihua’s girlfriend.

See? The follow-up was here!

Was a woman who could become a head nurse like Mrs. Jiang any ordinary person?

If this were a school, she’d be the dean of discipline, no question!

Everyone excitedly awaited the coming showdown, and they all tacitly agreed not to breathe a word of it in front of Fang Yuying.
