When She Stops Being Dramatic

Chapter 447: Chapter 159: The Green Tea Female Supporting Character in a Period Novel (46)

Chi Yun’er had controlled the costs from the very beginning, giving directions for Zhao Jinming to implement.

They conducted comprehensive evaluations of quality, price, and style, among other factors, to find suitable long-term partners.

For the first month, they needed to track the profits precisely every day to understand the general correlation between foot traffic and profit.

This would facilitate future operations and, of course, was also tied to the payment of employee wages.

They were all veterans when it came to finances. The calculations were straightforward and simple—mostly just addition—so they worked very quickly.

Even so, it was almost eleven o’clock by the time they had calculated the final figures and double-checked them.

Seeing the enormous figure, the Dean and the others were all stunned.

With the substantial profits from their one department store as a baseline, they had thought that was the ceiling.

But after seeing these numbers, they felt like frogs in a well!

How could the foot traffic within the hospital possibly compare to the massive population of the entire Capital City? A tiny fraction of that number was more than enough to crush the department store’s business.

And these customers weren’t just spending their money at one or two shops!

Each shop’s profit was considerable. Take the food and beverage industry, for instance—an industry later generations would consider outrageously profitable and that many people would flock to. Its profits were typically half of its total revenue. But compared to the library, cinema, and video hall, that paled in comparison.

For clothes and fruit, Chi Yun’er sourced high-quality goods at low prices but sold them at the market rate. However, she would throw in small freebies with each purchase.

So, a five-figure profit was completely understandable!

”Wait, this... this is just for one day...” someone stammered in a daze.

”And it was a weekday, the day with the least foot traffic...”

”A lot of people don’t even know about this place yet. I bet when they go home, word will spread like wildfire...”

”I can’t imagine what the weekend will be like...”

At this thought, they all shivered. Even if the profit were halved, it would still be a solid five-figure sum. Halved again, it would still remain in the five-figure range.

In other words, once Sisheng Street’s reputation was established and profits began to stabilize, the daily income would likely never drop below five figures. At this rate, that was a solid six-figure income per month!

They felt dizzy just thinking about it. The hospital could purchase so many new things, and they could raise employee benefits by a huge margin...

”And this... this is after we hired three hundred educated youths and gave odd jobs to many of our employees’ families...”

It was so insane that the Dean couldn’t help but take a heart-relief pill to calm himself down.

At that moment, he felt that giving Chi Yun’er only four shops had been far from enough.

After the others had dispersed, he called over a few of his old colleagues. They huddled together to discuss something briefly before he called out to Chi Yun’er. ”Chi,” he said in a low voice, ”my dear girl, you just keep giving us one huge surprise after another.”

”The hospital isn’t some cold, unfeeling place that only takes and never gives back. We’ve all seen your contributions to the hospital and how you’ve taken care of the employees’ families.”

”I know you’ve set your heart on leaving the hospital and transferring to the agricultural station. As I’ve said before, I won’t stand in your way. However, we’re prepared to keep a position open for you here at the hospital.”

”We’re appointing you as the General Supervisor of Sisheng Street. Your pay will be based on the basic salary of a technical department head, plus a bonus of 0.5 percent of the profits!”

”Frankly, the profits you’ve generated are just too staggering; we don’t dare offer a higher percentage for the bonus. But I guarantee that as long as Sisheng Street exists and remains under the hospital’s ownership, you will continue to receive this compensation.”

”It’s a good thing this is the hospital’s side business, and that we have full operational and management rights.”

Otherwise, they really wouldn’t have known how to reward their greatest contributor.

A 0.5 percent cut could amount to a hundred yuan or so. And that was the bonus for a single day. Over a month, that would add up to a four-figure sum—more than an entire family of workers could save by scrimping and saving...

Chi Yun’er looked at the Dean in surprise, but she didn’t decline the offer. She smiled, thanked him, and promised that she would continue to work hard to manage Sisheng Street well.

The Dean smiled and nodded. It was a win-win arrangement.

’I’ve landed myself a high-paying job.’ Chi Yun’er was ecstatic.

’I’ve already planned out my easy-win life. A four-figure monthly income... I’ll save it all up first and wait for the economy to fully open up in two years.’

’First, I’ll buy land, then build my own storefronts. This way, I can wait for market trends to stabilize, accumulate capital, and then build a full-fledged shopping mall all in one go!’

In the eighties and nineties, and even into the new millennium, the profits in the electronics industry would be beyond anyone’s imagination. The industry was characterized by high profit margins, good cash flow, and rapid product turnover. Most importantly, the people of Xiahua cared deeply about face and loved keeping up with their neighbors. If another family had something, they had to have it too.
