Listening to the situation described by the Cave Dwellers, Gu Xi glanced at the number of Deceitful Grass planted nearby and estimated that the Deceitful Grass here might only be enough for the Harpies in the city to eat for one day.

This calculation only took into account the number of combat units.

If all the city’s residents are included, it seems the Deceitful Grass at hand is insufficient.

Can’t afford it.

The thought flashed in Gu Xi’s mind instantly.

Meanwhile, Gu Xi also realized that the planting area for Deceitful Grass was clearly squeezed out.

This Deceitful Grass will respond as soon as someone glares at it, jumping up to attack.

Only when planted in some out-of-the-way places, by the vision-impaired Cave Dwellers, can it be properly cultivated.

Because of this, suitable planting areas in the city are probably scarce.

Gu Xi estimated, the biggest possibility is having seven to ten pieces of farmland like this, ensuring daily harvesting of one area of Deceitful Grass to provide food for Harpies and Medusa.

In this way, seven days form a cycle, with extra ensuring no issues arise while guaranteeing some food storage.

Beyond this is unlikely, as other creatures will have their corresponding food.

However, with this setup, Dominic’s plan for large-scale army expansion may encounter some difficulties.

Gu Xi pondered.

”If we plant this Deceitful Grass outside the city, can you guarantee the yield?”

”Oh, lord, this Deceitful Grass isn’t suitable for outside conditions. When planted in underground spaces, we have to keep people monitoring it, fearing someone might glare at it.

The environment outside is much more chaotic.

There’s occasional passage of wild beasts; even without beasts, flying birds could affect the Deceitful Grass.

Our manpower is definitely insufficient.

Plus, Deceitful Grass isn’t particularly good as a crop; it’s more like a meat substitute, not real flesh.

Lord, if cutting time, please plant other fodder or crops.

Plant some fodder to raise pigs or cattle; these are the main food in the Underground City.”

”Then what do you eat?”

Gu Xi wasn’t surprised Underground City could raise pigs and cattle.

He guessed it was also the same for raising these two.

However, Gu Xi was a bit unclear if Minotaurs ate pork or beef, or drank milk.

”We plant some stuff like cassava, eat this; cassava vines can also feed pigs, very convenient.

Besides pork, Minotaurs also eat some cassava vines, adding some berries, otherwise, they’d lack strength.

Also, Nightmares in the Black Forest do not eat pure meat; two different Hydras can eat fish, but we don’t raise fish.”

Cave Dwellers are truly the Underground City’s hard labor.

In just a few words, they clarified most of the troop’s food.

”So what about non-combat units? What do they eat?”

Non-combat units?

The Cave Dwellers pondered, only then understanding what Gu Xi was referring to.

”Everyone in the city eats this way; there’s no distinction between combat and non-combat units.”

Gu Xi thought, can it be like this?

In his view, combat units are combat units, residents are residents.

Unexpectedly, everyone in the Underground City can join the battle.

However, Gu Xi quickly realized.

Apart from Cave Dwellers possessing labor ability, it’s only Minotaurs that can do hard labor.

Sending other troops to work, it’s better to let them out to rob efficiently.

Moreover, with Black Dragons, Red Dragons, and Green Dragons, just ask, which one is a non-combat resident?

After sorting out this idea, Gu Xi understood the Cave Dwellers’ words.

At first, he thought ordinary residents in the Demon City were living poorly.

He didn’t expect their lives were quite alright.

The combat units eat what they eat.

But Gu Xi also understood, these foods surely aren’t enough.

Farm expansion is still necessary.

”Would you be willing to plant on the surface?

If you go to plant on the surface, do you have enough people?”

”Of course we’d be willing to go plant on the surface, lord rest assured, our Cave Dwellers are abundant in manpower, and lord, let me tell you, farming shouldn’t be solely shouldered by us Cave Dwellers.

Harpies must also join.

They are fast and can go to the surface to hunt.

Furthermore, among Harpies, there’s a type that can control wind and Thunder, they can infuse wind and Thunder into their feathers.

They are considered laborers in the city.

Moreover, among Minotaurs, some can be sent out to plow.

With them involved, farming will be faster.”

Listening to the Cave Dwellers, Gu Xi couldn’t help but smile.

It seems contradictions exist everywhere.

Cave Dwellers have survived at the Underground City’s bottom for so many years, not without grievances.

Previously, the underground city’s owner probably thought Cave Dwellers lacked combat ability, and better let them work.

But Gu Xi is different from the previous owner.

Yalidu City has too many Undead.

A clear demarcation between soldiers and civilians is apparent.

So the recent questioning arose.

And this questioning allowed Cave Dwellers to grasp Gu Xi’s true thoughts.

Cave Dwellers don’t dare let Giant Dragons, Hydra, or Scorpion Lions work.

Nor do they dare to offend Medusa or Evil Eye, those ranged units.

Thus they targeted Harpies and Minotaurs.

Anyway, in the Underground City, Harpies and Minotaurs can be considered semi-hard labor creatures.

Otherwise, they wouldn’t have a Maze and Bird’s Nest Base outside the City Wall.

Although the Cave Dwellers’ words, Gu Xi agreed halfway.

However, he didn’t agree directly.

This matter Gu Xi plans to leave to Dominic to handle.

After all, the Demon City will be managed by Dominic thereafter.

If he arbitrarily acts now, what does that make of him?

Moreover, Dominic hasn’t yet counted the existing troops in the Demon City.

After counting the troops, the next step isn’t full farming.

With nearly half a day remaining, the wild monster siege will begin.

At this time, it would be foolish to go out to reclaim and farm.

Currently, it should be the best time for full war preparation.

Gu Xi didn’t speak further with the Cave Dwellers, but instead went to other areas.

Before the battle starts, Gu Xi plans to check other situations in the underground space.

Upon hearing Gu Xi’s departing footsteps, the Cave Dwellers didn’t insist on keeping him, but instead chuckled.

To the Cave Dwellers, regardless of whether Gu Xi listened or not, as long as the words were spoken, it counts as a victory.

Perhaps soon enough, their work will be much easier, those Harpies and Minotaurs they sustain will come down to work.
