Once she confirmed that the approach Gu Xi provided was sound, the fiery and efficient Eve immediately sprang into action.

Gu Xi, of course, was kept back to cooperate with the research.

Being drafted as free labor like this didn’t bother Gu Xi; he’d come here in the first place to strengthen that recently buffed chunk of his Intelligence through reading, studying, and meditation.

To give his Intelligence Attributes a stable boost.

Helping with research here was also a way of using Intelligence—reading and studying wasn’t much different from cooperating with the experiments.

Gu Xi also wanted to see how Eve worked, to see whether a new type of unit would be born under his command.

So Gu Xi stayed in this Underground Alchemy Laboratory, cooperating with Eve as they ran experiment after experiment.

The main experiments here were, naturally, various analyses of Negative Energy in different soils.

Eve’s primary samples came from her previous experimental materials.

At the same time, the experiments required adding various different materials into the soil to test how the dirt would change.

Most importantly, the soil needed to undergo high-temperature processing.

Gu Xi commanded the Flame Domain, so all the high-temp work fell squarely on his shoulders.

Watching clods of dirt turn into ceramic and tiles in the flames, Gu Xi understood exactly why he was kept here.

This was hard labor in every sense of the word.

Still, Gu Xi did a decent job.

Through sampling, mixing, and experimenting, they finally picked out three types of soil.

At the same time, the material ratios that could be added into the soil were more or less determined.

From now on, their goal shifted to the final Stone Giant experiment.

Just as they were about to start the Stone Giant trials, Gu Xi’s movements suddenly halted.

The temporary Intelligence buff on him vanished.

Gu Xi looked up at the time—unknowingly, eight hours had gone by, and for all eight hours he’d been buried in various research tasks.

This time, the newly added temporary Intelligence actually left 1.5 points behind.

That result made Gu Xi’s eyes light up.

Eve, in the middle of the experiment, asked in slight confusion,

”My lord, what happened? Control the fire properly; don’t mess up the heat.”

”The boosted temporary Intelligence just disappeared.”

Gu Xi replied with a smile.

”Oh, you mean the Attributes you wished for at the Fountain of Victory.

Those Attribute gains don’t really mean anything.

Even if they go up, they’re fake.

When you Upgrade, the Attributes you get via wishing will be overwritten by the new ones.

All the effort you put in during that period will be for nothing—however many Attributes you’ve stacked up, that many will be shaved off then.”

”How can it be meaningless? Look, with my temporary Intelligence boosted, I can think things through in more detail, and I can see more.

You saw I could keep up with your thought process just now.

And now that my Attributes have increased, my Mana’s gone up too, so I can fight better as well.”

There was one more thing Gu Xi didn’t say: if his main body’s Attributes couldn’t keep rising forever, he could always load them onto his virtual body.

Gu Xi did not believe that when he switched to a virtual body he wouldn’t be able to retain at least some Intelligence Attributes.

After all, this was Orange Armor-level Power.

Hearing this, Eve didn’t argue. She just turned back and continued reading through the experiment results.

Gu Xi followed his own line of thought as he worked.

He helped Eve here, running all sorts of experiments.

Every twenty-four hours, he’d head back to the Main City District to refresh his temporary Intelligence buff.

Then he’d return and start a new round of tests.

The plan they’d talked about at the start—wandering around Yalidu City, walking a bit, and feeling the changes in Yalidu City—never happened.

Almost all his time was spent in the Laboratory in the Magic District.

But for Gu Xi, the end result was worth it.

After two and a half days of effort,

an Undead Transformation Stone Giant was finally completed.

The Stone Giant before him stood around two meters tall, body entirely pure Black, proportions basically the same as a normal human, with no weapons, gear, or Armor on him—just a pure Stone Giant.

He didn’t even have facial features; he clearly looked like a petrified version of the Equipment Carriers under Gu Xi’s command.

This Stone Giant with not a trace of Undead flair on the surface nonetheless left Gu Xi and Eve very satisfied.

They hadn’t even started testing yet, but both Gu Xi and Eve could feel the thick Undead aura emanating from the Stone Giant.

They hadn’t stuffed corpses or bones into the Stone Giant, nor installed organs inside him.

This aura was radiating from the Stone Giant from the inside out.

The Stone Giant before them belonged to the Undead.

”Height 2.01 meters, weight 1.2 tons, movement speed 25 kilometers per hour.

Body made from volcanic ash taken from the Entrance to the Underworld at the volcano, river mud from Yellow Springs Road, plus normal soil and some ash, mixed at a ratio of one to 1.35 to 7.63.

Also mixed in are seeds of mandrake flowers from Yellow Springs Road, roots of ghost-vine grass, and juice from ghost-face fruit.

Then all of it is soaked in converted Magic Potion, mixed, shaped, and finally baked at high temperature with Flame.”

Eve carefully read off the experimental report.

Gu Xi, meanwhile, was carefully checking the Attributes of the Stone Giant before him.

[Netherworld Stone Giant (Level 7, Summoned Creatures): Experience (0/3500), Attack 9, Defense 18, Life 55, Skills: Undead Creatures, Mechanical Puppet, Mental Immunity, Magic Resistance (25% chance to resist all Magic Attack), Mechanical Heart (Mechanical operation power +10%), Magic Source Body (boosts nearby spellcasting power by 5%).]

The stats of the Netherworld Stone Giant in front of him took Gu Xi by surprise.

He hadn’t expected those distorted Magic Potions to have such an effect.

Boosting spellcasting power.

Wasn’t this essentially giving him an extra Magic Ceremony altar?

This kind of unit, focused on Defense, with strong Magic Resistance and also able to enhance spellcasting power, was clearly meant as a defensive unit for Mages.

Even though their movement speed was obviously on the slow side, they didn’t need weapons or Armor, so this kind of unit could also be used for hard labor.

”Eve, once everything’s finalized, first build a foundry and start training these troops.

After we have a certain number, assign them to the Demon Sacrifice Camp to serve as defensive units and labor units.”

Eve only ever thought about recreating everything from the tower.

As for how to use the units she recreated, she had absolutely no ideas.

On top of that, Eve herself didn’t command troops, so she had no objections to Gu Xi’s orders—on the contrary, she felt his arrangements were very reasonable.

”My lord, rest assured, I’ll handle everything properly.”
