Chapter 297: Towhead

”What the fuck! I did it,” David thought in his mind as it was still hard for him to believe that he had picked the golden key up.

The next moment the key in his hand suddenly turned hot.

At first, David thought that the heat would stay like this, but soon his thoughts turned wrong as the key in his hand began turning more hotter.

”UGH!” He couldnʼt help but groan in pain, bringing a look of surprise on the already shocked faces in the crowd. Davidʼs wife, who had been shouting in joy since she was now the wife of the Townhead, suddenly turned silent as a concerned look appeared on her face, seeing her husband crying in pain.

Even her daughter started crying, seeing his father in pain.

Lewis, who was standing next to David, also felt the heat released by the golden key. He had no choice but to leave the stage.

Davidʼs cry turned louder as louder since he felt as if he had lava in his hands, but miraculously, except for feeling the heat, there were no other effects on his body.

Soon, the golden key in his hand melted. It then began engulfing David slowly, starting from his hand.

David felt as if he was also melting as the melted key tried to engulf him. He tried to lose consciousness, so he could handle the pain, but unfortunately for him, the pain didnʼt let him lose his awareness.

Time flew by.

The golden key, the size of an ordinary key, had now engulfed the entirety of David, who was tens of times larger than it.

The crowd looked at everything happening on the stage with surprise, while Davidʼs wife had tears in his eyes, seeing the pain her husband had gone through. For a moment, she even cursed herself for encouraging David to take part in the bidding. For her, her husband was more significant than any position or benefit.

Several more seconds passed. The melted key had begun forcefully compressing itself completely into Davidʼs body.

David was currently only a Level 10 and an inferior lifeform. Whereas the key allowed him to directly upgrade to Level 50, a rare lifeform, and just a level away from becoming an epic lifeform, so David needed to evolve twice at the same time. His body was growing to suit the evolution with the help of the energy released by the golden key.

Finally, after seven more minutes had passed, the melted key had completely compressed itself into Davidʼs body.

”Wow!” The crowd couldnʼt help but exclaim in astonishment, seeing the growth David had.

The difference between David before attempting and now was way too big. He earlier stood at around 2 meters tall but was now approaching 2.5 meters tall. His body had turned bulkier, giving him a terrifying giant appearance. His hair which previously had a sliver of white hair, had now completely turned black while they had reached his waist. The mustache and beard he had been carrying earlier had now disappeared, giving him a clean-shaven look. The eyes that contained gentleness and cunningness had now turned calm, making him even more terrifying.

David looked at himself in surprise, seeing the sudden outrageous growth he had. He felt that he was invincible at that moment. He was ushering in the glory of invincibility when suddenly he felt someone very dangerous looking at him.

David followed the sense and found him looking at one of the VIP rooms. For someone like him, who had reached Level 50, looking through the wall was nothing.

David bypassed the wall and finally found the source of the sense. The next moment, his face turned pale as Aakeshʼs eyes clashed with him.

He didnʼt dare to continue looking and directly moved his eyes away. It all happened so fast that only a few beings were able to see the sudden change in David and the clash that didnʼt last for even a second.

Lewis was one of the beings who saw the scene. Since he knew who was in the VIP room, David looked at; he didnʼt find the sudden change in Davidʼs expression, something to get surprised.

Seeing David moving his eyes away, Aakesh also stopped looking at him. He had been worrying that all the participants would fail in picking up the golden key, seeing so many failures, but now that the golden key had found its owner and the town had found its Townhead, Aakesh didnʼt need to carry it anymore.

There were still around a thousand more participants left for their attempt, but since Lewis had already announced that even if the citizens failed or didnʼt get their turn, they would still need to pay their due of 100,000 low soul stones for participating in the bid.

Since 3759 citizens participated in the auction of the golden key, Aakesh had already earned around 375 million low soul stones while the egg was still left for the auction.

”Congratulations!” Lewis congratulated David since he was now the new Townhead of the town. He wanted to be the first to congratulate him since he was also the army chief of the town.

”Thank you, senior,” David respectfully responded and thanked Lewis for his congratulations.

”You donʼt need to call me senior. Youʼre now the Townhead and my superior,” Lewis told David as he slightly bowed to show that he had accepted Davidʼs position as the new Townhead.

David only smiled and nodded in response to Lewisʼs bow.

His eyes then fell on his wife and daughter. He couldnʼt help but feel a pang in his heart, seeing tears on his wifeʼs face and crying daughter.

He directly left the stage and rushed to his family.

He very slowly wiped the tears out of his wifeʼs eyes and then gestured to his wife to calm their daughter down while he made faces to make her smile. He didnʼt carry her as he had gained a large amount of strength in minutes, and he didnʼt want to hurt his daughter before being able to control his power.

Meanwhile, the crowd fell silent to make Townheadʼs efforts to make his daughter smile succeed.

Lewis waited a few seconds and then released a cough to bring the attention back to him.. He commended the effort of David to make his daughter smile, but he was here for a job, and the work is still left to do.
