Chapter 292: Auction(1)

The army chief appeared out of nowhere on the center stage. With his appearance, the silence present broke down.

For the majority of the citizens, the army chief had appeared out of nowhere, but for beings who had reached Level 40 could clearly see the movements of the army chief. He had exited one of the VIP rooms and then had directly jumped down on the stage. At the last moment before the landing, he had used one of the skills to slow down his jump and gently landed on the stage, creating an illusion that he had appeared out of nowhere directly on the stage.

Upon the army chiefʼs appearance, the crowd stared at him with eager anticipation as it waited for the auction to begin. Since almost all of the citizens, irrespective of their level, had heard the announcement from the guards, they knew it had something to do with the army and the army chief, so they didnʼt feel surprised seeing the army chief on the stage.

”Hello, ladies and gentleman, I am Lewis, the army chief of the town,” The army chief introduced himself.

”Before the auction begins, I will request for you to pray for the safe passage of the previous Townhead for his reincarnation,” Lewis then requested the crowd, waiting for the auction to begin.

No one objected to Lewisʼs request. The majority in the crowd pressed their palms together, brought it closer to their hearts, and closed their eyes as they prayed for the safe reincarnation for the previous Townhead.

Lewis did the same as it was his request to the crowd in the first place. He didnʼt do it for the safe passage of reincarnation for Mark, but he had a purpose behind doing it.

Lewis was currently the only one who knew about the test for owning the golden key. There was a chance that he would fail the qualification, so he was preparing for that. Even if he failed the test, whoever became the new Townhead would remember his respect for the previous Townhead. That would subconsciously make him a favoring figure in the new Townheadʼs mind.

All in the crowd didnʼt pray for the safe passage of Mark as not everyone liked him. So they only looked at the crowd praying.

Time flew by, and two minutes passed. Lewis then thanked everyone for praying for Mark with a sincere look on his face.

As Lewis had expected, many in the crowd already began having a positive expression for him.

”As you all may be aware, we are gathered here for the auction. The auction will only have two products: first, the golden key, second, the egg of the wolf king.”

”The golden key is an item that will allow anyone who owns it to become the new Townhead.”

”The egg of the wolf king, as its name suggests, will give birth to a wolf that would grow to be at the same level as the wolf king,” Lewis gave the basic introduction of both the products to the crowd.

”Since all of us are eagerly waiting for the auction to begin, thereʼs no point in waiting. LET THE AUCTION BEGIN!” Lewis announced. In the end, his voice had turned into a shout, which brought out cheers and applause from the crowd in response.

At this moment, the crowd had already forgotten about the death of the Townhead. Their only focus was on the auction and the excitement that would come with it. Their town has already faced two tragedies in the last several days, so the crowd was excited at the prospect of a new Townhead, with the hope that the new Townhead would bring the town to new prosperity.

Lewis didnʼt stop the crowd as even he felt his blood boiling, thinking about the excitement of the auction. That excitement also contained nervousness of whether he would succeed or not.

After full applause for several seconds, the crowd finally stopped and looked at the stage, only to become dumbfounded. There was no one standing on the stage.

Gasps of surprises rang in the area as the crowd looked around for him. While those beings above Level 40 looked at the VIP room, from where Lewis had jumped out.

Lewis and Aakesh were currently in a conversation. To be exact, the conversation was one-sided. Aakesh was speaking while Lewis was only listening.

Expressions on Lewisʼs face changed from time to time as he listened to Aakesh.

Aakesh was currently telling him about the pattern of the bid for the golden key.

Aakesh had decided the golden key to be the first bid. He believed this way, the egg of the wolf king would sell for more since those who failed to pick up the key would spend everything in their power to own the egg.

”You can begin the auction now,” Aakesh ordered and gestured to Lewis to leave.

Lewis respectfully nodded and left the VIP room. The crowd, who had myriads of expressions on their faces, calmed down, seeing Lewisʼs return to the center stage.

”Sorry for the wait, ladies, and gentlemen. The first product for todayʼs auction is…,” Lewis apologized for the wait and began announcing. To create bigger suspense, he stopped midway and looked at the crowd, hoping for their guesses.

The majority of the crowd guessed the egg since they believed that the golden key was the main product of the auction.

Seeing the majority of the crowd guessing wrong, Lewis didnʼt wait and announced, ”The first product for todayʼs auction is the golden key.”

Lewis announced and pointed at the ground. The next moment, where Lewisʼs finger had pointed, a golden key appeared. If not for the shine, low-level citizens wouldnʼt even have been able to see it.

”This is the golden key that could make any one of you the new Townhead of this town,” Lewis said, while he pointed at the golden key, then at the crowd.

There was a slight tremble in his voice as it was also his first time seeing it. He was here for the same purpose the others were, so how could he not think of owning it?

The key couldnʼt be any more ordinary than regular keys, but the splendor it released showed that it was anything but an ordinary key.
