Chapter 1585: Staged

*Zap!*

The blade was suddenly stopped by a hand, preventing the blade from stabbing the personʼs head.

”!!!” The assassin couldnʼt help but widen his eyes, not expecting that the dying man would suddenly return to life.

But what was even more shocking was the voice coming out of this dying man. He sounded so familiar.

”I am really disappointed in you, Your Highness.”

”!!!” The assassin took a step back. ”You…”

”I have never wanted to believe it, and I have been defending you, but to think Iʼm actually a fool that doesnʼt know the person I serve has gone astray.”

”Masa!”

The dying man suddenly rose from the bed and took out his wig, showing his true appearance. It wasnʼt the grand protector.

Suddenly, a few protectors stormed into the room.

”!!!” The prince looked around and realized he had been trapped. ”All of you…”

”Your Highness… No, I should probably just call you by your name. Samuel, you are under arrest for betraying your country and betraying your race.” Hulbertʼs expression turned solemn before turning to the other few protectors. ”First Prince faction! Iʼm sure that you wonʼt stop us anymore, right?”

They could only look away, ashamed.

”Masa?” Hulbert squinted his eyes. ”You are the most loyal person to him. Are you going to protect him after all this?”

Masa stood up and let out a long sigh. ”Your Highness. This is the end. While itʼs true that our kingdom is the weakest among the four… while itʼs true that we are a kingdom where we revere strength.

”There are always three teachings that have been taught for over a thousand years. First, train your body like thereʼs no tomorrow and become a great man. Second, take pride in the fact that you are humans, who have survived until this day. Lastly, respect your promise.”

Masa raised his head, muttering, ”We can compete, we can kill each other, but we have to fulfill our promise. The reason our Atracaeca Kingdom has been able to stand for so long is our integrity. People promise us because they know we will also fulfill our promise.

”You have promised that you shall fight for the better of our kingdom.” Masa closed his eyes, feeling very tired. It felt like he had aged ten years in just a couple of minutes.

The first prince waved his hand and shouted, ”I do this because this is for the better of our kingdom!”

Masa raised his voice. ”What part of it is better? Are you planning to turn this kingdom into a demon kingdom? We have fought them for a thousand years, and do you think we will stoop so low that we will become demons just to save our asses? Our hearts are not as weak as those people in the Muivell Kingdom.

”What? Are you going to tell us that killing the Grand Protector is for the sake of the kingdom? If you couldnʼt see how capable your father was and how dire our situation is, then it looks like all the teachings that have been passed down to you have never entered your mind.”

”What do you know about me? I am the best you have. Just look at that traitor, the second prince! He is unfit to be the leader!”

”I might not be qualified to say whether the second prince is fit or unfit as our leader, but he has also paid the price of his decision. And I believe that he has changed for the better.”

”Changed for the better? He is just a scheming little bastard. Look where he is now. He is already outside the capital!”

Masa could only let out a sigh. ”Because the second prince is heading to the Muivell Kingdom, not to escape, but because he believes his father is still alive. He wants to find Noel Ardagan to ask for his help.

”Despite his relationship with him, he is prepared to kneel before him or give up his life because he knows exactly what this kingdom needs. Unfortunately, you donʼt seem to be able to figure it out.”

The first prince clenched his fists.

To stop him, Masa continued, ”Your Highness, are you planning to frame the second prince for the assassination? By raising a group of protectors, you can point them in that direction.”

”You are spouting nonsense.”

”Nonsense? Unfortunately, I have already witnessed everything, Your Highness.”

”!!!” The first prince widened his eyes. ”You… spied on me?! How dare you?!”

The first prince pounced on Masa, but the Great Protectors around him immediately seized him. ”Unhand me. Iʼm going to kill this old guy for saying nonsense!”

Masa could only look down, saddened by what had happened to the first prince. He never thought that the bright child he had taught would end up becoming a traitor to this kingdom and a traitor to the human race.

Masa shook his head. ”Fellow protectors. I have to trouble you to bring him away.”

Other protectors sympathized with him. Masa was indeed an excellent protector. Among many protectors, his strength alone was among the top five. There was a reason the Grand Protector had asked him to teach the first prince.

Yet, he ended up finding that the person he taught ended up becoming a traitor and killing his own father.

He had failed the task from the person he respected the most.

”Masa. You bastard! You old jerk!” Samuel kept shouting until his voice gradually vanished.

Hulbert, who stayed behind, couldnʼt help but place his hand on Masaʼs shoulder. ”Masa.”

”You donʼt have to say anything to me, Hulbert.” Masa bit his lips. ”I have failed my teacher.”

”Iʼm sure that the grand protector will be proud of you.” Hulbert sighed. ”Donʼt do this, Masa. We still need you. With the grand protector gone, the kingdom has to continue. Your wisdom is necessary, Masa.”

Masa shook his head helplessly. ”Hulbert. Everyone is going to die at one point. After this, I donʼt have the heart to die of old age anymore. I just wish to drag down a few demons with me to give an explanation to him.”

Hulbert bit his lip, but he couldnʼt say anything.
