Chapter 1554: Hero

”This...”

The grand judges and all the witnesses couldn’t help but gasp, not expecting that there was another layer of conspiracy hidden.

Duke Lorelei explained, ”When Laufey Ardagan checked the third squad, he didn’t find anything wrong. There was no ambush whatsoever.

”But when he dropped his guard, the ambush happened, not from the outside, but from the inside. Several members of the third squad took the lives of the other members.

”Furious, Laufey Ardagan also executed them, but unfortunately, the Supreme Devil Organization had enough evidence to discredit Laufey Ardagan.

”The Ardagan family came to know about this situation, and Laufey Ardagan chose to become a double agent.

”To make the organization believe him, he played along with them, but he had never hurt an innocent person.”

”!!!” The people were stupefied. This revelation was a bit too much even for them. They had never thought that Laufey Ardagan had sacrificed so much, not only for the Ardagan family but also for this kingdom.

One of the judges couldn’t help but say, ”It is impossible for him not to hurt a single innocent man. There are a lot of people who have died at his hand.”

”There are a lot, but it is not as many as you have in mind. As much as I don’t like to discredit the deceased...” Duke Lorelei took out a document. ”Baron Eidy. One of the most famous targets of Laufey Ardagan.

”Baron Eidy had been smuggling a lot of our people as slave labor to the organization. He was the biggest reason the supreme devil organization had a lot of bases in the Muivell Kingdom.

”The way to kill him was by using the Ardagan family. The Ardagan family would mark him as a potential suspect. This information was provided by Laufey Ardagan.

”The organization would then feel suspicious and think that if the Ardagan family was planning to capture Baron Eidy, it would be easier to silence Baron Eidy forever.

”We had confiscated a lot of proof from Baron Eidy, which had never been publicized to prevent the organization from realizing that Laufey Ardagan was our agent from the start.

”Next victim? Mr. Dexter from the Agonia Merchant Group. He has been a just person, and he is truly a good person. And that’s why... I brought him here.”

”What?” The judge stood up.

Duke Lorelei waved his hand, signaling his people to bring in the person.

This time, an old man entered together with his wife as well as his children and grandchildren.

Most people couldn’t recognize him, but some, who had met him in the past, could.

”Master Dex!” A merchant suddenly stood up.

”Marcus.” Dex smiled and nodded his head.

”You... You are still alive, Master? I thought...”

”I’m still alive and well. Thanks to Mr. Luke.”

”What is going on, Duke?” The grand judge couldn’t help but ask.

”For those who were not innocent, Laufey Ardagan would release information about them, so the Ardagan family could target them. For those who were innocent, Laufey Ardagan would relocate them instead of killing them.

”Please take a look at this.” Duke Lorelei grabbed a document. ”This is a proof of citizenship of Mr. Dexter in the Greenwood Kingdom, signed by Fleeting Arbiter Kevin Stargaze and the former Royal Mage Raincart Ezenholm.

”Knowing that his life has been targeted and the fact that the Supreme Devil Organization has ears all around the kingdom, the only way to save them is to relocate them to a different kingdom.

”For Mr. Dexter, he has been relocated this whole time to the Greenwood Kingdom under a new alias. In fact, he has led a fulfilling life as Mr. Gran of the Unicorn Merchant Group. Isn’t that right, Mr. Gran?” Duke Lorelei smiled.

Gran nodded his head. ”Back then, I was approached by Mr. Luke Ardagan because the Supreme Devil Organization wanted me dead. I had to fake my death and move to a different kingdom. Without them, I would probably have died.

”It is a shame that I have to leave my country, but I’m currently living a very good and fulfilling life, so I don’t regret my decision. I have long abandoned my name, Dexter, so it will be more comfortable if you call me Gran.”

”Thank you, Mr. Gran.” Duke Lorelei nodded. ”As you can see, the innocent people have been spared. In fact, we have the records of all the people who are supposed to die, but some choose to remain silent because they have long thrown away their past.

”Hence, I know that Laufey Ardagan might have done a lot of cruel things, but I can assure you that not a single thing is treasonous.

”He even had to attack his own nephew, whom he loved so much, but from the very beginning, there were no casualties.”

The grand judges were exchanging looks again. If this were true, they could somehow understand why Duke Lorelei considered Laufey Ardagan a hero.

Despite his loyalty, he had no choice but to obey the supreme devil organization to crush them. And if they looked at the result, they could say that Laufey Ardagan had succeeded.

Noel and Oscar might be the ones crushing them, but without Laufey, it would be impossible.

But a few people in this world knew that this wasn’t the truth. A portion of them might be true, but it had been mixed with some lies.

In the end, the history was written by the victor. In this scenario, Noel was the victor.

By destroying the organization, no one from that organization could testify that they were lying. The only person who could do it was the Supreme Devil, but that person had retreated deep into the alien territory. Even if he came back here, no one would believe him. No, they would think he was sowing discord among them.

Duke Lorelei continued, ”Hence, I would like the court to announce that Laufey Ardagan is not guilty. I demand that he be granted the Medal of the White Cross, symbolizing the greatest honor that a soldier can achieve.

”I believe Laufey Ardagan is a hero, not just for the Ardagan family, but also for this kingdom.”
