Starting as a Mechanical Hunter

Chapter 653: Chapter 184: System Update Level 3 Jump

’Judy’ looked at Judy in shock.

The two looked identical in appearance, temperament, and every small detail.

However, the Judy opposite chose a completely different path from her own.

”Why!?” ’Judy’ asked hoarsely.

Judy looked at her with disdain:

”Fool, do you remember anything before you joined this company? No, of course not, or rather, you’ve subconsciously forgotten.”

”You were a Neuro-Modifying Master in the underground world, responsible for off-the-record jobs for corporations, modifying employees’ memories, stealing hackers’ secrets, performing fine-tuning surgeries on Bionic Men. You were so free, so rebellious.

Later, an underground headhunter contacted you, offering a lucrative job at a large company. You jumped at the chance, and that company was the Vinos Life Safety Group.

As you went from job to job, task to task, you finally realized you had become a full-fledged corporate employee. Strangely, you even developed a spontaneous liking for the company. Your personality shouldn’t have been like this, but your body’s reactions were quite honest. Isn’t that fascinating?”

Watching her counterpart’s changing expression, Judy coldly continued, ”Someone used biological means to implant a ’loyal-dog personality’ into you, boosting your loyalty to an organization you were unfamiliar with, ultimately taming you into a corporate dog. Do you remember any of this?”

”No, it’s not like that, the supervisor treats me very well, and my colleagues at the company are caring. Tuning the Neural Network has always been my ambition. No, no, you’re lying, you’re lying!”

’Judy’ suddenly raised her head, eyes bloodshot, expression twisted. The next moment, the Network Implantation Chamber quickly opened, brain code writing completed, and hacker implantation began.

The same action played out simultaneously in the other Judy. Suddenly, the temperature of the electrodes in the chamber rose rapidly, and the black-in instructions transformed from Neural Signals were all-pervasive, Trojan horses, registrars, brain URL attackers, like an army, pouring into the opponent’s mind—defense, attack, modify, correct.

The actions of both were almost identical; being the head of the electronic network defense department, she was herself a formidable hacker.

However, the confrontation was unexpectedly short. As the Data Cloud formed, ’Judy’s’ attack was swallowed up.

An icy voice played out in her mind.

’The company server has detected that your ’account’ is illegally stolen; it is now disabled. Please proceed to the examination department for a written review immediately.’

The Data Cloud turned into doors, each time ’Judy’ initiated a command, one was sealed off. This level of firewall could only be achieved by the company’s network.

Just before falling into unconsciousness, the last thing she heard was Judy’s ridicule.

”It seems the usage rights to the company network cloud are in my hands as a full employee. You should go home, pitiful outsource.”

As she watched ’Judy’ fall unconscious, a complex look flashed in Judy’s eyes.

”It’s time to act, my friend. Although you are the original, you still need to modify this clone’s memory to ensure nothing goes wrong in future company reviews.”

”Or have you developed some strange feelings for this clone? I remember you’re not too picky, right?” Cain teased, ”Want to try yourself on yourself?”

”Your personality is getting worse, ’Cain’!”

Judy exhaled, dragging the other into the Nest, ”I’m just pitying someone so used by the company to oblivion.”

”Is that so? Aren’t you suspicious that your ’Punk Spirit’ and ’Past Memory’ were quietly implanted when I awakened you?”

Judy suddenly turned, glaring at ’Cain.’

’Cain’ quickly laughed it off.

”Just kidding. At most, I released your Thought Steel Seal. Only that monster can brand something like that.”

”You better be.”

”Life is but a play, and we merely play the ’roles’ within,” ’Cain’ murmured to himself, watching as another Cain regenerated from the Cloning Chamber.

”What’s important is not the role we choose, but playing the role we must.”

Judy adjusted the equipment, sneering:

”If you really think that, you should tell the board right now that the so-called ’Twenty-Fifth Generation Virus’ is just a ruse, and the entire antibody experiment is a scam you concocted with me.”

”You should also tell ’Mother’ that the ’Twenty-Fifth Generation Virus’ was actually you selling out the company’s interests, using the President’s authority to obtain the ’Genetic Editor’ source code, which you handed to the enemy so they could better face ’Mother.’

”Oh, right, I forgot, you’re just a clone, not even born to ’Mother.’

”Why the sarcasm?” ’Cain’ shrugged, ”We’re all in the same boat now.”

The two Cains were simultaneously placed into the machinery, which was the Nest’s built-in ’Memory Real-time Conversion Device.’

What Judy needed to do was transfer the ’clone’s’ memory into the real Cain’s brain.

Of course, a portion needed to be trimmed. Otherwise, the resurrected Cain might want to become a clone to shake off blame again.

This would create an endless cycle.

The part to be removed, naturally, was the truth of the ’Twenty-Fifth Generation Virus.’

For a Neuro-Modifying Master, this was not difficult.

A moment later, a bewildered figure stepped out of the Nest. Cain glanced around with a hint of confusion before remembering he was here to check on the ’original.’

Soon, just by driving out the antibody and showcasing in the corporate wars, he could successfully replace the original with his achievements.

By then, he would be the only Cain Vinos!

The door suddenly swung open, and Judy burst in, looking quite anxious as she straightforwardly announced, ”So this is where you were, Cain. There’s a problem with the virus, you must come with me!”

Cain frowned and said, ”How could there be a problem with the virus? Wasn’t it detected as qualified after three rounds of trials?”

”It’s hard to explain in a few words. Just follow me!”

”Let’s go!”

Cain took the lead, and as for Judy, she covertly glanced at the Nest, then put on a tense expression again and followed closely behind.

Quickly, Cain arrived at the network monitoring room. A Network Neural Engineer, an advanced profession of Neural Editor, stood up, looking serious:

”Boss, there’s a problem. A significant amount of biological network clouds are beginning to lose control. It seems a higher-level command is taking over.”

”A higher-level command? I’m here. How could there be a higher-level command?” Cain said sternly, ”Could it be a hacker?”

”Impossible, there’s no sign of a hacker intrusion,” Judy firmly denied.

”Artificial Intelligence, what about the Artificial Intelligence? Turn on the Artificial Intelligence for me!”

”Artificial Intelligence has also lost contact.”

”Boss, look at the sky fast!”

With the help of the holographic screen, Cain looked toward the sky, only to find the data cloud layer in the sky had vanished, replaced by a sky full of stars. Any normal person seeing such a starry sky would instinctively feel dizzy, disordered in consciousness, and unable to stare directly.

It’s as if watching a movie played at a hundred times the normal speed.

This illusion is due to the rapid change in data, often referred to as the ’information superhighway’ in cyberspace, and now it has appeared in reality with even more complicated changes.

”Biological model computer!”

Many were amazed, although everyone present served it, truly few had ever seen it.

Yet the stars didn’t care about the thoughts of mortals. They slowly started to rotate, intensifying the unbearable feeling, generating layered, indescribable hallucinations in mid-air, and many people heard bizarre murmuring.

Numerous people vomited on the spot.

Those who didn’t vomit experienced intense tinnitus, with many eardrums rupturing, resulting in bleeding.

Cain widened his eyes while looking at the display screen, which was a holographic screen reporting computational power. At this moment, the computational power had reached its limit and was advancing toward another peak at a rapid speed.

The starry sky began to crack, vaguely revealing a giant phantom, as countless streams of data crazily filled it, with more ’biological pipes,’ seemingly about to pull out from it.

Some ’network clouds’ even collapsed on the spot as they couldn’t sustain the computational power, leading to the disintegration of the underlying structure.

Most people couldn’t understand.

Only a few people somewhat understood.

’The Mother’ is trying to separate itself.

Finally, with the last ’umbilical cord’ cut, there was a ’boom,’ and the stars re-closed, then disappeared, while the residual data cloud layer visibly thinned.

The giant vanished too, replaced by a human silhouette, hovering in mid-air. Even though it did nothing, it still felt as substantial as the sky, as if standing there, it was a large database, nurturing a virtual space and scripting life codes within.

Raising a hand or taking a step seemed capable of opening a world.

”What a wonderful feeling!”

Gao Gong twisted his neck, the parts of the eyeball seemed to have an endless stream of information flowing through.

”Awesome, so awesome!”

The system panel opened, and sure enough, a series of notification sounds popped up.
