Not Being a Trainer This Time

Chapter 390: Chapter 245: Planting Radishes

Faced with the words of the old village chief, Naoki was at a loss for how to respond.

In the end, it wasn’t their fault; the main culprits for Calyrex being forgotten were the Galar Royal Family during the kingdom’s era.

So he simply said nothing, and after thanking the chief, he went to the bookshelf piled with books.

The covers of these books were worn, the pages yellowed, clearly several years old.

The old village chief explained from behind, ”These ancient books have been passed down from my great-grandfather’s generation. When I was young, I regarded them as stories. Although some are old, by their looks, they can be passed down for a long, long time.”

Naoki nodded, reached for a book on the shelf, and saw boldly written on its cover, ”Crown Snowfield Expedition Diary”.

”Not this one.”

Naoki set the book aside and continued to browse the shelves, and soon found an ancient book titled ”The King of Bountiful Harvests”.

Opening the first page, he saw the straightforward recording of the legend of Calyrex.

”It’s the Pokemon that brings bounty to the land. When it raises its right hand, it can make flowers bloom and grass flourish. When it raises its left hand, it can enrich the fields and yield abundant crops.”

”It emits a blue glow from its gigantic crown and gallops across the land with its beloved Horse-type Pokemon.”

”Its arrival revitalizes vegetation, bringing bounty to the land. We regard it as king, worship, and believe in it.”

”Huh?” Seeing this, Naoki looked surprised; he thought Calyrex was born as the King of Galar...

But from the contents here, it seems Calyrex was not a king at first; humans, upon witnessing its abilities, made it their king.

”In this light, The King of Bountiful Harvests must also have been a name given to him by ancient humans.”

Naoki had a rough idea in his mind and then continued to read.

”The king has two beloved horses. They are not only gentle mounts for the king but can also inspire the king’s power. When united as one, a forest can be nurtured overnight.”

”Originally, the two horses were of very wild nature, even stealing crops from the village, making humans suffer greatly. However, the king persuaded them and took them as subordinates.”

”Some say their color is as white as the freezing ice, while others say their color is as black as the midnight ghost, but no one knows which saying is correct.”

”These must be Glastrier and Spectrier.” Naoki pondered upon seeing this.

The records here are entirely correct, two horses, one white and one black, capable of invoking different powers within Calyrex.

Naoki continued to read.

”The king tamed the two beloved horses with reins infused with his own power, and those reins were offered to the king as gratitude for the harvest bestowed by him.”

”Connected to the king through the reins are not only the beloved horses but us humans, who must not forget to offer these reins to the king at the beginning of the year.”

”The reins must be woven, layer by layer, from the Radiant Flower and the Horse-type Pokemon’s mane, and this crafting method must be passed down through generations.”

”It matches exactly with what I recall.” Naoki thought.

From the looks of it, helping Calyrex find the two horses, the Reins of Unity are indeed necessary.

Thinking of this, Naoki turned and asked the old village chief, ”By the way, chief, do you know the Reins of Unity?”

Old village chief: ”Reins of Unity? Of course, I know! My ancestors once followed the book’s method to craft the Reins of Unity, though that was long, long ago.”

Saying this, the old village chief looked with some surprise at the tourist in front of him: ”Could it be that you want to make the Reins of Unity?”

Naoki honestly nodded: ”Yes.”

”Although I don’t know what use it is for you to make that thing...” the old village chief said, ”Nowadays, no one remembers the traditional crafting method. If we could return to the era when my great-grandfather was alive, we would surely find someone to help with the crafting.”

Naoki nodded thoughtfully.

Meanwhile, the old village chief looked at him curiously.

Earlier, he heard from Riley that he rescued a stranded tourist from the snow mountains; apparently, the person sought Calyrex.

That stranded tourist, evidently, is the young man before him.

Braving the heavy snow to come to such a desolate place, nearly freezing to death in the mountains, yet still not giving up searching for Calyrex...

The old village chief had never seen such a person.

”You’re quite a strange fellow. Do you truly believe in the legend of Calyrex and think it’s real?”

”Yes, I believe.” Naoki nodded and further added, ”Perhaps Calyrex is watching over you somewhere right now.”

The old village chief shook his head helplessly; it seemed this tourist was already obsessed.

”That’s merely a legend. If you wish to seek Calyrex, then try it yourself! But, no matter what, you must pay attention to your safety!”

”Don’t lose your life searching for a nonexistent Calyrex; that would be too unfortunate.”

Such a promising youth losing life here would be very regrettable.

Moreover, not just that, if news of a death in Freezington Village spreads, no tourists will come, and the businesses in the village like inns and shops will be affected.
