The battle ended as quickly as it had started. It only took Lu Ye and the others around 20 breaths of time to kill the ominous beast. Those Spirit Creek Realm Masters, whose lives had been saved, were rooted to the spot, unable to come to their senses.

It wasn’t until now that the Nightingale arrived. Lu Ye stepped on the Green-Scaled Python and pulled out the Inviolable Saber before glancing at the Nightingale. “Is it that ominous beast?”

“I think so.” The Nightingale nodded.

[We’ve completed the task!] The task was much easier than looking for a criminal. The main reason was that the six of them could work perfectly well together. Moreover, all of them were powerful, which was why they could kill the python without anyone getting injured.

They were not in a hurry to go back, though. To make sure there were no other ominous beasts, they’d better search around. It wouldn’t take them much time anyway.

While Lu Ye was in his thoughts, he suddenly turned to look in a different direction and saw a ray of light rapidly approaching them. The fluctuations of Spiritual Power showed that the person was a Real Lake Realm Master.

Lu Ye slightly waved his hand, after which the Nightingale cupped his fists and disappeared from the place in an instant. A Nightingale’s identity was confidential, so he’d better not show up in front of anyone else.

Lu Ye had no idea who the person was, but the latter was probably from a nearby Sect or family. Upon hearing the noise of the battle, the person came over to have a look.

A moment later, the person landed on the ground and revealed himself. Lu Ye glanced at him and realised that even though the person was an old man with white hair, he was still muscular and full of vitality. It was apparent that he was a Body-tempering Cultivator.

“Great Elder!” exclaimed these Spirit Creek Realm Masters as they were still reeling from the shock.

“What just happened?” asked the old man.

Among them, a slightly older young man pulled himself together and told the old man what had happened. “We were following Senior Brother Wan to patrol the area when we came across this python. It suddenly flared up and gobbled up Senior Brother Wan. It even wanted to eat us as well. It was those people who saved our lives.” As he spoke, he pointed at Lu Ye and the others.

Upon hearing that, the old man snapped. “Why were you not aware that such an ominous beast existed in our territory?” He appeared furious.

Then, he turned to look at Lu Ye and the others. “I’m Chen Lie, the Great Elder of the Chen Family of Mount Mi. Do you mind telling me who you are?”

Lu Ye cupped his fists and replied solemnly, “I’m Lu Ye of Team D9. We’re from the Law Enforcement Hall.”

Chen Lie was shocked. “Law Enforcement Hall?”

Lu Ye explained, “We received information that there seemed to be an ominous beast here, so we came to look into the matter. We happened to see the python harming them when we arrived.”

“I see.” Chen Lie put on a milder expression. “Thanks for saving the lives of these useless disciples of our Sect.”

“Don’t mention it. It’s part of our duty to destroy all evil creatures in the world.”

“To you, it’s within your scope of responsibilities, but to these disciples of the Chen Family, you’ve saved their lives.” Chen Lie turned to look at those cultivators. “Come here and thank them right now.”

Those cultivators hurriedly went over and expressed their gratitude.

Lu Ye waved his hand to show that they didn’t have to thank them. He and his team members were there to carry out a task. It was a shame that they didn’t have a chance to save the cultivator surnamed Wan as they had come too late.

Chen Lie said, “We’d never dare to forget your favour. If you’re fine with it, please come over to the Chen Residence so that we can show our gratitude.”

“There’s no need for that, Great Elder. Since we’ve completed the task, we’ll search around the area to make sure there are no other ominous beasts. We’ll return to Grand Sky City after that.” Certainly, they had to go back quickly to get their battle points. They weren’t willing to waste their time there.

“Don’t worry about it. In that case, I’ll ask some people to carefully patrol the area within a radius of 100 kilometres around here. If there’s an anomaly, I’ll inform you about it right away. This place is our territory, so we have to protect the commoners living here. We wouldn’t dare to let you do that on our behalf,” Chen Lie said. “Although all of you are powerful, there are only the six of you, after all. Why don’t you let us handle the matter? I promise that we’ll take it seriously. What do you say?”

After giving it some thought, Lu Ye dipped his head. “That’s a good idea.”

Under normal circumstances, a Sect or a family was responsible for handling all the matters in their territory. Even if the law enforcement team never came, once the Green-Scaled Python caused trouble, the Chen Family wouldn’t sit back and do nothing. They would have to send several powerful cultivators to kill the python.

It would save Lu Ye and the others some trouble by letting the Chen Family patrol the area to ensure there were no other ominous beasts.

Moreover, it was nighttime now. Even though it wouldn’t affect them in any way if they decided to return, it would be more convenient for them to do so during the day. As such, they could get some rest at the Chen Residence and leave the next day.

“This way, please.” Chen Lie extended his hand and led the way for them.

Lu Ye nodded as they followed Chen Lie.

A moment later, they arrived at the Chen Residence. Unlike the Zhou Residence which was located in a bustling place such as Dingtian City, the Chen Residence was at the bottom of Mount Mi, so the environment was serene.

Although the Chen Family’s tier was roughly the same as that of the Zhou Family, its scale was larger. There were a lot of buildings at the bottom of the mountain that belonged to the Chen Family. Many cultivators were seen moving around.

While leading the way for them, Chen Lie briefly explained the Chen Family’s affairs to them. He appeared hospitable.

However, he was much older than them and a Senior to them. Also, Lu Ye wasn’t a talkative person, so he only responded occasionally. As such, the atmosphere was rather lukewarm.

They soon arrived at a place which was supposed to be the reception hall. Lu Ye and the others took a seat.

Chen Lie said, “Please stay here for a bit. I’ll ask the patriarch to come over and tell some people to patrol the area.”

Naturally, Lu Ye was fine with the arrangement. Not long after Chen Lie was gone, a maidservant presented tea to them.

Following a long time of travel and an intense battle, Lu Ye was thirsty, so he picked up the teacup and took a sip.

As soon as he drank the tea, his expression changed slightly. He glanced at Lin Yinxiu and ordered, “Don’t drink it!”

The teacup was already at Lin Yinxiu’s lips when she heard that. She asked in shock, “What’s wrong?”

The others stopped bringing the teacups closer to their mouths as well.

“There’s poison in the tea!” Lu Ye closed his eyes and sank his soul to look at the Tree of Glyphs. Presently, the tree was covered in a layer of fog. Besides that, he noticed an anomaly with his Divine Pool.

He quickly had a look and discovered a foreign body outside his Divine Pool. That seemed like an unidentifiable bug. If not for the fact that he had a Divine Ego, he wouldn’t have detected it.

It was a wonder what the bug was. Even the Tree of Glyphs couldn’t immediately burn it. Anyway, it must’ve entered Lu Ye’s body through the tea.

In an instant, he realised that what was in the tea wasn’t poison but this foreign body.

The Tree of Glyphs had sensitively reacted to a foreign body, which was why it was covered in a layer of fog.

Before the bug could go near the Divine Pool, a flame appeared out of nowhere and engulfed it. Lu Ye could faintly hear a screech, after which the bug turned into nothingness.

The flame that burned the bug had the same colour as the flame on the Tree of Glyphs. It was apparent that the tree had destroyed the bug.

An astounded Lin Yinxiu threw the teacup away. It fell to the ground and broke into pieces. Although she had no idea how Lu Ye found out there was poison in the tea, she would always obey the team leader’s orders as she was the most obedient member.

Lu Ye opened his eyes and rose to his feet. “Let’s go.”

They couldn’t stay in this dangerous place any longer. A strange feeling had been bugging him since earlier. That was because the Law Enforcement Hall was notorious as what they did was offensive. Usually, the Sects and families would stay away from them. However, those from the Chen Family treated them hospitably.

Lu Ye didn’t think too deeply about it at first. After all, they had indeed saved the Chen Family’s disciples. It was only normal that the other party wanted to show their gratitude.

But now, it seemed that it was all a pretence. The Chen Family had some ill intentions against them.

Lu Ye couldn’t figure out what the Chen Family was up to. Offending the Law Enforcement Hall would only bring about disastrous consequences. A big family like theirs had no reason to get themselves destroyed.

[Also, what’s the bug for?] Since they were running out of time, Lu Ye couldn’t spend too much time thinking about it. He only knew that they had to leave as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile, in a secret room, a Moon Reflection Disc showed what was going on in the reception hall. Chen Lie and Chen Tianchui were monitoring what was happening in the hall.

When Chen Tianchui saw Lu Ye drinking the tea, he felt that everything had been set in stone. But soon, his elation turned into shock.

That was because Lu Ye detected something was wrong with the tea and quickly got to his feet. The woman across from him even threw away the teacup.

“What’s going on?” Chen Lie was astonished. Only Divine Ocean Realm Masters were able to detect the move left behind by the Lord. Regardless of how powerful Lu Ye was, he shouldn’t have realised it.

Previously, after they captured the Nightingale, they soon made him loyal to them. Although he was still a member of the Ministry of Laws, he was already a Chen Family’s subordinate.

However, what had happened in the reception hall showed that Lu Ye had discovered their move.

“We can’t let them leave!” There was no doubt Chen Tianchui was more responsive than Chen Lie. As soon as he realised things had gone wrong, he fished out a Control Gem and infused his Spiritual Power into it. The next instant, a buzz was heard.

“The Grand Ward has been activated. Get some people over to intercept them. We mustn’t let them leave or give them a chance to send a message. Other than Lu Yi Ye, we can kill the rest!” Chen Tianchui hurriedly ordered.

“Yes!” Chen Lie replied and dashed out of the place.

Chen Tianchui’s forehead was beaded with sweat as things had gone wrong. He didn’t expect Lu Ye to be vigilant enough and able to detect the anomaly in the tea.

He finally realised that he shouldn’t underestimate the person that the Lord regarded highly. Although he was flustered, he knew things were under their control. Since Lu Ye had consumed the tea, the thing must’ve hatched in his body. In that case, Lu Ye would be part of them.

As long as the other five people didn’t have a chance to send a message and were killed right there and then, those from the Chen Family could turn things around.

As many thoughts turned over in his mind, Chen Tianchui wiped away the sweat on his forehead and tapped on his Battlefield Imprint to send a message. ‘Please inform the Lord that…’

In the meantime, somewhere in Bing Zhou that rarely anyone visited, the clear water reflected the bright Sunlight.

There were two huts beside the lake. On the bank, a man was holding a fishing rod. Although he had been there for quite a while, he hadn’t caught any fish yet. He was fine with it, though. He just sat there with a calm expression.

Beside the man stood a curvy woman. It was a wonder how long she had been there, but she didn’t seem impatient at all. When she turned to look at the man’s profile occasionally, her eyes were full of love and admiration.
