“Xiao Xinghe of Blue Emperor City!” Lu Ye announced.

Che Zixiong was surprised. He initially thought that those from the Ministry of Laws had their eye on an outstanding cultivator, so they had sent two people to come here and enlist him. Turned out it was Xiao Xinghe.

Honestly, Xiao Xinghe wasn’t bad, and he had performed well in Surging Waves Lake Pass. However, he wasn’t brilliant enough for the Ministry of Laws to send some people here to enlist him.

Also, Xiao Xinghe wasn’t particularly powerful as he was only a Third-Order Real Lake Realm Master. Why would the Ministry of Laws want to transfer him to their organisation?

Soon enough, Che Zixiong came to his senses and glanced at Lu Ye. “Are you Lu Yi Ye from the Crimson Blood Sect?”

He didn’t pay much attention to Lu Ye when the latter mentioned his name. He only found the name familiar, but he didn’t think too deeply about it. It wasn’t until now he recalled who the young man was. [No wonder he’s here to enlist Xiao Xinghe. He’s from the Crimson Blood Sect!]

“Yes.”

Che Zixiong furrowed his brows as this was giving him a headache. Supposedly, since Lu Ye was here with Qian Wudang’s token, he wouldn’t turn him down. After all, he had to show Qian Wudang some respect.

Surging Waves Lake Pass had many cultivators, so it wouldn’t be a huge loss to them even if Xiao Xinghe was gone. There wasn’t a reason for him to turn down Lu Ye.

However, he knew better than anyone why Xiao Xinghe was in Surging Waves Lake Pass. If he let him go, he would offend a certain someone.

Although he was a Divine Ocean Realm Master, he came from a Tier-Three Sect. He couldn’t afford to offend that person.

Just as he was considering how to resolve the problem, he suddenly felt a vibration coming from his Battlefield Imprint. He quickly took a look and was elated. Then, he landed a slam on the table and rose to his feet. “How dare they!”

With that, he was ready to dash out of the hall.

Lu Ye frowned. “What happened, Sir?”

Che Zixiong replied hurriedly, “A Divine Ocean Realm Master from Dark Moon Forest Pass has made a move, so I have to go and stop that person. The two of you just stay here and wait for my return.”

The moment he finished his words, he disappeared from the hall. It was a wonder if a Divine Ocean Realm Master from Dark Moon Forest Pass had indeed made a move.

It wasn’t like Lu Ye could verify it, but it was coincidental that the other party’s Divine Ocean Realm Master came to attack at this point.

He knew it wouldn’t be easy for him to take Xiao Xinghe away. It was only the beginning, but the Pass Leader had snuck out of the hall.

“Team Leader.” Although Lin Yinxiu was innocent, she realised that something was off. Regardless, she was a Seventh-Order Real Lake Realm Master. She was innocent, not foolish.

“It’s fine,” Lu Ye replied dispassionately.

The Pass Leader had left the two of them here. Lu Ye understood what was on Che Zixiong’s mind. Since it was a thorny issue, he wasn’t willing to handle the matter. Anyway, someone who was willing to deal with the matter would show up.

“Let’s go,” Lu Ye said to Lin Yinxiu and left the hall.

After looking around, he intercepted a cultivator who seemed to be in a hurry. He cupped his fists and asked, “Fellow Cultivator, do you know if Xiao Xinghe of Blue Emperor City is in the Pass?”

“Are you looking for Xiao Xinghe?” The cultivator sized up Lu Ye and confirmed that he had never seen him before, so he was vigilant. “What’s the matter?”

“I’m from the Ministry of Laws. I’m here to carry out a task.”

The cultivator’s expression changed. “What did Brother Xiao do?”

Considering the cultivator’s attitude and how he addressed Xiao Xinghe, he was probably friends with the latter.

Xiao Xinghe was indeed in a difficult situation in Surging Waves Lake Pass as some people in power had targeted him. However, there were all sorts of people in this world. Some people obeyed their higher-ups and oppressed Xiao Xinghe as well. Some people would steer clear of the matter. Naturally, some people would sympathise with Xiao Xinghe and even defend him.

Although Liu Yuemei was powerful in Surging Waves Lake Pass, she couldn’t make everyone stay away from Xiao Xinghe. Therefore, when this cultivator heard that Lu Ye was from the Ministry of Laws, he kept his guard up.

“He did nothing.” Lu Ye shook his head. After some hesitation, he said, “Xiao Xinghe is my Senior Brother.”

“So, you’re from Blue Emperor City.” The cultivator misunderstood something again. He let out a sigh of relief and said, “In that case, come with me.”

“Thanks.”

They moved in a particular direction and soon arrived at a house.

“Does my Senior Brother live here?” Lu Ye looked around and frowned. There was no doubt it was a terrible location. Once the defence of Surging Waves Lake Pass was shattered, this area would be the first to be impacted. Moreover, Xiao Xinghe’s residence was much smaller than the houses Lu Ye had seen along the way.

“Brother Xiao is injured, so he’s supposedly recuperating now,” the cultivator said and flicked at the Void three times.

Since Xiao Xinghe was recuperating, the enchantment around his house must’ve been activated. Following the cultivator’s move, a light screen appeared as ripples spread.

“Is he badly injured?” Lu Ye asked grimly.

“You can say so. The other day, we launched an attack against Dark Moon Forest Pass, and many people were killed. Your Senior Brother was lucky to survive. He’s been recuperating for days, so he should be in a better state now.”

As he spoke, the enchantment was deactivated. The door opened and revealed a towering man with thick eyebrows and eagle-like eyes. The man’s face was pale as he looked at Lu Ye.

The man was none other than Xiao Xinghe. He looked at the cultivator who had brought Lu Ye here. “What’s wrong, Brother Wang?”

Cultivator Wang said, “Your Junior Brother is here to look for you. I only led the way for him.”

He pointed at Lu Ye.

“Junior Brother?” A puzzled Xiao Xinghe glanced at Lu Ye and Lin Yinxiu, seemingly not knowing who they were.

“What’s wrong? Don’t you know him, Brother Xiao?” Cultivator Wang became vigilant again as he stared furiously at Lu Ye. He seemed to think that Lu Ye was a terrible person.

Xiao Xinghe took a look at the saber at Lu Ye’s waist and realised something. Suddenly, he guffawed and said, “I know him, of course. Why are you here, Junior Brother?”

He had figured out Lu Ye’s identity.

As their eyes met, Lu Ye cupped his fists. “Greetings, Third Senior Brother!”

Xiao Xinghe took Lu Ye’s arms. “Since we’re from the same Sect, don’t be too formal with me.” He then stepped aside. “Come on in.”

Lu Ye nodded and entered the house with Lin Yinxiu.

“Thanks, Brother Wang,” Xiao Xinghe said to Cultivator Wang from the doorway.

“It was the least I could do.” Cultivator Wang waved his hand and looked around. When he saw that many people were secretly looking at them, he sighed. “You’d better recover sooner, Brother Xiao. Since you’ve shown up, the Pass Leader won’t let you have another peaceful day.”

If not for the fact that Xiao Xinghe was badly injured, he wouldn’t have had a chance to stay in the Pass and recuperate. Several days had passed since his return. Even if he hadn’t fully recovered, he would have to take part in the war again once Liu Yuemei gave an order. Otherwise, he would be punished for disobeying the Pass Leader’s order.

“I understand.”

After they talked for a bit more, Cultivator Wang left in a hurry. Although he wanted to befriend Xiao Xinghe and hated what some people in power had been doing, he was merely an ordinary soldier in the Pass. He could do nothing to change the situation.

Upon entering the house, Xiao Xinghe closed the door and glanced at Lu Ye with gratification. “You’re already a Real Lake Realm Master, brat!”

“Third Senior Brother.” Lu Ye formally saluted him again.

“I told you not to be overly formal with me!” Xiao Xinghe pretended to be angry with him before saying hospitably, “Come on. Have a seat.”

The house already looked small on the outside, and it was even narrower on the inside. Also, to make it easier for him to cultivate his power, Xiao Xinghe didn’t place any bed or table there. There was only one cushion.

“When did you join the Zhou Watch?” Xiao Xinghe asked after they were seated.

“Around four months ago.”

“It’s been quite a while… How is the Sect Master?”

“He’s in the pink. He went to Grand Sky City several days ago and had a heated conversation with his old friends…”

Although Lu Ye didn’t make it clear, Xiao Xinghe understood the underlying meaning. He laughed and said, “The Sect Master is still as energetic as ever. What about Senior Sister Shui Yuan?”

“She’s fine as well. Don’t worry about them, Third Senior Brother. The Sect Master isn’t in the Sect now, so the Second Senior Sister is in charge. When you have some time, you should go back and have a look.”

Xiao Xinghe nodded. “I’ve wasted many years away. I’m supposed to go back and have a look. I wonder if the Second Senior Sister will beat me up when she sees me.”

“That’s for sure. I won’t help you out by then.” Lu Ye nodded.

Xiao Xinghe smiled helplessly. Although it was their first time meeting each other, they felt close to each other. Lu Ye felt the affinity came naturally to them as they were from the same Sect. It was just like when he met Shui Yuan and Li Baxian for the first time on the Spirit Creek Battlefield.

“Have I seen you before, Little Junior Brother?” Xiao Xinghe suddenly appeared puzzled.

“Where do you think you saw me before, Third Senior Brother?” Lu Ye arched his brow.

Xiao Xinghe shook his head. “I have no idea. I supposedly have never seen you before, but I find you familiar.”

Lu Ye only smiled in response. Xiao Xinghe had seen Li Taibai before, so it was only natural that he found Lu Ye familiar.

“Oh, I’ve forgotten about the person beside you because I’ve been focused on talking to you. Who is she?” Xiao Xinghe landed a slap on his forehead as he finally recalled Lin Yinxiu, who had entered the house with Lu Ye.

“She’s my team member, Lin Yinxiu.” Lu Ye briefly introduced the woman.

The two of them saluted each other. A perplexed Xiao Xinghe asked, “Your team member?”

With a solemn expression, Lu Ye said, “I’m part of the Ministry of Laws now. Following the Commander’s order, I’ve come to Surging Waves Lake Pass to get you transferred to the Ministry of Laws.”

“The Ministry of Laws…” Xiao Xinghe was shocked.

It was a wonderful place. Although they would frequently face some danger when carrying out tasks, it wasn’t like there was no danger in the Passes. Surging Waves Lake Pass had enjoyed many peaceful years, but the war broke out all of a sudden. Following the war, many familiar faces were gone just like that.

Therefore, even though the mortality rate at the Ministry of Laws was high, many cultivators still scrambled to be part of it. Members of the Ministry of Laws were more intimidating than members of other Ministries.

When the cultivators of the Ministry of Laws wandered around, people would show them respect.

Naturally, Xiao Xinghe wanted to join the Ministry of Laws, but things looked unusual as Lu Ye had come all the way here to enlist him.

After giving it some thought, Xiao Xinghe figured out what happened and put on a smile. “I’m glad that your Commander treasures you, and you’re supposed to be cautious in everything you do. I’m not going to join your Ministry.”
