Although Xiao Xinghe was a straightforward person, he was also sensitive and intelligent. He had figured out what was going on through his brief conversation with Lu Ye.

It was thanks to Lu Ye that Xiao Xinghe could get transferred to the Ministry of Laws. He didn’t think he was powerful or talented enough to gain Qian Wudang’s favour.

Now, it seemed that Qian Wudang truly treasured Lu Ye. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have given him the right to select his members.

Xiao Xinghe was glad that Lu Ye wanted to do something for him, but he couldn’t be selfish.

Other people could easily leave Surging Waves Lake Pass, but it was extremely difficult for him to do so. Things would become troublesome if Lu Ye had to deal with that malicious woman.

Lu Ye said, “Don’t worry, Senior Brother. I won’t push my luck if I can’t achieve my goal. Please be patient. I’ll look for a chance and get you out of here.”

The key to taking Xiao Xinghe away from Surging Waves Lake Pass was whether the one in power was willing to let him go. It could be said that it was entirely up to Liu Yuemei to call the shots. If she insisted on making Xiao Xinghe stay and dismissing Qian Wudang’s request, there wouldn’t be a chance for Lu Ye to achieve his goal.

In that case, Lu Ye couldn’t be blamed for targeting the disciples of Sky Origin Clan. Most cultivators were reckless, so they would accidentally break the rules. Disciples of Sky Origin Clan were no exception.

Many incidents were only small mistakes that no one reported, so they went unpunished.

However, it would be a different story if they were targeted by someone from the Ministry of Laws. After all, everyone made mistakes. For example, there was once when Lu Ye and Nian Yuexian had been absent from Blue Flame Mountain Pass for two months. If they were targeted, they would be punished for being absent from duty. Even Nian Yuexian wouldn’t be spared.

Lu Ye felt that he had to memorise the Zhou Watch’s rules when he returned. They would come in handy in the future since he was part of the Ministry of Laws.

Xiao Xinghe nodded. “I’m relieved since you’ve said so.”

He could see that Lu Ye wasn’t a reckless person. He was most worried that Lu Ye was stubborn and determined to bring him out of this place. When that happened, the problem couldn’t be resolved.

Just then, someone was heard banging on the door from the outside. Lu Ye turned around with an icy gaze.

Usually, a cultivator wouldn’t be so rude when looking for someone. If the person in the house was on a retreat, it would be inappropriate to disturb him like this. When Cultivator Wang came here earlier, he only gently triggered the enchantment to inform Xiao Xinghe of his presence. It was up to Xiao Xinghe whether he wanted to see him.

However, someone was violently banging on the door this time, so it was apparent that the person was ill-intentioned.

It seemed that if the person weren’t wary of something, he would’ve broken the door and barged into the place.

Xiao Xinghe placated Lu Ye, saying, “Calm down, Junior Brother.”

He rose to his feet and opened the door, only to see an impatient-looking young man. He asked with a frown, “What’s the matter, Senior Brother Chen Ke?”

The young man named Chen Ke shot him a dismissive look and shifted his attention to Lu Ye and Lin Yinxiu.

“Get lost!” Chen Ke lifted his hand and pushed Xiao Xinghe away. His Spiritual Power showed that he was a Seventh-Order Real Lake Realm Master.

He directly barged into the house and looked condescendingly at Lu Ye. “Are you the one from the Ministry of Laws?”

Lu Ye slowly got to his feet and stared at him. “Yes.”

Chen Ke snorted. “The Pass Leader would like to see you. Come with me.”

“Are you talking about Pass Leader Liu?”

“Of course.”

Lu Ye thought that the other party was truly responsive. The news reached the woman not long after he arrived at this place.

It wasn’t surprising, though. After all, he was in Surging Waves Lake Pass, so it could be considered her territory. Coupled with the fact that she was a Divine Ocean Realm Master, there was no way she wasn’t aware of his presence.

Che Zixiong wasn’t willing to deal with Lu Ye’s request to enlist Xiao Xinghe, so he found an excuse and left in a hurry. Now that the person who could deal with the matter had shown up, Lu Ye was naturally pleased.

“Lead the way, please.”

A meaningful smile played on Chen Ke’s lips as he turned around and left the house before flying in a particular direction. Lu Ye and the others followed him.

An uneasy Xiao Xinghe whispered to Lu Ye, “Little Junior Brother, since you’ve come here for me, I’m sure you’re aware of the grudges Liu Yuemei has against our Sect. Although you have the Ministry of Laws’ protection, you have to be cautious in front of her. She’s just experienced the loss of a child, so she has become unreasonable. No one knows if she’ll do anything crazy.”

“I understand. Don’t worry, Senior Brother.” Lu Ye nodded.

Chen Ke soon led them to the hall where Lu Ye had visited. Che Zixiong was nowhere to be seen, but there was an inconsolable figure in the hall. She was none other than Liu Yuemei.

Certainly, Lu Ye remembered the woman vividly. After all, he was almost killed by the woman when he disguised himself as Li Taibai.

Unbeknownst to her, the Li Taibai she thought was dead was still alive and kicking. What was more, he even stood before her eyes now.

“They’re here, Pass Leader.” Chen Ke cupped his fists.

Liu Yuemei stood there in silence while staring icily at Lu Ye. Her eyes were filled with endless resentment and murderous intent. Without a warning, her immense aura as a Divine Ocean Realm Master spread across the hall.

Lu Ye, who had intended to salute her, felt tremendously pressured. His back was hunched, and his bones started cracking. Even though Xiao Xinghe wasn’t directly targeted, he was injured, after all. The repercussions caused him to grunt.

Lin Yinxiu was the least affected. She was more powerful than the two of them, and she wasn’t targeted like Lu Ye. However, her face still turned pale as she faced a Divine Ocean Realm Master’s pressure.

Time seemed to be flowing more slowly. As Lu Ye was facing immense pressure, his bones kept cracking, and his figure was forced to lower.

Although he knew Liu Yuemei would treat him harshly when he met her, he didn’t expect the woman to be this crazy. Just like what Xiao Xinghe had said, she had become unreasonable following the loss of her child. She was forcing Lu Ye to kneel.

Naturally, Lu Ye wouldn’t do that. Despite the pressure, he gritted his teeth and held on. After all, he represented the Ministry of Laws and was on a mission, so he didn’t think Liu Yuemei would dare to cross the line. Otherwise, it would be no different from disrespecting Qian Wudang.

Enduring the pressure, Lu Ye said slowly with difficulty, “Greetings, Pass Leader Liu! I’m Lu Yi Ye of the Ministry of Laws, and she’s my team member, Lin Yinxiu.”

The moment he finished speaking, the unbearable pressure around him disappeared. The abrupt disappearance of pressure caused the vitality in Lu Ye’s chest to undulate. His blood streamed towards his throat, and he almost sprayed it out.

It was the same case for Xiao Xinghe. As he grunted, blood streamed out from the corner of his mouth. His wounds had been irritated.

Lu Ye suddenly lifted his head and stared fixedly at Liu Yuemei. Despite the taste of blood in his mouth, he said, “I’ve heard a lot about you, Pass Leader Liu. You’re more intimidating and authoritative than I expected. I’ve finally had a taste of it.”

Liu Yuemei scoffed and turned around before gently sitting down on a chair behind the desk. Then, she said, “I’ve heard a lot about you too.”

“It’s my honour that you even know who I am, Madam.”

“Of course, I know who you are.” Liu Yuemei sneered with an icy expression. She never concealed her hostility against Lu Ye. “Why are you here, then?”

“The Commander has ordered me to come here and enlist Xiao Xinghe. He’ll be transferred to the Ministry of Laws. This is the Commander’s token.” Lu Ye stepped forward and presented the token.

Liu Yuemei didn’t have the intention of taking it while seated. Since she knew Lu Ye was in Surging Waves Lake Pass, she was naturally aware of his intention as well. She had only asked the obvious.

There was only a distance of a metre between them as Liu Yuemei stared at him and said impassively, “The Ministry of Laws has many powerful cultivators. Why would you want a weak cultivator in my Pass?”

Lu Ye kept the token and replied, “That’s up to you to consider. I’m merely executing the Commander’s order.”

He decided to push all the responsibilities to Qian Wudang at this point.

“Then go back and tell your Commander that my Pass is lacking manpower. Xiao Xinghe has performed well in a recent war, so I’ve decided to promote him. I’m afraid Commander Qian will be disappointed.”

“Alright,” Lu Ye replied and cupped his fists. “I’ll take my leave, then.”

With that, he turned around and left. A perplexed Lin Yinxiu quickly followed him.

Behind the desk, Liu Yuemei was startled. She didn’t expect Lu Ye to leave just like this. Initially, she thought Lu Ye had other moves to make her let Xiao Xinghe go.

Just as Lu Ye and Lin Yinxiu were about to step out of the hall, Liu Yuemei said from behind, “Wait a minute.”

Lu Ye stopped in his tracks and let out a breath, looking slightly relieved. Things were going smoothly for him.

He was worried that the woman wouldn’t call out to him. In that case, he wouldn’t have a way to get Xiao Xinghe out of there. Since she had stopped him, there was a glimmer of hope.

Still, it was merely a glimmer of hope. Lu Ye wasn’t certain if things would unfold according to his plan. After all, there were too many uncertainties.

In fact, he didn’t have to come here and enlist Xiao Xinghe. Since Lin Yinxiu was his subordinate, he could tell her to do that for him.

Because of Liu Yuemei, Lu Ye’s presence in the Pass would make things complicated. Still, he decided to come. Only when things became complicated would he have a chance to take Xiao Xinghe away.

It was pointless to ask Lin Yinxiu to come here and execute the order. Liu Yuemei would never let Xiao Xinghe go.

Lu Ye turned around and asked, “Is there anything else, Pass Leader Liu?”

Liu Yuemei, whose expression had been icy, suddenly put on a smile, though the smile looked eerie. “I’ve heard a lot about you, Lu Yi Ye of the Crimson Blood Sect. You were famous on both the Spirit Creek Battlefield and the Cloud River Battlefield. Someone like you shouldn’t waste your time at the Ministry of Laws. Why don’t you come to my Pass and destroy the enemies instead? What do you say?”

Lu Ye was there to enlist Xiao Xinghe, but Liu Yuemei wanted to recruit him instead, which was ridiculous.

Certainly, Lu Ye could easily guess why Liu Yuemei wanted him to stay in her Pass. Despite his calm expression, he was relieved deep within. [The fish has taken the bait.]
