F1: The Speed Legend

”Lewis, Kai has successfully overtaken Max,” Bono relayed the critical update immediately. ”However, the FIA is currently investigating the incident, and we are waiting on their final ruling. Regardless of the outcome, we need you to slightly escalate your rhythm. We absolutely cannot afford to fall within his DRS striking distance. If he gets close enough, he might completely abandon caution and launch a massive, do-or-die assault.”

The underlying logic was incredibly simple. If Kai was ultimately slapped with a time penalty, exactly like Verstappen, whether it was five seconds or ten seconds, he would undoubtedly roll the dice. He would throw absolutely everything he had into attempting a high-risk, desperate overtake on Hamilton. Once he cleared Hamilton, he would utilize his own rhythm to run entirely flat-out, desperately attempting to pry open a massive gap to neutralize the time penalty.

Assuming the rain didn’t miraculously arrive to save them, this was the exact aggressive strategy Mercedes-Benz would deploy if their positions were reversed. They possessed absolutely zero doubt that Kai was fully capable of executing it.

Therefore, Mercedes-Benz absolutely needed to maintain an iron-fisted grip on the overall rhythm of the race. They had to violently extinguish all potential threats before they could even materialize. They needed to strike first. Preemptive aggression!

Hamilton’s breath hitched slightly in his throat. That annoying, un-killable ghost again. In Monaco, the entire weekend was theoretically dictated entirely by Qualifying. He had genuinely believed that after securing Pole Position, he wouldn’t have to worry about Kai’s terrifying presence for the remainder of the weekend. It was supposed to be an effortless Sunday afternoon cruise from Pole to the checkered flag. Yet, here he was, once again hearing that specific, cursed name echoing in his earpiece.

But it ultimately didn’t matter.

Regardless of who was in his mirrors, he would crush them with absolute, undeniable authority. For Niki.

”Copy that.” Hamilton violently suppressed his chaotic thoughts and delivered a crisp, professional response.

The FIA officially announced a formal investigation into the collision at Turn 10.

It wasn’t just the stewards; the broadcast booth was continuously looping slow-motion replays of the incident from every conceivable angle, while simultaneously playing Verstappen’s profanity-laced radio outbursts. The entire paddock was obsessively analyzing the exact same footage.

”Without a shadow of a doubt, Verstappen is the primary aggressor here,” Crofty stated with absolute conviction. Regardless of the analytical framework applied, the conclusion remained identical.

”Verstappen had completely, undeniably lost the defensive line. Yet, he stubbornly refused to yield the position, attempting a highly illegal, desperate block that directly caused an entirely unnecessary collision.”

”Although the incident appeared incredibly chaotic in real-time, there is absolutely zero ambiguity here. It is glaringly obvious. The FIA stewards shouldn’t experience any difficulty reaching a verdict.”

”As for Kai’s performance. Wow! Absolutely robust! Unwavering! And terrifyingly composed!”

”It wasn’t just his handling of the initial collision. His reaction to the subsequent, massive crisis was what truly set him apart. His execution was flawless. He utilized completely incomprehensible car control to wrestle the chassis back into line and successfully defended his hard-earned position! Verstappen’s performance was equally phenomenal, arguably even breathtaking. But that only serves to highlight Kai’s brilliance. Operating under massive, lethal pressure, his ability to execute lightning-fast, dynamic adaptations was unparalleled. In a brutal, instinct-driven collision between two absolute prodigies, Kai successfully emerged victorious.”

”An astronomical amount of action was violently compressed into that single, fleeting moment at Turn 10.”

”This was the very first genuine, head-to-head confrontation between Kai and Verstappen this season. It is glaringly obvious that Kai has once again utilized undeniable, concrete actions to validate his status. He possesses phenomenal courage, elite tactical intelligence, and absolutely breathtaking talent!”

”And we have the official ruling from the FIA.”

The Number 33 car was deemed guilty of an illegal defensive maneuver and causing an avoidable collision. Five-second time penalty.

Furthermore, the penalty didn’t end there. Following the race, Verstappen would also receive three penalty points on his FIA Super License.

Yes!

Hubert aggressively pumped his fist into the air, letting out a loud shout of triumph. Justice hadn’t been delayed this time. The FIA had successfully delivered the correct ruling.

However, his hot-blooded passion was still boiling over. This phenomenal, breathtaking overtake was undoubtedly going to be immortalized as one of the most spectacular, iconic moments in the recent history of the Monaco Grand Prix.

Timing, elite technique, sheer audacity, raw courage, and absolute decisiveness. Every single element had been executed flawlessly. A completely untelegraphed, sudden ambush was followed immediately by brutal, bayonets-drawn close-quarters combat, culminating in a display of incomprehensible, limit-shattering car control. In the span of a single, microscopic corner complex, the absolute, transcendent allure of Formula 1 had been put on full display.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Hubert let out a passionate, full-throated roar. Any lingering trace of his usual shy, reserved demeanor had completely evaporated.

He spun around, grabbing Zhou Guanyu, pulling him into the wild, ecstatic celebration.

Initially, Zhou Guanyu had been slightly reserved, maintaining a polite, professional posture. But seeing the entire Ferrari pit garage erupt into massive, unified cheers and raised fists, he finally couldn’t suppress his massive smile. He eagerly joined the chaotic fray, cheering alongside them.

The entire world seemed to shake with massive, joyous energy. It felt as though even the typically tranquil surface of the Mediterranean Sea was churning with excited waves.

Verstappen was consumed by blinding, irrational fury. ”What the [BEEP]! He deliberately rammed into me!”

Lambiase desperately attempted to de-escalate the situation. ”Max, maintain focus. We will appeal.”

However, Verstappen was completely incapable of reigning in his anger. ”It was HIM! Did you [BEEP]ing hear me?! He deliberately rammed his chassis directly into mine! And then he intentionally blocked my exit trajectory! He should be forced to surrender the position immediately! He is the one who should be penalized! Are their brains completely stuffed with [BEEP]ing garbage?! How can they be blind to such glaringly obvious facts?!”

”What the [BEEP] is the FIA even doing?!”

Verstappen was rapidly approaching the absolute limit of acceptable broadcasting standards. If he continued down this path, his radio transmissions would be completely censored. It wasn’t just Lambiase. Horner was forced to personally intervene to regain control. ”The race is absolutely not over. We still possess the pace to reclaim the position. The time penalty is manageable.”

Verstappen remained silent for a brief, agonizing pause before finally seeming to regain a sliver of composure. But it was merely a temporary illusion. ”[BEEP]!” A fresh, relentless stream of highly creative profanities erupted from his mouth, significantly more venomous than his previous outburst.

It was a guaranteed certainty that the remainder of Verstappen’s radio communications would absolutely not be broadcast on the live world feed.

However, the ruling was final. The damage was done. Complaining was entirely useless.

It wasn’t just the Red Bull pit wall. The Mercedes-Benz pit wall was experiencing a highly similar, albeit significantly colder, reaction.

The exact, catastrophic nightmare scenario they had been dreading had just violently materialized.

In truth, after personally experiencing the brutal reality of the Singapore Grand Prix last season, the entire paddock had reached a terrifying consensus. Kai, having literally forged his foundational racing skills on public roads, possessed a profound, utterly unique understanding of street circuits. His terrifying ability to fully exploit his surroundings within incredibly narrow, claustrophobic confines to violently shatter defensive deadlocks was arguably the most brilliant facet of his massive talent.

Without a shadow of a doubt, Kai was the undisputed, newly crowned ’King of the Streets.’

Witnessing him deploy those exact same terrifying skills here in Monaco shouldn’t have been a massive surprise.

However, when the spectacular reality actually played out right in front of their eyes, the visceral shock was still utterly overwhelming.

To be brutally honest, compared to dealing with Kai, Wolff infinitely preferred dealing with Verstappen.

Verstappen was a lunatic, that was an undeniable fact. But his particular brand of lunacy was somewhat predictable. His actions followed a recognizable, albeit aggressive, pattern. Kai was an entirely different breed of monster. Not only was he fundamentally impossible to predict, but he was also terrifyingly difficult to defend against.

His mere existence on the asphalt was a massive, lethal threat.

Exactly like a fishbone lodged deep in the throat.

Taking a deep, shuddering breath, Wolff violently suppressed his scattered, chaotic thoughts. He acutely realized that the atmosphere inside the Mercedes-Benz garage had become incredibly heavy and oppressive.

Kai had merely overtaken Verstappen. Had that single action genuinely terrified his entire elite organization?

Wolff keyed the radio. ”Lewis. Maintain your optimal rhythm. For Niki.”

A single, powerful sentence. It was more than enough.

This year’s Monaco Grand Prix was fundamentally different from any other race. ’For Niki Lauda’ wasn’t simply an empty corporate slogan. It was their absolute conviction, their ultimate inspiration, and their deepest source of strength. Mercedes-Benz was absolutely, definitively going to win this race.

For Niki Lauda.

Lap 34. The chaotic storm raged once again. The running order experienced another massive, violent reshuffle.

Hamilton, Kai, and Verstappen now occupied the top three positions. Bottas was still languishing in P4.

Furthermore, the chaos wasn’t restricted to the leaders. The entire midfield had been completely, violently scrambled.

Grosjean, Albon, Sainz, Kvyat, Gasly, and Norris now occupied the remaining points-paying positions. It was an absolutely mind-boggling order.

How on Earth had Grosjean managed to bypass Albon? When exactly had Kvyat and Gasly clawed their way into the points? And wait, where was Ricciardo?

Ricciardo, driving the Renault, was currently running in P11. Absolutely no one knew exactly when or how it happened, but he had somehow been brutally shoved completely out of the points.

People constantly, endlessly complained that Monaco was agonizingly boring and devoid of genuine racing spectacle. Clearly, the Goddess of Destiny had heard those complaints and decided to personally grant their wishes. She had violently flipped the entire board, orchestrating a wildly unpredictable, completely chaotic Grand Prix on the streets of Monte Carlo. Even if you maintained absolute, hyper-focused vigilance, it was practically impossible to keep up with the frantic, constantly shifting narrative.

So, what exactly was going to happen next?

Would the heavy, ominous clouds finally unleash a massive, torrential downpour, completely shattering the remaining equilibrium? Would everyone be forced to restart from absolute zero? Would Monaco violently mutate into another Interlagos, sucking every single team and driver into a massive, apocalyptic storm? Would this spectacular, highly entertaining race devolve entirely into a chaotic circus, providing pure, unadulterated entertainment to the death?

For the very first time, Bono leaned back slightly, stepping out from beneath the protective awning of the pit wall to look directly up at the sky.

Was it actually, finally preparing to rain?

...

Suffocating heat. Oppressive pressure. Restless, surging energy.

The massive, dense cumulonimbus clouds were continuously stacking, slowly, methodically pressing downward. The dark, ominous mass gathered directly overhead, hanging incredibly low above the golden terraces of the VIP sections. It felt as though you could simply stand on your tiptoes and physically touch the heavy gray underbelly of the storm.

Yet, infuriatingly, there wasn’t a single whisper of a breeze. The air was practically stagnant, exactly like a thick, viscous mixture of egg whites slowly congealing after being vigorously whisked.

According to the official meteorological forecasts, the probability of rain hadn’t decreased. But it also hadn’t increased. It remained stubbornly locked at 90%. It simply hung there, a massive, terrifying unknown that was impossible to ignore. Every single team in the paddock absolutely had to remain on high alert, fully prepared for a sudden, catastrophic downpour.

Today’s race had already been spectacularly chaotic. If the chaos continued to violently escalate, absolutely no one would be genuinely surprised.

It wasn’t just Bono. Personnel across every single pit wall were constantly looking up, attempting to utilize their own naked eyes to gauge the weather. The actual data provided by the meteorological radar was simply too sparse and inconclusive to form a definitive judgment.

Perhaps the human eye was actually slightly more reliable in this highly specific scenario?

For a brief, agonizing moment, they honestly weren’t sure if they were hallucinating. Because the storm clouds were growing increasingly thicker and denser, resembling massive, dark cotton candy. If this continued, it felt as though the clouds were going to literally descend and physically touch the top of the pit wall awnings.

So, was it actually going to rain, or was it just an elaborate, terrifying bluff?

It wasn’t just the pit walls. The elite VIPs occupying the golden terraces and the passionate fans packing the main grandstands were also becoming increasingly restless. One by one, they began looking nervously up at the sky.

Unfortunately, there were no actual prophets present. Everyone was desperately analyzing the sky, but absolutely no one could offer a definitive, reliable prediction. The constant, hushed whispers were filled with wild, frantic speculation regarding the probability of rain and the potential, catastrophic variables it could inject into the race. Everyone was allowing their imaginations to run completely wild.

At this specific moment, the restless, buzzing energy permeating the entire circuit was glaringly obvious. The suffocating, hyper-focused tension that had gripped the venue for nearly an hour finally began to dissipate. The collective attention span was slowly beginning to fracture.

The underlying reason was incredibly simple.

The Monaco Grand Prix had officially entered a transitional, highly stable phase. Car after car settled into their own specific rhythms, continuously, methodically churning out laps. And that was literally all that was happening.

The critical issue wasn’t simply the lack of aggressive pursuits or bayonets-drawn dogfights. It was the fact that nearly every single car on the grid was operating at a nearly identical, monotonous pace. There were no sudden, aggressive pace escalations. There were no complex, psychological containment strategies being deployed. The brutal, high-stakes political warfare on the pit walls and the lethal, invisible undercurrents on the asphalt all seemed to have completely vanished. The race had devolved into a hypnotic, sleep-inducing parade.

It felt exactly as though the drivers had collectively realized that today’s race had already featured far too much chaos. As if orchestrated by a silent agreement, they all simultaneously shifted into an ultra-conservative survival mode, actively attempting to collectively hypnotize the entire global audience.

From Lap 1 all the way to Lap 34, the race had been a continuous string of explosive climaxes and catastrophic variables. Every single microsecond had operated at absolute maximum velocity. It was exactly like watching a ballerina executing a breathtaking, dizzying sequence of fouetté turns. However, there were still a massive forty-four laps remaining before the checkered flag. The race hadn’t even reached the halfway point. This specific iteration of the Monaco Grand Prix was absolutely, fundamentally abnormal. Both the teams and the drivers desperately needed to temporarily de-escalate the tension, allow the chassis to cool, and meticulously plot their next major strategic maneuvers.

This current, eerie lull was simply the necessary incubation period for the next massive storm.

Kai was absolutely no exception.

He hadn’t hesitated, and he hadn’t wasted time with elaborate setups. He launched a direct, brutal assault on Verstappen, explicitly aiming to catch him completely off guard. Neither Verstappen nor the Red Bull pit wall had anticipated the sudden, violent ambush. Verstappen’s defensive posture had been slightly too aggressive and frantic. When caught unprepared, he was prone to exposing microscopic vulnerabilities. Kai had flawlessly, ruthlessly exploited those exact vulnerabilities.

However, Hamilton was an entirely different beast. He was an absolute, unparalleled master of defensive racecraft. His tactical lines were flawlessly meticulous. He remained terrifyingly composed in the face of massive crises. He possessed the elite capability to maintain absolute, icy rationality regardless of the sudden variables thrown at him. The last driver capable of legitimately pushing Hamilton to the absolute breaking point and forcing a catastrophic error on the asphalt was likely Nico Rosberg.

Furthermore, Kai’s successful, highly aggressive ambush on Verstappen had undoubtedly triggered massive alarm bells at Mercedes-Benz. The situation had just become exponentially more difficult.

In Monaco, genuine overtaking opportunities are astronomically rare. If you blindly, recklessly launch an attack and squander a golden opportunity, you will likely completely, irreversibly destroy your entire race.

Moreover, Kai absolutely hadn’t forgotten the lethal threat looming directly behind him. Although there was currently a two-second gap separating him from Verstappen, the distance simply refused to expand. That meant Verstappen hadn’t lost his rhythm. He was still lurking aggressively, waiting patiently for the perfect microsecond to strike. Combine that with the constant, highly disruptive presence of backmarker traffic, and the current equilibrium was nothing more than a fragile, highly volatile illusion. The slightest reckless maneuver could trigger a massive, chaotic chain reaction that would violently consume his entire race.

All his previous agonizing efforts would be completely wasted.

Therefore, absolute, lethal patience was the only metric that truly mattered right now. Regardless of the surrounding chaos, Kai still possessed a massive tire advantage. He firmly held the absolute control over his own rhythm.

Consequently, the Monaco Grand Prix officially entered its absolute calmest, most tranquil phase since the red lights went out. Not only the leading pack, but the midfield clusters were also operating with eerie, uneventful stability. Although minor, localized friction and microscopic incidents occurred, they were ultimately nothing more than tiny ripples in a massive pond. They completely failed to awaken the increasingly drowsy audience.

Lap 40. Lap 45. Lap 50. The race continued its methodical, monotonous progression. Describing it makes it seem agonizingly long, but in reality, it was less than thirty minutes of track time. However, when contrasted against the explosive, chaotic madness of the opening thirty-four laps, this uneventful stretch felt excruciatingly, painfully elongated.

Lap 55. Kai was the very first to detect the microscopic anomaly.

”Pierre, is there a quantifiable fluctuation in Hamilton’s single-lap rhythm?” Kai had captured a tiny, highly specific detail.

Pierre Borreipaire froze. He had maintained absolute, hyper-focused vigilance the entire time. He hadn’t stopped monitoring Hamilton and Verstappen’s telemetry for a single second. How could he possibly have missed a massive fluctuation in pace?

Despite his initial shock, Borreipaire diligently verified the data. ”Negative. I repeat, negative. Why? Did you observe something highly specific on the track?”

Kai replied, ”A moment ago, entering the harbor section, Hamilton came terrifyingly close to binning it into the wall. He literally scraped the barrier. Furthermore, this is the third time he’s suffered a massive moment at completely different corners within the past two laps.”

Hamilton’s rhythm stability was currently unparalleled across the entire grid. If he desired to do so, he was fully capable of maintaining a perfectly flat, robotic single-lap rhythm all the way to the checkered flag.

In other words, when Hamilton was operating in clean air, unchallenged in the lead, he very rarely experienced catastrophic fluctuations in car control.

Yet, the microscopic errors were occurring. Once or twice was entirely excusable. They weren’t machines; they were human beings made of flesh and blood. Microscopic errors were an inherent part of the sport. But three massive moments within the span of two laps?

Something was catastrophically wrong.

Borreipaire re-confirmed his data. Hamilton’s ultimate lap times remained perfectly stable.

Kai’s analytical brain immediately processed the information. The stable lap times were merely the final result. Hamilton’s visible, erratic struggles with the chassis were the underlying cause.

Could this mean that the Mercedes-Benz chassis was currently suffering from a highly specific, degrading mechanical issue? Was Hamilton being forced to utilize elite, highly aggressive driving techniques to artificially compensate for the time lost due to the failing machinery, simply to maintain his established pace? But operating under those extreme conditions was exactly like dancing on the edge of a razor blade. It required constantly, aggressively pushing the absolute limits of the chassis, which was the actual, underlying reason Hamilton was experiencing these terrifying moments.

Kai understood this specific, agonizing dynamic better than absolutely anyone else on the grid. He had been forced to drive exactly like that in every single race this season.

So, had the supposedly bulletproof, ultra-reliable W10 finally developed a catastrophic flaw?

Kai immediately relayed his highly analytical hypothesis back to the pit wall. The Ferrari garage instantly erupted into frantic, hyper-focused activity. It wasn’t just Borreipaire. Mekies, Clear, and the entire engineering team immediately began aggressively scrubbing through the available telemetry and visual data.

Exactly as predicted.

”Kai, we strongly suspect that Hamilton’s front wing sustained microscopic damage due to a light scrape against the barriers. This aerodynamic imbalance is actively forcing him to constantly, aggressively adjust his turn-in points. Reviewing the high-definition broadcast feed, the structural damage isn’t glaringly obvious to the naked eye, but his corner-entry behavior is undeniably, highly erratic.”

Borreipaire delivered the incredibly positive news. Kai’s analytical hypothesis had been flawlessly validated.

”Exactly how severe is the aerodynamic degradation?” Kai demanded further clarification.

”It’s not currently catastrophic,” Borreipaire replied. ”However, it is a compounding issue. Unless he pits to replace the wing, the problem is absolutely fundamentally unfixable.”

”Copy that.” Kai nodded slightly. ”In that case, let us graciously offer some assistance and actively accelerate the degradation process.”

A damaged front wing requiring constant, aggressive adjustments to turn-in points carried a massive, highly predictable penalty. Exponentially accelerated front tire wear.

The W10’s optimal tire operating window was massively, terrifyingly superior to every other chassis on the grid. So far this season, Mercedes-Benz had literally never encountered a scenario involving severe, catastrophic tire degradation.

Monaco was officially their very first exposure to this specific nightmare.

For Mercedes-Benz, experiencing this crisis for the first time in Monaco was actually a massive stroke of luck. In Monaco, tire degradation wasn’t typically a fatal flaw. They simply needed to rely on flawless positioning and defensive racing lines to secure the victory. The tire wear was undeniably a massive headache, but it wasn’t severe enough to completely destroy their overarching race strategy.

Therefore, Kai’s immediate objective was to slowly, methodically apply psychological pressure. There was absolutely no need for frantic, desperate lunges. He simply needed to incrementally, relentlessly tighten the screws. He needed to make Hamilton viscerally, agonizingly aware of his degrading tires. He needed to plunge Mercedes-Benz into a state of profound, agonizing suffering, trapping them in an inescapable, impossible dilemma where every single option was terrible.

Exactly like a dull, rusty knife slowly, methodically sawing through flesh.

...

The pressure had finally arrived.

It wasn’t suffocatingly tight. It wasn’t blisteringly hot. It wasn’t sharply aggressive. And it wasn’t overwhelmingly massive. Yet, it was undeniably, physically present.

Exactly like a horrific clown on Halloween.

On the surface, it appeared completely harmless. It wore a massive, painted-on smile, happily dancing and singing amidst the chaotic, joyful parade. For people who suffered from a deep-rooted, primal fear of clowns, it might even seem strangely, unsettlingly friendly. The loud, infectious laughter of the massive crowd served to temporarily mask the deep, psychological terror, allowing them to momentarily forget the horrific nightmares that plagued them in the dead of night.

However, every single time they turned their head, the clown was standing right there. It was absolutely un-killable. Regardless of where they walked, regardless of how massive the crowd became, it followed them exactly like an inescapable shadow. They weren’t even sure if they were hallucinating, but every single time they looked back, the clown seemed to be standing just a fraction of an inch closer. Their psychological safe space was being slowly, methodically devoured.

The Number 22 Ferrari was exactly that terrifying clown.

Lap 56. Lap 57. Lap 58.

Hamilton was absolutely, one hundred percent certain that Kai was doing this intentionally. He was slowly, methodically closing the gap. Unhurried, completely devoid of panic. Exactly like a predator sadistically toying with its prey. He would occasionally, aggressively poke his nose out in the rearview mirrors, utilizing a mocking, playful posture to generate a massive spike of psychological terror, yet he absolutely refused to actually launch a genuine attack.

Infuriatingly, his own pit wall completely refused to believe him. Or perhaps, it wasn’t that they didn’t believe him. It was that.

”Lewis, maintain focus. We still possess absolute control of the race.” Bono desperately attempted to soothe Hamilton’s fraying nerves. They had collaborated for years. Bono understood Hamilton’s psychological profile perfectly. Hamilton was incredibly composed, deeply experienced, and possessed the massive, unshakeable aura of a champion. He wasn’t easily rattled. But if an opponent actually managed to burrow under his skin and genuinely trigger his insecurities, Hamilton possessed highly specific, highly volatile psychological vulnerabilities.

Nico Rosberg understood Hamilton’s vulnerabilities intimately. That was precisely why Rosberg had always possessed the terrifying ability to effortlessly trigger Hamilton’s blinding rage.

Bono desperately hoped Kai wouldn’t become another Rosberg.

A heavy knot of profound frustration blocked Hamilton’s chest. ”Bono, I am explicitly telling you, he is aggressively escalating his rhythm. It’s exactly the same dynamic as Shanghai. But simultaneously, it’s completely different. He is operating with terrifying, highly suspicious stealth. He is meticulously plotting something. He is running a massive, complex calculation. He has absolutely, one hundred percent deduced exactly what is wrong with our car.”

”Copy that, Lewis,” Bono replied calmly. ”You are performing spectacularly right now. Maintain your current rhythm. Strictly defend your racing line. You are fully capable of keeping him trapped behind you.”

Hamilton’s voice cracked. ”This damn front wing! I am fundamentally incapable of keeping him trapped behind me, Bono!”

The crushing, suffocating pressure had been methodically accumulating. His chest was completely saturated with highly volatile fuel. For this entire race, no, for this entire season, Hamilton had been fiercely, desperately suppressing his frustration. But this weekend was fundamentally different. Hamilton completely lost his battle for composure. His emotions violently erupted. It was a highly rare, terrifying moment of absolute loss of control.

Bono knew with absolute certainty that Hamilton was correct. The Number 44 car’s leading advantage had slowly, agonizingly shrunk from a comfortable 2.007 seconds. The gap was currently sitting at a highly vulnerable 1.185 seconds.

On one front, it was undeniably true that Kai was slowly, methodically applying massive psychological pressure. On the other front, Hamilton’s own chassis was rapidly losing pace, becoming increasingly unstable and terrifyingly difficult to control.

Bono maintained his icy, professional composure. ”Lewis, the driver in your rearview mirrors is absolutely not Nelson Piquet. Continue to push.”

Hamilton blinked inside his visor. ”Are you seriously making jokes right now?”

However, the radio channel remained dead silent. There was absolutely no response.

Hamilton couldn’t help himself. A genuine, relaxed smile finally broke across his face.

It was a small, highly calculated pit-wall joke.

Nelson Piquet, the legendary three-time World Champion, had privately, repeatedly expressed profound, open disdain for Hamilton. His comments frequently included highly offensive, deeply discriminatory insults and vicious personal attacks. This toxic dynamic was absolutely no secret within the paddock. Generally speaking, talking trash behind someone’s back was simply an unpleasant reality. But unfortunately, during the Monaco Grand Prix weekend, Piquet’s toxic comments had been directly overheard by Mercedes-Benz team personnel. The situation had rapidly escalated into a massive, highly public screaming match, becoming an incredibly ugly, highly embarrassing spectacle.

When the news eventually reached Hamilton’s ears, he simply replied with absolute, icy indifference. ”Who is Nelson Piquet?”

Obviously, he knew perfectly well who Piquet was. It was simply a brilliantly devastating, utterly dismissive counter-attack. The icy response had successfully restored the laughter and the morale within the Mercedes-Benz garage.

First Lauda, then Piquet. This year’s Monaco Grand Prix was completely saturated with massive, explosive controversies before the cars even hit the track. And the actual race itself had devolved into an absolute, chaotic nightmare.

Bono’s perfectly timed, highly specific joke successfully diffused the immediate crisis. Hamilton temporarily regained his hyper-focused concentration, dedicating one hundred percent of his mental energy to flawlessly defending his racing line.

However, the renewed focus lasted for a mere two minutes.

Hamilton rapidly, viscerally remembered exactly how terrifyingly difficult Kai was to manage. The gap between the two cars had shrunk to a highly vulnerable 1.1 or 1.2 seconds. Kai was perfectly positioned to massively escalate the pressure, yet he stubbornly refused.

Instead, Kai meticulously hovered just outside the DRS activation window. He entirely refused to subject his chassis to the devastating, turbulent dirty air generated by the Mercedes. He simply maintained a constant, agonizing presence precisely one second behind Hamilton. He was a permanent, terrifying fixture in Hamilton’s rearview mirrors. He never actually launched an attack, but the exact second Hamilton attempted to increase his pace to pry open a safe gap, that scarlet blur immediately, effortlessly closed the distance, staying glued to his tail exactly like an inescapable shadow.

The underlying strategic objective was glaringly obvious.

Kai was simply, methodically applying relentless pressure. The pressure didn’t need to be massively aggressive or violently intense. It merely needed to be sufficiently constant to make Hamilton feel profoundly, viscerally uncomfortable.

Furthermore, Kai was utilizing his massive, seventeen-lap tire advantage to effortlessly maintain his rhythm. Regardless of whether it was Hamilton struggling in front of him, or Verstappen desperately chasing from behind, his opponents were the ones currently trapped in a state of frantic, agonizing suffering.

To compound the nightmare, Hamilton’s front wing was damaged, causing his front tire degradation to rapidly, catastrophically accelerate. Not only was his mechanical grip wildly fluctuating, but his optimal corner-entry points were becoming increasingly unstable and terrifyingly unpredictable. He was constantly forced to execute massive, high-risk defensive maneuvers, frequently hovering millimeters away from binning it into the wall just to maintain his racing line.

One lap. Five laps. Ten laps. The race still possessed a massive amount of time remaining. Kai possessed more than enough runway to meticulously construct a massive, elaborate trap, slowly, agonizingly pushing Hamilton toward the absolute edge of a cliff.

Exactly like slowly boiling a frog alive. Kai possessed absolutely zero need to panic or rush. He merely needed to maintain his methodical, relentless pursuit. But Hamilton’s ultimate chances of survival were being slowly, violently extinguished.

The situation was incredibly, terrifyingly, genuinely agonizingly difficult.

The ultimate, catastrophic problem was this. Hamilton fully realized he was trapped in a massive crisis, yet he was completely, hopelessly powerless to alter his fate. He was literally just meat waiting on the chopping block.

The rain!

When exactly was that terrifying 90% probability of rain going to finally materialize?

Trapped in this agonizing, inescapable dilemma, the sudden arrival of rain would actually act as a massive, miraculous lifeline for Mercedes-Benz. Whether they chose to dive into the pits for wet tires, which would allow them to simultaneously replace the damaged front wing, or if they stubbornly chose to remain out on the track, relying entirely on Hamilton’s elite car control to defend the racing line in treacherous conditions, Kai’s massive, terrifying tire advantage would be completely, instantly neutralized. Hamilton would finally secure the crucial breathing room he desperately needed.

In other words, Mercedes-Benz’s ultimate destiny was no longer in their own hands.

Letting out a long, heavy exhale, Hamilton finally voiced his complaint. He completely failed to mask his profound frustration. ”Bono, I honestly have absolutely no idea what data you are looking at on those computer screens, but we absolutely, desperately need a miracle right now.”

”Copy that,” Bono replied. ”I am standing right here with you.”

For Hamilton, the current situation was genuinely, profoundly catastrophic. In a twist of brutal, agonizing irony, the supposedly bulletproof W10 was facing its very first massive, existential crisis of the season in this highly specific, utterly unique race. Even in Melbourne, even in Shanghai, Hamilton had absolutely never appeared this profoundly ragged and desperate. The blazing inferno in his chest was terrifyingly close to completely losing control.

However, Mercedes-Benz’s agonizing nightmare was absolute, unadulterated music to Ferrari’s ears.

For Kai, a race that had initially appeared entirely devoid of genuine overtaking opportunities was slowly, miraculously beginning to reveal microscopic slivers of possibility.

It was important to remember that Ferrari’s Monaco weekend had also been an absolute, unmitigated disaster. Leclerc’s heartbreaking retirement was a catastrophic, devastating conclusion they absolutely had not anticipated.

But now, a single ray of brilliant sunlight had finally pierced through the endless, suffocating gloom. Kai remained entirely free of panic or impatience. He was fully prepared to ruthlessly, flawlessly exploit this incredibly hard-earned, golden opportunity.

Opportunities are exclusively reserved for those who are meticulously prepared to seize them.

Synthesizing all the current variables, it was undeniably true that Kai had successfully seized the ultimate strategic initiative. But when facing off against the combined, terrifying might of Mercedes-Benz and Lewis Hamilton, absolutely nothing was ever simple.

Airtight!

Exactly as Ricciardo had brilliantly, flawlessly neutralized Vettel last season, Hamilton was currently unleashing his entire, massive arsenal of elite defensive techniques. He was utilizing absolutely every single weapon at his disposal.

Kai remained glued to Hamilton’s gearbox, but he fundamentally failed to discover even the most microscopic, millimeter-wide opening. Hamilton was defending his racing line with absolute, terrifying precision. His defense was vastly more meticulous, vastly more robust than Ricciardo’s performance in Singapore. He was fully, brilliantly exploiting the highly specific, claustrophobic characteristics of the Monaco circuit. Adopting a posture of absolute, tyrannical dominance, he violently sealed off every single conceivable attacking trajectory.

Experience, elite technique, sheer willpower, and absolute, terrifying focus. He was completely, utterly flawless.

His performance was absolutely perfect.

And even if it wasn’t mathematically perfect, it was undeniably an absolute, top-tier display of World Championship defense.

Hamilton was putting his unparalleled defensive capabilities on full display. Exactly like a surgeon wielding a scalpel, he meticulously deconstructed the Monte Carlo circuit, executing a completely airtight, impenetrable blockade.

When factoring in the terrifying reality that he was operating a chassis with a damaged front wing, his performance became truly, utterly incomprehensible.

Naturally, there were massive fluctuations, and he was absorbing terrifying risks. Whenever Kai closed the gap, it became glaringly obvious that Hamilton was constantly, desperately adjusting his corner-entry points, desperately searching for a more stable mid-corner rhythm. To achieve this, he was frequently forced to engage in a terrifying, high-speed game of chicken against Monaco’s unforgiving concrete barriers during the exit phase. It looked exactly like a lethal tango with the Grim Reaper.

However, Hamilton wasn’t operating blindly. He possessed a massive psychological crutch. He knew with absolute certainty that Kai remained stubbornly trapped just over one second behind him, completely unable to breach the DRS activation window. Therefore, Kai was mathematically incapable of launching an immediate, high-speed assault. That microscopic, one-second buffer zone was Hamilton’s sole, agonizingly small breathing space. And within that tiny, suffocating gap, he continuously stretched, adapted, and fought with absolutely everything he had. He held absolutely nothing back, putting his entire, legendary skillset on full display.

Kai possessed absolutely zero genuine opportunities to attack.

In the span of a single, chaotic season, Kai had already faced off against an incredibly diverse array of elite defensive styles. Alonso’s seasoned, cunning trickery. Bottas’s rock-solid, methodical stability. Ricciardo’s desperate, high-risk gambles. The list was massive, and it absolutely included previous battles with Hamilton. But it had to be said, today, Hamilton was undeniably extracting two hundred percent of his energy to violently defend his fragile lead.

From Lap 55 all the way to Lap 70, Hamilton’s defense remained utterly, terrifyingly flawless. He utilized a completely incomprehensible display of raw talent to continue leading the Grand Prix.

Excellent timing!

Kai felt a surge of genuine, hidden excitement. Challenging the absolute pinnacle of elite defensive racecraft on the streets of Monaco?

How could he possibly let such a phenomenal opportunity slip away!

Since his opponent was officially operating at his absolute, terrifying maximum, Kai naturally felt obligated to unleash his own ultimate, peak potential. This was about vastly more than just securing a Grand Prix trophy.

Kai remained completely unhurried. He wasn’t anxious in the slightest. The longer the deadlock persisted, the more the strategic balance tilted heavily in his favor. Hamilton’s tires were on the absolute verge of suffering a catastrophic, complete collapse. He was fully, meticulously prepared to launch his ultimate, do-or-die assault during the final two laps of the race.

Simultaneously, Kai was fully aware that the pit walls were frantically waiting for the rain. The terrifying 90% probability had still not materialized. The sudden arrival of rain possessed the massive potential to act as the ultimate, unpredictable catalyst that would violently overturn the board in the closing stages. It wasn’t just Mercedes-Benz; Red Bull was undoubtedly praying for rain as well. Ironically, at this specific moment, Ferrari was the only team desperately hoping the sky remained clear. The arrival of rain could completely, catastrophically destroy Kai’s meticulously crafted masterpiece.

Exactly when the rain would finally arrive remained a massive, terrifying unknown. However, Kai firmly, absolutely believed that Hamilton’s tires had finally, completely surrendered.

Without a microsecond of hesitation, Kai slightly escalated his pace. He aggressively lunged forward. Exactly like a terrifying clown suddenly popping its grotesque, painted face directly into Hamilton’s rearview mirrors. He had officially breached the DRS activation window.

Lap 71. The circuit, which had been trapped in a suffocating, agonizing lull for what felt like an eternity, instantly, violently erupted. As Kai successfully entered Hamilton’s DRS window for the very first time, the massive crowds were instantly whipped into a frenzy.

However, Hamilton put his World Championship-caliber composure on full display. He stubbornly, fiercely defended his racing line. Utilizing a posture of absolute, tyrannical aggression, he flatly refused to surrender his position.

The claustrophobic, unforgiving layout of the Monte Carlo circuit was undeniably Hamilton’s absolute greatest ally.

Kai remained equally composed. He had already successfully seized the ultimate, overarching initiative. At this specific moment, there was absolutely zero need to become frantic or desperate. Hastily attempting to forcefully hijack the race would inevitably result in catastrophic failure. Haste makes waste.

Lap 72. Lap 73.

Even as they approached Turn 10, universally recognized as the absolute best overtaking zone on the entire circuit, Kai remained completely, stubbornly passive. He simply, methodically continued to chip away at the distance, appearing directly behind Hamilton exactly like a silent, inescapable ghost.

Hubert wasn’t surprised in the slightest. He possessed a profound, intimate understanding of the unique characteristics of the Monaco circuit. While both scenarios involved DRS activation, launching an attack from 0.8 seconds behind was fundamentally, catastrophically different than attacking from 0.4 seconds behind. This was especially true when your target was a legendary defender like Hamilton. One glance was enough to confirm Kai’s strategy. He was meticulously preparing to execute a single, flawless, fatal strike.

He would remain completely silent, completely passive, until the absolute perfect microsecond arrived. And then, he would unleash a world-shattering explosion.

The ultimate, billion-dollar question remained. Exactly where was Kai planning to launch his final assault? The Nouvelle Chicane?

Before his brain could even begin to process the potential scenarios, Hubert violently jerked upright in his chair.

Turn 5???

It wasn’t just Hubert. In the broadcast booth, Crofty and Brundle were caught completely, catastrophically off guard by the sudden, completely untelegraphed shift in momentum. They literally choked on their own saliva. They completely forgot to cough. They simply sat there, staring blankly at the monitors, completely dumbfounded by the terrifying scene unfolding before them.

Absolutely no one had the faintest idea what was happening. The entirety of Monaco plunged into absolute, deathly silence.

To be brutally accurate, it wasn’t entering Turn 5. It was on the microscopic short straight immediately following the exit of Turn 5.

Kai had noticed a critical, microscopic detail. Hamilton had initiated his braking phase slightly earlier than usual entering the 90-degree right-hander at Turn 5. Yet, despite the early braking, the chassis had still violently understeered, lightly scraping the concrete barrier on the exit. The condition of Hamilton’s left-front tire was officially catastrophic.

This absolutely was not the original master plan. It was glaringly obvious that this was an incredibly poor, highly dangerous location to attempt an overtake.

However, following the massive, agonizingly long period of psychological pressure and meticulous tactical plotting, a flawless, perfect location no longer existed. There was only the perfect microsecond.

Displaying absolute, ruthless decisiveness, Kai instantly seized the microscopic window of vulnerability created by Hamilton’s frantic mid-corner correction. He aggressively mashed the throttle, closing the distance and staying glued to Hamilton’s gearbox. As they blasted onto the microscopic short straight, he didn’t hesitate for a fraction of a second. He violently attacked.

Hamilton was stunned.

But this was the exact, terrifying psychological shock Kai was aiming for. It wasn’t just Hamilton. It wasn’t just the broadcast booth. Even Pierre Borreipaire and Binotto, safely monitoring the telemetry from the Ferrari pit wall, completely froze in profound shock.

Because the very next corner in the sequence was Turn 6, the iconic Fairmont Hairpin. It is the absolute slowest, most agonizingly tight corner on the entire Formula 1 calendar. Not just in Monaco, but across the entire season.

It wasn’t just brutally slow. It was impossibly narrow. The congestion was absurd.

It was a super-low-speed corner. That was undeniably the Ferrari SF90’s absolute, most catastrophic weakness. In stark contrast, it was undeniably the Mercedes-Benz W10’s absolute greatest strength.

Viewed from absolutely any logical, analytical angle, this was not the optimal location to attempt an overtake. In fact, it could easily be argued that it was the absolute worst possible location on the entire circuit.

Yet, in defiance of all logic, Kai appeared. He launched a massive, terrifying assault, catching absolutely everyone completely, catastrophically off guard.

The core brilliance of the maneuver lay entirely in its absolute unpredictability.

Slipstream. Pull out. Dive right.

A flawless, fluid, single motion. Kai’s absolute lack of hesitation and phenomenally smooth execution completely, violently shattered Hamilton’s established rhythm.

Hamilton, whose nerves had been stretched to the absolute breaking point for twenty-five agonizing laps, had absolutely never anticipated that the lethal strike would arrive at this exact, highly illogical moment. His breath was violently severed. Amidst the massive chaos, his elite brain shifted into maximum overdrive. He instantly, viscerally diagnosed the lethal threat. Relying on his massive reservoir of championship experience and his unbreakable psychological resilience, Hamilton executed a lightning-fast, brilliant counter-measure.

A defensive block?

No. That was a pathetic, amateur-hour maneuver. Hamilton hadn’t forgotten the unique physics of the Fairmont Hairpin. The speed was incredibly, painfully slow. Kai’s tactical intention, launching an attack from the outside line on the right, was glaringly obvious.

Step 1. Utilize a superior mid-corner rhythm around the outside of the Turn 6 hairpin to aggressively pull side-by-side.

Step 2. Capitalize on the positional advantage to aggressively dive for the inside line approaching Turn 7, executing a massive late-braking maneuver to monopolize the apex.

Step 3. Exploit a vastly superior exit speed out of Turn 7 to violently seal the position.

It was crucial to remember that immediately following Turn 8, the circuit plunged directly into the tunnel, which was the absolute fastest, highest-speed sector in Monaco.

Having sparred against Kai for an entire, brutal season, Hamilton absolutely refused to underestimate him. He knew Kai was a brilliant tactician. He knew Kai always calculated three moves ahead. They had to maintain absolute oversight of the entire board. If they suffered from tunnel vision, they would inevitably, helplessly be sucked into Kai’s massive, destructive hurricane.

Precisely because of this elite tactical awareness, Hamilton stubbornly maintained his own signature defensive style.

He wasn’t hyper-aggressive. He wasn’t frantic. He simply, subtly drifted the nose of his chassis slightly to the right, passively compressing the available racing line. Within the claustrophobic confines of the Turn 6 hairpin, that microscopic adjustment in trajectory was more than sufficient. Kai would be forced into an incredibly agonizing, highly compromised position. Simultaneously, Hamilton was fully preparing to violently secure his track position entering Turn 7. The two drivers would engage in a brutal, head-to-head battle of late-braking. Relying entirely on his established positional advantage originating from Turn 6, Hamilton was absolutely confident he could successfully seize the ultimate initiative.

The youth was ultimately still too inexperienced. This supposedly brilliant trick.

Wait a second.

Just as Hamilton was preparing to initiate his steering input to the right, the flash of scarlet he expected to see violently surging into his right-side mirror suddenly, inexplicably retreated. It washed away exactly like a receding tide.

Oh, no.

Hamilton’s heart violently contracted. His breath froze in his throat.

Driven entirely by pure, terrified instinct, he snapped his gaze to his left-side mirror. Exactly as his nightmares had predicted, he saw that blazing, un-killable flash of Ferrari red.

The Number 22 car had executed a flawless, devastating feint.

Launching a massive, high-speed assault in the blink of an eye, explicitly forcing the opponent to rely on pure, terrified reflex. Even an elite World Champion like Hamilton was fundamentally incapable of completely overriding his primal, survival instincts in a fraction of a second. But immediately following the feint, Kai had already violently snapped his chassis back to the left. Exactly like a starving, predatory beast, he aggressively dove across the rear wing of the Number 44 car, violently squeezing his chassis into the microscopic opening.

Light, agile, brilliant, and utterly ruthless. He instantly dove directly for the absolute inside apex of the Turn 6 hairpin.

At this exact moment, the rear of the Number 44 car slowly, inevitably drifted to the right. The incredibly narrow, previously impenetrable inside line slowly, agonizingly opened up. It presented its vulnerable heart directly to the Number 22.

Like a magnificent waterfall, exactly like a raging torrent, the deafening, earth-shattering roar of the Ferrari engine violently cascaded down upon them.

Hamilton could clearly, viscerally see the terrifying flash of scarlet currently dominating his left-side mirror. It violently bullied its way inside. Adopting a posture of absolute, tyrannical aggression, it violently usurped his territory, instantly saturating the entire available physical space. The single, heavily frayed nerve that had been keeping his brain functioning instantly, violently snapped.

SNAP.

In that exact microsecond, every single sound in the universe completely, utterly vanished.
