F1: The Speed Legend

The mathematicaldifficulty of executing a successful overcut was an equation Kai understood intimately.

On one front, he faced the hyper-vigilant, terrified paranoia of the Mercedes-Benz and Red Bull pit walls. On the other front, he faced the agonizing reality of navigating through a massive swarm of backmarkers, which inevitably compromised his pace.

Kai was currently trapped exactly like the filling in a terrifying, high-speed sandwich, with starving wolves blocking his path forward and a ferocious tiger hunting him from behind. This was especially true after navigating the chaotic aftermath of the traffic jam at Turn 1; establishing a stable, consistent rhythm had proven to be a massively difficult challenge.

Under these highly volatile circumstances, if he absolutely refused to meekly surrender, he had to dynamically adapt, ride the turbulent currents, and forcefully bend the chaos to his advantage.

So, what exactly was the optimal play?

He needed to aggressively project the posture of a driver stubbornly, idiotically defending track position. He needed to make it appear as though he was desperately ”waiting for a Safety Car” or ”waiting for the rain,” banking entirely on an unpredictable, catastrophic variable to violently overturn the board.

Obviously, Kai knew perfectly well that his current set of red Soft tires would absolutely not survive until the checkered flag. However, the longer he stubbornly maintained this posture and stayed out on the track, the higher the statistical probability that Mercedes-Benz and Red Bull would begin to waver. If they eventually cracked and initiated a massive push phase to aggressively close the gap—terrified that Kai might successfully open up a large enough pit window to capitalize on a sudden Safety Car deployment—they would inevitably inflict massive, accelerated degradation upon their own tires.

Without a shadow of a doubt, tire degradation in Monaco wasn’t typically severe. But ’not severe’ was absolutely not synonymous with ’zero degradation.’

Hamilton and Verstappen had both swapped to their White Hard tires incredibly early on Lap 11. If they initiated a massive, sustained push phase right now, it was highly probable they would encounter severe tire degradation and a catastrophic loss of mechanical grip during the crucial closing stages of the race.

This was no longer a simple mathematical equation regarding tire life. This was a brutal, psychological war of attrition—

The longer Kai stubbornly remained out on the track, and the longer Hamilton and Verstappen were forced to aggressively push their tires, the larger Kai’s ultimate performance advantage would be once he finally swapped to fresh Hard tires.

Simultaneously, however, the longer Hamilton and Verstappen pushed, the more aggressively they would devour Kai’s theoretical pit window. Consequently, when Kai finally exited the pit lane after his stop, the time deficit separating him from the leaders would be exponentially larger, massively increasing the difficulty of chasing them down and attempting an overtake.

In other words, Kai was running a massive, complex calculation. And he knew Hamilton and Verstappen were running the exact same calculation.

At this exact moment, the absolute busiest individuals on the pit wall were undoubtedly the race engineers. They were obsessively monitoring their drivers’ tire temperature curves while simultaneously maintaining a hyper-vigilant watch on their opponents’ rhythm.

Contingency Plan G—

Pfft.

Borreipaire completely failed to maintain his composure, nearly bursting into a loud laugh. It was classic Kai. Even while operating under this terrifying, suffocating pressure, he still hadn’t forgotten to crack a joke.

Binotto froze. He shot Borreipaire a bewildered look. He didn’t use the radio, instead silently mouthing the word, ”G?”

Unless his memory was failing him catastrophically, they absolutely had not formulated a ’Contingency Plan G’ during their pre-race tactical briefings. Had he zoned out and missed a massively critical point?

Seeing the profound, bewildered seriousness on Binotto’s face, the amusement in Borreipaire’s eyes only deepened. ”It’s a joke.”

Binotto stared at Borreipaire, looking utterly dumbfounded.

Borreipaire quickly averted his gaze, locking his focus entirely back onto the telemetry monitors. He used every ounce of his willpower to suppress his smile.

The supposed ’Contingency Plan G’ could be interpreted as ’dynamic, real-time adaptation.’ Or, it could be interpreted as ’violently shredding the entire tactical playbook and starting over from scratch.’ Or, perhaps most accurately, it could be interpreted as ’launching a brutal, head-on collision course.’

To summarize: it was a completely fabricated, non-existent plan.

Despite not fully understanding the inside joke, both Zhou Guanyu and Hubert could clearly sense the massive, suffocating tension inside the Ferrari garage subtly loosen. The atmosphere seemed to immediately become more vibrant and energetic.

Lap 20. Kai still hadn’t pitted. His single-lap rhythm remained incredibly stable. Hamilton and Verstappen slowly, methodically began to chip away at his lead. Because Kai was constantly battling through backmarker traffic, the process of attempting to build a sufficient pit window for the overcut was proceeding at an agonizingly slow, deeply unsatisfactory pace.

Lap 25. Kai had already significantly exceeded Pirelli’s official recommended lifespan for the Soft tires. Yet, he stubbornly maintained his rhythm. Mercedes-Benz and Red Bull immediately sensed the anomaly. Hamilton and Verstappen subtly reduced their pace, and the gap between them and the leader slowly began to expand once again.

It wasn’t just the personnel on the pit walls. The commentators in the broadcast booth were also constantly looking nervously up at the sky—

The ominous clouds were growing significantly thicker and heavier, rapidly transitioning from a light, hazy gray to a deep, threatening charcoal. Yet, there was absolutely no wind. A gentle, cooling breeze drifted across the circuit, feeling strangely, inappropriately pleasant.

It was incredibly difficult to predict. The rain looked as though it could start pouring at any second, yet it stubbornly held off. The entire paddock was caught in a massive, agonizing state of suspense, their hearts in their throats. But absolutely no one was willing to make a definitive prediction.

”It is glaringly obvious that Kai’s Soft tires are currently operating on the absolute ragged edge of their lifespan. However, the billion-dollar question remains: exactly when will the rain arrive?”

”If the rain officially begins falling within the next two laps, the scenario is absolutely flawless for Ferrari. But the absolute, catastrophic nightmare scenario is this: Kai finally decides he can’t wait any longer and dives into the pits for slick tires... only to discover it starts raining the exact second he exits the pit lane. That would completely, violently obliterate Ferrari’s entire race.”

”Currently, Ferrari is trapped in an incredibly awkward, agonizingly vulnerable strategic position. Should Kai stubbornly continue to brave it out on the track?”

Until the event actually occurred, there was absolutely no correct answer.

Lap 26. Kai initiated a massive pace escalation—

The rain wasn’t coming. That was Kai’s definitive, personal assessment. Rather than continuing this agonizing, suffocating deadlock on the track—where his track position was becoming increasingly vulnerable, his tires were rapidly failing, his pace was inevitably dropping, and Hamilton could effortlessly close the gap without even needing to aggressively push—he decided it was vastly superior to seize the initiative. While his tires still possessed a microscopic sliver of life remaining, he was going to launch a desperate, do-or-die assault.

The notification graphics indicating consecutive purple sectors began aggressively popping up on the broadcast feed. The heavy, stagnant, suffocating heat that precedes a torrential downpour was violently churned up. The atmosphere became viscous, scorching hot, and dizzying.

A low, vibrating hum began to echo against eardrums. Slowly, inexorably, it gathered momentum, grabbing hearts and twisting them into a massive, terrifying tornado.

1:15.017!

”Kai! He violently shatters the fastest lap record!”

Cough, cough—Cough, cough—

When Crofty saw the numbers flash across his screen, he literally choked on his own saliva. His heart was hammering so violently it felt as though it were going to explode in his chest.

This wasn’t a minor, incremental improvement. Kai had violently dragged his single-lap pace into an entirely new, terrifyingly fast stratosphere. Utilizing an aura of absolute, tyrannical dominance, he violently shattered the suffocating deadlock.

The pit lane was instantly thrown into absolute chaos.

”Lewis! Push! Push!”

”Max, aggressively match Hamilton’s pace. Kai is making his move.”

Everyone in the paddock knew the brutal truth: the rhythm of the race was entirely in Kai’s hands. He possessed total authority over when to accelerate and when to pit.

However! Escalating his single-lap pace by a massive 1.5 seconds in a single, explosive burst?! By pushing with such terrifying, unhinged aggression, wasn’t Kai terrified that the SF90’s tire degradation curve would suffer an instantaneous, catastrophic cliff-drop?

Wait a second—

Operating from entirely different pit walls, Wolff and Horner both felt their hearts violently contract simultaneously. The subtle, easily dismissed anomaly that had occurred in Barcelona seemed to have caused them to overlook a massive, terrifying truth. Was this the actual, underlying reason Ferrari had appeared to struggle so profoundly during Free Practice in Monaco? Was it all an elaborate, meticulously crafted smokescreen designed explicitly to conceal a massive, terrifying secret?

Damn it!

At this exact moment, regret and frustration were completely useless emotions. Wolff and Horner stared unblinkingly at the scarlet Number 22 Ferrari tearing across the monitors.

Lap 27. Kai was still aggressively, relentlessly pushing.

Sector 1—Purple!

Sector 2—Purple!

After a rapid, frantic glance at the micro-sector times, Horner instantly recognized the massive, impending crisis. Kai wasn’t satisfied with his previous lap. He was continuing to violently accelerate. It was glaringly obvious that he was fully committing to dropping into the 1:14s on this specific lap. If his single-lap pace could generate a massive, two-second advantage... a successful overcut wasn’t just a possibility; it was a highly probable reality.

Horner didn’t have a single microsecond to waste marveling at exactly how Ferrari had managed to discover this terrifying, explosive pace. He decisively slammed the radio button.

”Max, Kai’s pace has officially dropped into the 14s. Push! Push with absolutely everything you have!”

After delivering the frantic command, Horner finally realized that lactic acid was flooding his system. The muscles in his arms and lower back ached intensely. Yet, he remained completely, rigidly tense. He was fundamentally incapable of relaxing.

Out on the asphalt, Kai, currently operating entirely flat-out, didn’t actually complete Sector 3. Instead, he transformed into a brilliant streak of scarlet light, blasting majestically through Turn 17. As he steered to the right, he subtly increased his steering angle, executing a flawless, incredibly fluid maneuver to dive directly into the pit lane. He slammed the pit limiter button. A massive, concussive wave of heat and sound surged violently down the empty pit lane. Every single figure standing on the pit wall spun around, their eyes burning with intense scrutiny as they locked onto that flash of Ferrari red.

It wasn’t until the Number 22 car had successfully swapped to the White Hard tires and officially re-entered the pit exit lane that the collective, burning gaze of the paddock finally shifted back to the actual racing circuit.

Every single pair of eyes was locked obsessively onto the end of the main straight, desperately waiting for Hamilton and Verstappen to materialize—

Majestic and terrifying, a flash of silver blasted into view. Hamilton had once again put his elite, World Championship-caliber composure on full display. Despite the massive, crushing pressure generated by Kai’s explosive pace escalation, Hamilton maintained flawless, absolute control over his rhythm. He effortlessly, casually extinguished Kai’s overcut attempt, blasting past the pit exit with zero suspense to reclaim the race lead.

At that exact moment, Kai was only just passing the Racing Point pit box.

Immediately following that, a flash of dark, matte blue appeared. Was the highly anticipated, genius-level duel between ”Verstappen vs. Kai” about to erupt?

This time, Verstappen delivered a firm, undeniable rejection to the invitation.

Kai had barely managed to clear the pit limiter zone before the Number 33 car aggressively blasted through Turn 1, completely, decisively leaving the Number 22 in its wake.

Verstappen: Thanks for the invite, but unfortunately, I’ll have to pass. We’ll fight another day.

...

”Hamilton! Verstappen!”

”They have both successfully blasted past the pit exit! Kai’s massive overcut attempt has officially failed! Both Mercedes-Benz and Red Bull undoubtedly felt the massive, crushing pressure generated by Kai’s assault. But without a shadow of a doubt, both Hamilton and Verstappen delivered elite, World Championship-level responses, utilizing unparalleled performances to successfully defend their track positions!”

”Currently, the podium positions are occupied by Hamilton, Verstappen, and Kai. Bottas is running in P4!”

”Lewis Hamilton has officially reclaimed the lead of the Monaco Grand Prix! He currently has his sights firmly locked onto his fourth victory of the season, and a potential, terrifying three-race winning streak encompassing Baku, Barcelona, and Monaco! If he successfully pulls this off, he will violently, aggressively pull away from both Bottas and Kai in the Drivers’ Championship standings!”

A massive, collective uproar. A chorus of shocked gasps—

Although the overcut had ultimately failed, there was absolutely no denying that Kai had utilized a completely incomprehensible, terrifying display of pace to whip up a massive hurricane. What had originally appeared to be a completely tedious, agonizingly boring procession was now fully engulfed in a massive storm. The dramatic, unpredictable, high-speed tactical warfare between the elite drivers was incredibly thrilling to watch. It was a massive, potent injection of speed and passion.

Zhou Guanyu completely lost his battle for composure. He stared at the ceiling, letting out a long, profound sigh of deep regret. He grabbed Hubert’s shoulder, desperately trying to maintain his balance.

However, he hadn’t anticipated that Hubert was suffering from the exact same reaction. Hubert’s knees buckled. When Zhou Guanyu grabbed him, he nearly tumbled straight to the floor. After frantically scrambling to regain their balance and narrowly avoiding a highly embarrassing disaster, the two young men finally realized how completely ridiculous they looked.

Hubert took a deep, shuddering breath. ”Calm down. Calm down. The race is barely a third of the way over.”

Zhou Guanyu froze. ”A third? Less than... wait, it’s definitely been more than a third, hasn’t it?”

The two young men exchanged bewildered glances. They stared at each other for a moment. The absurdity of the situation finally washed over them, and they both burst into laughter.

Over the radio, Kai was also cracking jokes. ”Ah, missed him by a hair. I was incredibly close to catching Max.”

Considering the actual gap was 1.901 seconds, calling it ”missed by a hair” was a massive, comedic exaggeration.

A smile touched Borreipaire’s eyes. ”If we factor in Max’s five-second time penalty, to be brutally accurate, we are technically already running ahead of him.”

”Haha!” Kai laughed out loud. ”As expected, we ultimately had to rely on Contingency Plan G. However, at the very least, we managed to secure a massive boost in confidence.”

The so-called ’Contingency Plan G’ could be interpreted as ’dynamic adaptation,’ or it could be interpreted as ’initiating a brutal, head-to-head dogfight directly on the asphalt.’ Exactly like the scenario that unfolded in Singapore last year. Overtaking opportunities might be scarce, but that absolutely did not mean they were entirely nonexistent.

The massive, flat-out sprint over the past two laps undeniably served the secondary purpose of forcing Hamilton and Verstappen to burn through their tire life. But the true, primary objective had been to explicitly test the efficacy of the aerodynamic upgrades in a live-race environment.

Prior to the upgrades, if the chassis was suffering from severe tire degradation during a race stint, attempting to push flat-out would only be viable for a single lap. Immediately following that, the tire performance would suffer an instantaneous, catastrophic cliff-drop. However, today, after running the Soft tires for twenty-five laps, Kai had successfully pushed flat-out for nearly two full laps, and the degradation curve remained remarkably stable. It hadn’t collapsed.

The extensive data compiled during their simulator testing had explicitly predicted this specific outcome. Now, that theoretical data had been unequivocally validated during a live Grand Prix. The SF90 was undeniably progressing along the correct developmental path.

The next phase involved initiating a brutal, head-to-head clash directly on the asphalt. Naturally, if the rain actually decided to fall, that would trigger an entirely different, vastly more chaotic narrative.

In the main grandstands, the gasps of awe and the continuous exclamations of shock were deafening. Fans were exchanging wild, bewildered glances. Their faces were twisted into expressions of profound shock. They desperately wanted to scream profanities in pure excitement, but the words were stuck in their throats.

Thrilling. Thrilling. It was absolutely thrilling. The race had been defined by a continuous string of chaotic events and massive adrenaline spikes. The dizzying, bayonets-drawn, close-quarters combat hadn’t offered a single microsecond of breathing room.

Anya turned to the stranger standing next to her, her face a mask of profound shock. ”Is Monaco always this incredibly intense? This is vastly different from everything I’ve been told.”

From the opening lap all the way to Lap 27, it had been a nonstop, high-octane rollercoaster ride. Was this considered normal?

”No, absolutely not normal. This year is definitely... an anomaly. But just watch. The race will settle into a completely boring procession from here on out. The suspense is essentially over. The podium positions are basically locked in. The remainder of the race will be an agonizingly tedious, entirely predictable parade.” The stranger explained, adopting the tone of a seasoned, cynical veteran.

Anya tilted her head. ”I honestly don’t think Kai is going to just give up.”

”Ah, the Number 22, right? Well, that is a valid point. I sincerely doubt the Number 22 or the Number 33 are going to passively accept this result. They will undeniably launch attacks. But this is Monaco. Overtaking here is genuinely, brutally, terrifyingly difficult. Unless a car possesses a massive, undeniable performance advantage, overtaking a car operating on the exact same performance level is basically impossible.”

A second voice chimed in, followed quickly by a third. ”Don’t forget, Mercedes-Benz currently possesses the only true ’alien-tier’ chassis on the grid.”

”Honestly, though, Mercedes-Benz is incredibly boring to watch. Aside from Shanghai, this entire season has been nothing but the Mercedes-Benz show. Last season’s chaotic, back-and-forth brawls were vastly more entertaining.”

”I actually have massive respect for Ferrari today. Even here in Monaco, every single chaotic event and adrenaline spike has been actively orchestrated entirely by Ferrari. The race is noticeably vastly more entertaining because of them.”

Thinking about it objectively, it was undeniably true. Ferrari had actively orchestrated every single chaotic wave and adrenaline spike. And it wasn’t just Kai—

Leclerc: ... Do you honestly think I wanted any of that to happen?! Ha!

Surrounded by the constant chatter, Anya nodded slowly. She didn’t fully comprehend the technical jargon, but she grasped the core concepts. She knew she was an outsider; literally anyone in this crowd possessed vastly more motorsport knowledge than she did.

However, Anya firmly believed that, viewed from Kai’s specific perspective, all the agonizing effort and brilliant tactical maneuvering he had executed so far was absolutely not leading up to him passively surrendering and waving the white flag.

The race was absolutely not over!

However, the reality unfolding on the asphalt seemed to perfectly align with the cynical veteran’s prediction. Following the massive, chaotic storm and the relentless barrage of unexpected variables, the Monaco Grand Prix finally seemed to settle back into its standard, entirely predictable rhythm—

Everything was incredibly stable. The massive time delta separating the leading pack from the rest of the field was glaringly obvious. Currently, five cars had already been lapped.

The most critical detail was that Hamilton, having reclaimed the race lead, absolutely did not initiate a massive sprint. He immediately dropped his single-lap rhythm back down to a highly conservative 1:16 pace. He was fiercely defending his track position utilizing an incredibly stable, almost mind-numbingly boring approach. He clearly possessed absolutely zero intention of taking massive risks to pursue fastest lap records. Yet, despite the conservative pace, the leading pack was still slowly, methodically closing the gap to their next backmarker prey.

To be brutally honest, it was incredibly boring!

This type of race was undeniably tedious. There was absolutely no wheel-to-wheel combat on the track, and there was absolutely zero tactical warfare occurring on the pit walls. There wasn’t even the subtle, psychological tension generated by drivers constantly manipulating their single-lap rhythms to pressure each other. Forget about the casual viewers; even hardcore, seasoned motorsport fanatics struggled to extract any genuine entertainment from this agonizingly predictable procession.

When compared to circuits with highly similar characteristics, such as Baku or Singapore, Monaco’s once-blinding, legendary allure was undeniably, slowly fading away.

And then, the broadcast booth was the very first to spot the anomaly.

”Kai is aggressively hunting down Verstappen,” Brundle announced.

Brundle had been obsessively monitoring Kai’s every single movement. He was absolutely, mathematically certain that the overcut attempt was not Kai’s ultimate tactical endgame. Even in Monaco, it was impossible for Kai not to have prepared a lethal contingency plan. Furthermore, the massive, glaring tire advantage currently at Kai’s disposal was undeniable. It was impossible for Kai to simply ignore it.

Hamilton and Verstappen’s Hard tires were a massive seventeen laps older than Kai’s. Furthermore, there were still roughly fifty laps remaining in the Grand Prix. The absolute, overriding priority for Hamilton and Verstappen was meticulously protecting their tire life and flawlessly managing their pace.

Naturally, there was absolutely zero doubt that Verstappen would eventually launch an assault on Hamilton. However, factoring in his current tire degradation, it was highly probable that Verstappen would patiently wait until the final fifteen laps—or potentially even the final ten laps—before initiating his attack.

The strategic initiative was entirely, firmly in Kai’s hands.

Brundle clearly understood this reality. The Mercedes-Benz and Red Bull pit walls understood it as well.

However, absolutely no one knew exactly when Kai would choose to pull the trigger. This terrifying unknown hung over the race exactly like a suspended guillotine. Everyone was agonizingly waiting for the blade to drop.

Logically speaking, it would be vastly more strategically advantageous for Kai to also wait until the closing stages of the race before launching his assault. But who knows? Kai notoriously despised operating according to standard, logical conventions.

Therefore, Brundle maintained absolute, hyper-focused vigilance. The apparent boredom and the eerie tranquility were actually the perfect camouflage for a massive, incoming storm!

Exactly as predicted—

Lap 31! Kai had utilized the previous three laps to meticulously warm up his fresh tires and optimize his chassis balance. Now, he began a methodical, highly calculated pace escalation, slowly but relentlessly closing the gap to Verstappen.

Initially, the pursuit wasn’t glaringly obvious. Kai didn’t rush the process. He entirely dictated his own rhythm, closing the distance inch by agonizing inch.

It took two full laps before Crofty finally realized his partner’s assessment was spot on.

”Kai has officially breached Verstappen’s DRS window!”

”The ultimate billion-dollar question is: Exactly when is he preparing to launch his attack?”

The exact second the words left his mouth, the atmosphere instantly solidified—

Kai made his move.

...

The Monte Carlo circuit practically lacks any genuine overtaking zones. According to the official FIA circuit guide, the sole, notable exception is Turn 10. This is the circuit’s designated, ’official’ overtaking zone.

After navigating the right-hander at Portier (Turn 8), the cars plunge into the iconic tunnel. Although the tunnel features a high-speed right-hand curve (Turn 9), this specific sector represents the absolute fastest point on the entire circuit. The instant the cars blast out of the tunnel, they enter the DRS activation zone, rocketing down a short straight directly toward the Nouvelle Chicane.

Within this tiny, microscopic footprint of asphalt, the circuit designers had engineered a highly technical ’chicane’ complex. The entry is Turn 10, and the exit is Turn 11. In the incredibly narrow, claustrophobic confines of the harbor section, this complex represents the absolute best overtaking opportunity on the entire Monte Carlo circuit.

This was the ’official guide.’ It was universally known. Even casual tourists visiting Monaco exclusively to snap a few photos for Instagram knew to specifically seek out the Nouvelle Chicane.

The massive advantage was that it undeniably provided a genuine, functional overtaking zone.

The catastrophic disadvantage was that initiating an attack here offered absolutely zero element of surprise. Your tactical intentions were completely, glaringly transparent.

Verstappen absolutely did not believe Kai would choose the Nouvelle Chicane to launch his assault.

The very first person in the entire paddock to notice Kai’s subtle shift in momentum wasn’t Brundle. It was Gianpiero Lambiase—Verstappen’s race engineer.

Ever since Verstappen was aggressively promoted to Red Bull in Barcelona back in 2016, Lambiase had served as his dedicated race engineer. The legendary engineer, affectionately referred to as ”GP” by the fans, had always utilized a calm, razor-sharp, highly professional approach to maintain absolute control over the race dynamic. His relationship with Verstappen was a highly effective blend of mentor and friend.

While Verstappen’s absolute, undivided focus was locked entirely onto hunting down Hamilton, Lambiase’s gaze had never once wavered from Kai. Absolutely no microscopic fluctuation in pace or trajectory escaped his scrutiny.

Lambiase didn’t disrupt Verstappen’s intense pursuit of Hamilton. He simply waited for the optimal, perfect microsecond to discreetly alert Verstappen to the massive threat rapidly approaching from behind—

Kai is escalating his rhythm. Kai is aggressively closing the gap.

”Kai’s engine power output is increasing. He has officially breached your DRS window.” Lambiase’s voice was low, incredibly calm, and highly efficient. He immediately relayed the critical, real-time dynamic.

Verstappen had already spotted the flash of scarlet in his rearview mirrors. ”What is our current delta to the backmarkers ahead of us?”

However, Verstappen firmly believed that Kai would absolutely not execute a standard, predictable attack at the Nouvelle Chicane. Kai’s absolute greatest strength was his terrifying ability to violently shatter established conventions and completely overturn the board.

Verstappen hadn’t forgotten Singapore. A highly similar scenario had played out. Hamilton had brilliantly utilized backmarker traffic to break the tow and drop both Verstappen and Kai. However, Kai had subsequently utilized that exact same backmarker traffic to execute a flawless, brutal block on Verstappen, successfully completing the overtake.

Now, here in Monaco, Verstappen was absolutely, fundamentally determined to ensure that exact same humiliating scenario did not repeat itself.

Lambiase instantly decoded the inquiry. He was preparing to relay the critical telemetry to Verstappen when the situation on the asphalt violently escalated. A pit wall’s reaction time is never genuinely instantaneous. Lambiase immediately clamped his mouth shut, abruptly severing the radio transmission. His eyes locked obsessively onto the telemetry monitors. In that fleeting, microscopic moment, his heart completely stopped beating.

Kai launched his attack.

Methodical, agonizingly slow escalation. Step by calculated step, he carved his way deep into the DRS window. The exact microsecond he achieved optimal positioning... there was zero hesitation, zero prolonged build-up. He launched a massive, devastating strike with absolute, terrifying decisiveness.

He didn’t offer his opponent a single microsecond to breathe.

Approaching Turn 8, the Portier right-hander. Kai’s braking point remained flawlessly precise. He absolutely did not attempt a reckless, desperate late-braking maneuver. He continued to navigate the corner utilizing a perfectly standard, highly predictable rhythm. This single, highly calculated detail successfully deceived Lambiase and completely failed to trigger Verstappen’s alarm bells.

In Monaco, cars running nose-to-tail is an incredibly common occurrence. As long as Kai continued to operate within a standard, predictable rhythm, the lethal dagger hidden deep within his sleeve would remain completely undetected.

In reality, Kai utilized a breathtakingly beautiful synchronization of steering and throttle inputs to carve through Turn 8 with phenomenal, silky-smooth fluidity. His incredibly stable mid-corner rhythm generated a massive, vastly superior exit speed. Coincidentally, as Verstappen attempted to aggressively defend the optimal racing line, his braking point entering Turn 8 had been a fraction of a microsecond too late. Consequently, upon exiting the corner, his rear wing suffered a brief, subtle moment of instability—

It wasn’t glaringly obvious. Furthermore, Verstappen’s corrective inputs were incredibly rapid and flawless. He didn’t expose a massive, gaping vulnerability.

However, Kai ruthlessly seized the fleeting, microscopic opportunity. Even Kai himself hadn’t anticipated encountering such a flawless opening immediately upon entering the DRS zone. He violently dove his chassis directly into Verstappen’s slipstream. He stayed glued to the gearbox, blasting through the tunnel entirely flat-out. As they rocketed toward the blinding halo of light marking the tunnel exit.

Pull out! Surge forward! Side-by-side!

A flawless, fluid, single motion.

The attack relied entirely on the absolute element of surprise. Forget about Lambiase; even Borreipaire had completely failed to anticipate the sudden assault.

In the brief, terrifying microsecond it took Verstappen to attempt to mentally construct a defensive trajectory and violently shake off the pursuit, Kai had already aggressively wedged his chassis directly up the inside of Verstappen, violently seizing the inside line.

VROOM! VROOM! VROOM!

Wheel-to-wheel!

There was absolutely zero time for regret or frustration. The brutal, bayonets-drawn dogfight had officially commenced.

Kai didn’t touch the brakes. Verstappen didn’t touch the brakes. Forget about the tiny Nouvelle Chicane complex; even if a bottomless, terrifying abyss lay directly in front of them, both fiercely aggressive young drivers absolutely refused to be the first to flinch.

The entry to the chicane complex. First left, then right. Turn 10 is classified as a single corner, but it’s essentially a tightly folded angle, composed of two distinct right angles violently stitched together.

Currently, Kai had brilliantly utilized the element of surprise to aggressively seize the left side of the track. This granted him a massive positional advantage entering the first right angle. However, the subsequent second right angle fundamentally favored the driver positioned on the right... which was Verstappen. Therefore, both drivers were desperately attempting to execute massive late-braking maneuvers to violently secure the optimal racing line. Neither man was willing to yield a single inch.

Kai—did not brake.

Verstappen—flatly refused to brake.

In the span of a thousandth of a second, the two young drivers didn’t even exchange a glance, but the lethal tension saturating the air was on the verge of a catastrophic detonation.

Kai’s right-front tire was rapidly, violently converging on Verstappen’s left-front tire. The situation was aggressively deteriorating. It was hanging by a thread. It looked absolutely certain they were about to suffer a massive, high-speed collision.

Kai—continued pushing to the absolute, terrifying limit.

Verstappen was completely caught off guard. This season, primarily due to the severe limitations of the Ferrari chassis, Kai had very rarely attempted massive, desperate late-braking maneuvers. That was traditionally Red Bull’s signature, defining weapon. Yet, here in Monaco, he was once again witnessing the terrifying resurrection of the lawless, utterly insane Kai from last season. Verstappen was currently staring down the barrel of a massive, lethal crisis.

If Verstappen continued to refuse to brake, he would suffer catastrophic understeer. He would be physically incapable of rotating the chassis through the corner.

But if he yielded and hit the brakes right now, he would surrender the racing line, which inevitably meant completely surrendering his track position.

In this absolute, do-or-die moment, Verstappen put his phenomenal courage and terrifying raw talent on full display. Brake, steering input. He aggressively attempted to utilize a technique strongly resembling a street-racing drift to violently, brutally muscle his way through the first right angle of Turn 10. He fully intended to seize the apex, violently slam the door shut in Kai’s face, and blast out of the corner with his track position fully intact.

Was this... even physically possible?

There was only one way to find out.

Verstappen didn’t hesitate or second-guess himself. He committed entirely. The inputs were flawless. Relying on a microscopic, half-car-length advantage, he violently, aggressively secured the initial turn-in point—

No understeer!

And then, the rear of the chassis violently snapped out. He utilized absolute, tyrannical, unreasonable aggression to violently swallow the first right angle. Clean, brutal, and incredibly decisive. Every single spectator swallowed their gasps of awe. The entire grandstand was dead silent.

Kai: Danger!

Verstappen was glaringly obviously attempting to utilize this brutal, tyrannical maneuver to force Kai into total submission. Unfortunately for Verstappen, Kai absolutely refused to be bullied.

Brakes?

A slight tap. Maintaining control was absolutely essential. But Kai didn’t execute a massive, panic-induced stomp on the brake pedal. Instead, he utilized a highly delicate technique, lightly tapping the brakes to manage the forward inertia of the chassis. He maintained a stiff, almost rigid trajectory, artificially simulating understeer, and steered his chassis directly toward Verstappen.

Simultaneously, he rotated the steering wheel in perfect synchronization with the first right angle of Turn 10, carving a breathtaking, terrifyingly beautiful arc. The entire crowd completely forgot to breathe as they stared, transfixed, at the unfolding spectacle.

Look! That scarlet blur was executing a terrifyingly dangerous, high-wire flight. It looked exactly as though he were sprinting along the absolute edge of a sheer cliff. He stayed glued to the side of the dark blue chassis, gliding outward with terrifying, flawless grace. One moment he was as sharp as a razor blade; the next, he flowed exactly like a vibrant rainbow. The two distinct colors tangled together in a spectacular, breathtaking display, yet remained miraculously, impossibly separated.

The Number 33 car was operating with brutal, tyrannical aggression. The Number 22 car was moving with flawless, breathtaking grace.

Two completely contrasting styles, beautifully blending brute force and elegant precision, violently entangled. It looked exactly as though the scarlet blur was preparing to miraculously escape the lethal danger and blast through the darkness. However, the dark blue chassis was slightly too impatient. The trajectory deviated by a microscopic fraction. It seemed the throttle had been applied a mere 0.01 seconds too early. And as a direct consequence—

BANG!

The world fell completely silent. Absolute, profound tranquility. The only sound was the violent, concussive hammering of terrified hearts slamming against ribs, threatening to explode.

A microsecond. It was only a brief, fleeting microsecond. But witnessing the brutal impact unfold, exactly like Mars violently colliding with Earth, the image was permanently, irreversibly burned into their brains.

”Contact!”

”Collision!”

However, the moment was so incredibly brief that absolutely no one had time to react. They simply stared, completely paralyzed, as the terrifying sequence of events continued to unfold—

The Number 33 car was violently violently shoved by the reactionary force of the impact. The sudden burst of kinetic energy, combined with the intense centrifugal force, violently whipped the chassis outward. It was sent hurtling directly into the belly of the chicane complex.

The Number 22 car was not immune. The massive reactionary force violently shoved the nose of the chassis outward. Exactly like a stumbling drunkard, the car was sent hurtling directly toward the concrete barrier lining Turn 10.

”GASP!”

The crowd’s collective breath was violently severed.

Look!

Amidst the massive chaos and violent turbulence, Kai displayed an absolutely unbelievable level of courage and elite car control. In the span of a single second, he executed a rapid-fire sequence of throttle inputs perfectly synchronized with steering micro-corrections. He didn’t touch the brakes; he relied entirely on the throttle. He remained completely unhurried, utterly devoid of panic. His inputs were light but incredibly precise, brief but tremendously powerful. Amidst the violently spinning, chaotic world, he successfully reclaimed traction. He rapidly re-established the chassis’s center of gravity and restored dynamic equilibrium.

The Number 22 car looked absolutely certain to violently slam into the concrete wall. Yet, in the absolute final microsecond, the wildly oscillating, chaotic chassis miraculously glided past the barrier with only millimeters to spare.

It was exactly like surfing a massive wave. The boiling, intense adrenaline transformed into a brilliant scarlet blur that violently crashed down upon them, violently yanking the hearts of every single spectator up to the absolute highest peak of the tsunami.

And then, he blasted out of the embrace of the first right angle. He had already violently left the second right angle of Turn 10 in his wake. He was rocketing perfectly straight, entirely focused on the entry to Turn 11.

Steering angle, locked.

Throttle, maintained.

The vibrant, brilliantly bright Ferrari red violently saturated the entire available space outside the apex of the chicane. The lethal tension of the dogfight continued to violently agitate the air. But the scarlet blade was already unstoppably blasting toward the next corner. He hugged the apex of Turn 11, rocketing directly toward the right side of the corner exit, slicing straight across the entire width of the corner from left to right.

Simultaneously, he executed a massive, flawless block! A massive barrier! A brutal interception!

Utilizing an incredibly robust, entirely unreasonable posture, he violently sealed off the only available exit path out of the Nouvelle Chicane. He brutally, forcefully trapped Verstappen—who was desperately trying to extract his chassis from the belly of the chicane—firmly behind him.

Verstappen screamed over the radio. ”[BEEP]!”

Verstappen completely lost his mind.

Under normal racing circumstances, when two cars collide at Turn 10, the car positioned on the right is fundamentally incapable of smoothly accessing the inside line to secure the apex. The inevitable result is that they are forced to completely abandon the track limits, blasting straight across the runoff area behind Turn 10 and Turn 11, violently shortcutting the chicane to re-enter the track on the short straight below. Conversely, the car positioned on the left can usually maintain adherence to track limits, properly navigating the chicane complex before exiting Turn 11 to enter the short straight.

It’s basic geometry. The sum of the lengths of two sides of a triangle is always greater than the length of the third side.

In this specific scenario, the car on the right (cutting the corner) will almost always beat the car on the left (navigating the corner) onto the straight. The subsequent debate over who was at fault, and whether the driver who abandoned track limits gained an unfair advantage and is required to surrender the position, is an entirely separate, highly complex bureaucratic headache.

To summarize: Verstappen, positioned on the right, absolutely should have beaten Kai, positioned on the left, onto the straight.

However, moments ago, Verstappen had absorbed the massive reactionary force of the impact, causing him to suffer a catastrophic loss of balance. His tires lost traction, the chassis violently spun, and amidst the dizzying chaos, he had completely, entirely lost his orientation.

Trapped in the epicenter of the crisis, Verstappen also put his phenomenal, elite car control on full display. He didn’t desperately attempt to fight the spin. Instead, he leaned into the momentum, flawlessly executing a spectacular 360-degree donut. By utilizing the continuous rotation, he successfully neutralized the massive centrifugal and reactionary forces. When he finally re-established control, executing the necessary steering corrections proved entirely effortless.

His next objective: rocket in a straight line to exit the chicane area and blast onto the short straight.

The result? Verstappen was horrified to discover he was trapped firmly behind Kai.

But it didn’t end there! Kai, who already held the positional advantage, actually pushed his luck even further! He wasn’t satisfied with simply maintaining the optimal racing line. He actually violently thrust his chassis outward, exactly like a massive spear, brutally severing Verstappen’s only available path forward.

Verstappen, who was already dizzy and completely consumed by boiling rage, genuinely couldn’t believe his own eyes. The blazing inferno in his chest instantly, violently spiraled completely out of control.

Verstappen screamed into the radio. ”What the [BEEP]! What the hell is he doing?! Has his brain completely flooded with water?! He did that intentionally! It was 100% intentional! He actively attempted to violently ram me completely off the circuit! This is not [BEEP]ing bumper cars! He’s trying to deploy dirty, pathetic street-racing tactics on a professional circuit! For the love of God! This is Formula 1! This isn’t some pathetic, slum-dwelling street brawl!”

Obviously, Kai’s maneuver had been entirely intentional. But he also knew with absolute certainty that it didn’t violate any sporting regulations. He was simply executing a highly dynamic, real-time response amidst massive chaos and crisis. Everything was driven entirely by pure reflex—

He simply had absolutely no other choice.

The FIA and Red Bull could both go straight to hell!

Completely ignoring the furious, screaming Verstappen in his rearview mirrors, Kai utilized flawlessly smooth, completely uninterrupted steering inputs to maintain absolute control over the chassis. He blasted forward with only millimeters separating his tires from the concrete barrier. He violently extracted 100% of the Ferrari engine’s power on the short straight. The majestic, terrifying visual of the scarlet blur completely suffocated the awe-struck exclamations of the entire crowd.

The VIP terrace fell completely silent.

The elite guests stood completely frozen in place, staring unblinkingly, entirely captivated. They had even completely forgotten to breathe. Every single superficial social pleasantry and diplomatic interaction ceased to matter. Their eyes were locked unblinkingly onto that scarlet blur trailing a massive tail of aerodynamic wake. It looked exactly like a brilliant comet suddenly materializing in the sky, completely obliterating the light of all other stars—

VROOM! VROOM! VROOM!

With unstoppable, tyrannical momentum, he blasted through the Swimming Pool chicane. The violent, hurricane-force wind slammed into the terrace. It wasn’t until a stray drop of condensation from a champagne flute slid down a finger that the guests finally snapped back to reality.

”AH!”

”AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”

They completely abandoned all rationality, losing themselves entirely in the moment, screaming with wild, uninhibited passion.

What exactly had they just witnessed? Good god, what on Earth had they just witnessed with their own eyes?!

Close-quarters combat! Bayonets drawn! The two young prodigies had rolled up their sleeves and engaged in a brutal, wheel-to-wheel, physical brawl! The uncompromising, head-to-head clash of titans had completely detonated the entire venue!

The advantage swung violently from Kai, to Verstappen, and then violently back to Kai. In a few brief, terrifying seconds, the momentum had repeatedly bounced between the ocean and the inferno. Their hearts had completely failed to keep up with the rhythm and were now completely paralyzed—

Who said overtaking in Monaco was impossible? Who said Monaco was incapable of producing legendary, iconic moments? Who said that after Kai’s overcut attempt failed, the race was essentially over?

BOOM!

The entirety of Monaco was violently sucked into the hurricane. Everything had occurred too suddenly, and too rapidly. The collective brainpower of the entire crowd completely crashed.

While Crofty was clutching his chest in the broadcast booth, repeatedly gasping ”Unbelievable!”, the pit walls had already initiated a massive, brutal political war. The intensity of their combat was absolutely on par with the bayonets-drawn dogfight on the asphalt.

Binotto was currently projecting an unprecedented, terrifyingly aggressive posture. ”That was a blatant violation of the sporting regulations! No! The position is rightfully ours! But he absolutely must be issued a time penalty! Intentionally causing a high-speed collision! Not just a time penalty! He absolutely must be issued penalty points on his Super License! We absolutely cannot tolerate this level of reckless, dangerous aggression!”

Aggressive. Relentless. Entirely uncompromising—

Did Red Bull seriously believe Ferrari was just going to meekly swallow the injustice and remain silent? The classic strategy of ’the guilty party striking first’ absolutely wasn’t an exclusive tactic restricted to Christian Horner.

Simultaneously, Horner was desperately attempting to establish an emergency comm link with the race stewards, only to be repeatedly informed that... the line was busy.

Horner was instantly consumed by blinding rage. He didn’t even need to turn his head to look at the Ferrari pit wall. He knew with 100% certainty that Binotto was currently monopolizing the line.

When Horner finally successfully connected with the stewards, his explosive emotions violently erupted. ”Malicious blocking on the track! Time penalty! This is an absolutely unacceptable, blatant violation! Kai must be ordered to surrender the position immediately! Furthermore, he must be issued a severe time penalty! Employing such disgusting, dirty tactics completely destroys the dignity and integrity of this sport!”

Lightning flashed, and thunder roared. A massive, violent storm raged as the Ferrari and Red Bull pit walls engaged in a brutal, high-stakes political brawl.

The FIA had once again been transformed into the meat in a highly toxic sandwich, trapped in the epicenter of a furious, two-pronged assault. However, this was undeniably the specific environment they were most familiar with and highly adept at managing. Exactly like a seasoned circus acrobat, they expertly maintained their balance amidst the absolute chaos.

It wasn’t just Ferrari and Red Bull. The Mercedes-Benz pit wall was also obsessively monitoring the fallout. The absolute, perfect scenario for them was for Kai and Verstappen to mutually destroy each other, suffering catastrophic damage. Mercedes-Benz would happily sweep up the pieces. Not only would Hamilton benefit, but Bottas could easily reclaim P2. For Mercedes-Benz, this specific race—

There had simply been far too many catastrophic variables. The rhythm had been violently shattered repeatedly. Although they still firmly maintained control of the board, and the situation hadn’t yet devolved into an absolute nightmare scenario... if Kai and Verstappen swapped positions, the massive, suffocating pressure bearing down on Mercedes-Benz would exponentially double. That was a scenario they absolutely did not want to entertain.

The 2019 Monaco Grand Prix was completely saturated with terrifying, unpredictable variables. Even considering Monaco’s historic reputation for catastrophic accidents, the massive, violent hurricane currently raging was completely abnormal.

It was highly unpredictable. It was fundamentally impossible to control. That brutal reality applied to absolutely everyone.
