Daddy Always Gets Jealous

”So you’re moving over there to live?”

Hearing his voice devoid of any warmth, Che Huan looked at Huo Jinnan.

Huo Jinnan sat there, clicking a lighter to life. In the rearview mirror, he saw Che Huan, touched a cigarette, then put it back, and soon extinguished the lighter. After waiting a few minutes, he spoke out with a deep voice, ”Wait there, I’ll come over.”

After hanging up the phone, he turned back to Che Huan, ”We’re going to Phoenix Nest.”

To Jinxue’s place?

Che Huan looked at Huo Jinnan, ”Mhm.”

Huo Jinnan took a turn in another direction, heading to Phoenix Nest.

Huo Jinxue looked at the old master, thinking of what Che Huan had said that day. If it was true, then grandfather was too frightening!

”Grandpa, I’m quite comfortable living here, really no need to go back.”

”Aunt Shen, go help Axue pack her things.” The old master glanced at Aunt Shen.

Aunt Shen acknowledged and went to Huo Jinxue’s room.

Huo Jinxue looked at the old master, ”Grandpa, I—”

The old master sat there, smiling genially at Huo Jinxue, cutting off her next words, ”Axue, I know you’re still upset with grandpa over your mother’s matter...”

Thinking of the words Che Huan had said, Huo Jinxue raised her voice a notch, ”I am not moving back in!”

The old master was taken aback, looked at Huo Jinxue for a while, and then swept his gaze around the room, ”Look at how poor the conditions are here, is this a place to live? You have never suffered since childhood, can’t cook, the food from outside isn’t hygienic and gives no peace of mind, you can’t cook yourself, look, you have lost so much weight.”

Huo Jinxue, afraid that grandpa would ignore her words, raised her voice a lot, ”I have actually gained two pounds recently!”

The old master continued to look at Huo Jinxue, silent for a long time.

Huo Jinxue turned and went to her room, ”Aunt Shen, put my things down, stop packing.”

Aunt Shen smiled at Huo Jinxue, ”Miss, you should move back. Your grandpa has been talking about you lately, he really misses you and Abei.”

Huo Jinxue looked at Aunt Shen, ”And you don’t miss my second brother?”

Thinking of the second young master, whom the old master hardly ever mentioned, Aunt Shen’s face turned awkward.

Huo Jinxue watched, beginning to understand—did grandpa think she and her third brother were pushovers easy to control? If it had been her second brother, would he have acted without consulting him, directly ordering Aunt Shen to pack his things?

Of course not!

Thinking back to the day she returned to the old house, standing at the doorstep before entering, she heard words that now drained the color from her face—

Uncle Guan, ”Aunt Shen, tidy up the miss’s and the third young master’s rooms.”

Aunt Shen, ”Uncle Guan, are the miss and the third young master coming back?”

Uncle Guan shook his head, ”The old master intends to bring the miss and third young master back to live here.”

Aunt Shen sighed, ”That’s great, such a big place is now so empty.”

Uncle Guan looked at Aunt Shen, ”Yes, the old master has been in a bad mood lately, always needs someone to fill the absence of the young miss and the heir-apparent. Be attentive, the old master might just choose the third young master to be his successor to groom carefully.”

...

Each sentence became clearer in her ears!

Huo Jinxue came back to her senses, snatched the clothes Aunt Shen was folding, ”Put them down, get out of my room.”

Aunt Shen was startled, looking at Huo Jinxue. She had never seen this side of the miss, who always seemed agreeable.

Just then, the old master came in, ”Axue.”

Huo Jinxue turned to look at the old master, thinking if what Che Huan said was true, then grandpa had used Fang Tong to take advantage of her, ”Grandpa, there is something I need to ask you.”

The old master signaled Aunt Shen to leave first, ”Ask.”

Huo Jinxue fixed her gaze on him, ”Do you know about my sister-in-law’s pregnancy?”
