Cursed Immortality

Chapter 992: Star Auction Virtual House! (8)

The unexpected turn of events for item no.29 shocked everyone present at the auction, and quickly, the name ’Champion King’ started to surface again after many years of his absence.

The absolute factions were confused by how the Champion King managed to redeem himself from the Star Criminal status, while the Zodiac Warrior Alliance would be thrown into chaos.

However, the most regrettable thing was still losing the map of the Yang Flame to the Champion King. Those who knew about his past activities knew it would be extremely challenging, if not impossible.

Nyx also reported this news of failure to Jacob, and he was also surprised when he heard about Champion King’s sudden appearance in the auction.

”Stealing from a thief is more profitable than stealing from an honest man...” Jacob muttered with a hint of regret.

”Now what?” Nyx inquired with a hint of apprehension. She was clearly afraid that Jacob would blame her for losing the map.

However, Jacob wasn’t unreasonable; he had already predicted a scenario like this. After all, from the start, he had been focusing on increasing his own power, not on gathering wealth, so he naturally couldn’t match the wealth of those old powers, especially if they decided to team up against him.

Nonetheless, the Champion King getting that map was equally annoying or even more so than those factions. After he had met the Champion King for the first time, Jacob knew that without his true form, he couldn’t defeat the giant. Not to mention that, after he tricked him, if he appeared as the Soulless Ghost King again, he would fight him to the death.

”Now...nothing. From the description of that map, it’s quite clear that even if they knew where this cosmic gateway was located, they couldn’t enter it without a ’key’ or something similar. And I’m more than sure that this ’key’ is still in my control, or at least what I have should be an utmost requirement to get the Yang Flame.”

His eyes flickered with killing intent. ”As for the Champion King, if he gets in my way, I’ll make him truly vanish from the face of the legendary plains this time around, and ransack his den.”

”Hehe~ I knew this won’t affect your plans much.” Nyx quickly agreed with a hint of relief.

Jacob didn’t expose her and move on. ”Since I got the Lightning Law Essence from this auction, it could be considered a success. What about the final item?”

”Oh, that auction guy just revealed it.” Nyx quickly reported with a hint of curiosity, ”How curious, it’s an ’Unknown Dead Egg’ and its description said that it was unearthed from an unknown island from the deep regions of the Star Ocean. Since it is a Dead Egg, the SAAI couldn’t apprise its origin completely.

”But the reason for it being the final item is, despite being dead for an unknown period, the Egg isn’t rotten, and filled with traces of profound laws, and not just one law.

”So, it’s being sold as a ’natural law tonic’ which can allow any legendary king to gain enlightenment in their own law, deepen their own comprehension, or there is even a possibility to gain enlightenment in a law concept!”

Jacob’s was astounded, ’A Dead Egg of an unknown being that, despite being dead, isn’t rotten, but it can also help a legendary king gain enlightenment into their laws? No wonder it’s the last item of this auction. But why would someone be willing to auction it instead of using it themselves? After all, if someone can comprehend the first concept of their laws, they can become a legendary king.’

”What’s the starting bid?” Jacob inquired since his interest was piqued.

After all, he has 12 laws and has already grasped their first concepts, but to understand the second concepts, he needed a deeper understanding of these laws. He also needed to master the first concepts to their fullest extent to gain enlightenment into their second concepts.

Since he was currently in the Legendary Plains, having first concept was enough, and there were so many things on his plate that he couldn’t focus on the laws right now. But having that egg won’t be a bad thing either.

”Well, the seller wants to exchange it for something other than the star crystals.” Nyx replied, and her voice sounded somewhat strange yet amused as she revealed, ”The seller wants to hire a Legendary King for 1 year as their ’Guardian’.”

Jacob was startled and inquired, ”Isn’t this just a recruitment announcement? Furthermore, how will the winner be decided if more than one legendary king is willing to become their guardian? Not to mention, isn’t this guy afraid that the legendary king will directly rob him?”

”Hehe~ that’s what I was thinking until the auction spirit announced that the bid is about the ’years’. Meaning, if more than one legendary king is interested, they can increase the years of their services, and not only that, but to protect the seller, a strict soul contract will be added, directly overseen by SAAI, which the seller has already paid for. There are no loopholes in this.” Nyx replied.

However, in Jacob’s mind, this wasn’t actually a bad thing; in fact, he found this a huge boon, as a cold smile formed on his face. ”If that’s the case, participate and bid for this egg. No matter how many years, I’ll personally sign this contract.”

Nyx seemed to have understood his hidden meaning and quickly agreed happily, ”I was waiting for you to say it! Don’t worry, I’m sure those arrogant legendary kings won’t be willing to become someone’s guardian for a long duration. Especially with the war brewing between the living and the dead factions on the horizon. The highest bidder currently only bids for 4 years, and no one is following.”

”Do as you see fit.” Jacob was satisfied with Nyx’s performance, before he added another thing, ”After this auction, I want you to start working on your plan. I want as much lifespan as we can get from the legendary plains!”

Nyx became silent before she hesitantly inquired, ”Do you really want to do this? Going after Star Network like this? I still think it’s safer if we follow my initial plan.”

Jacob replied without hesitation in a resolute tone, ”It’s too slow, the second one is much faster and suits my need perfectly. If you want, use the first plan as a trial run and refine the original method.

”Remember, we are being hunted by a possible god who can lock on my location as he wishes. Since Star Network can’t even impose its so-called rules on him, there is a need for me to be polite, too!”
