Cursed Immortality

Chapter 980: Timeless Sand

After getting an overview of the ATLAS’s Constants, Jacob replied to Constant Baron-0’s question, ”Yes, I can ’END’ a Constant Noble.”

Constant Baron-0 seemed both astounded and fearful as she asked, ”How about a Constant Baron?”

”I can. But why are you asking me this?” Jacob glanced at her reproachfully. ”Unless you want me to kill a Constant Noble or Constant Baron?”

Constant Baron-0 became silent, but she didn’t refute Jacob’s assertion and revealed, ”Since you want to know about the secret of SAAI and Undying Will, as long as you can help me ’take care’ of a problematic variable, I’ll give you that information. However, the Lord’s task came first, period. If it’s impossible, forget I ever said anything, and you better forget about your personal vendetta!”

Jacob wanted to scoff, but he remained impassive. Furthermore, what Constant Baron-0 asked him to do was completely aligned with his primary goal of coming to the Timeless City.

However, after witnessing the security and the formations in this place, Jacob knew that if he wanted to kill the constants in this place, he could only do it with his true body, or if he used the Soulless Ghost King’s identity, he would be caught.

But now, Constant Baron-0’s ’selfishness’ has opened a way for him to bypass this problem, and he didn’t even need to waste time searching for it.

”It is not a problem.” Jacob impassively stated, ”But, can I even move against a Constant Noble within the Timeless City without raising an alarm? If there is a way to remain incognito, I can ’take care’ of anyone Constant Noble or Constant Baron.”

Constant Baron-0 was astounded by Jacob’s confidence, but a shrewd light flashed past her eyes. ’He didn’t even hesitate to take on this task without the Lord’s permission. He’s definitely started to go awry...’

Despite her dark thoughts, Constant Baron-0 remained calm and replied, ”Don’t worry, I can help you with that.”

”If that’s the case, then who needed to be taken care of?” Jacob ambiguously inquired.

”Currently, I’m a ’0’ number Constant Baron, which means I will be guaranteed a Constant Viscount the moment a slot opens in the Upper Plains. However, the problem is that a Constant Viscount has a vastly different existence from a Constant Baron because they are Mythical Kings, ranked above the Legendary King.

”The world of a Mythical King is entirely different from a Legendary King, and they need vast resources to improve their ranks in the Upper Plains further. Moreover, a few prerequisites are required to become a Mythical King, which are all thoroughly controlled by the big factions.

”That’s why, without the backing of a powerful organization, it is impossible to become a Mythical King. It is even more impossible for people of Legendary Plains who require an Ascension Permit first to ascend into the Upper Plains.

”For this reason, no one wants to miss a chance to become a Mythical King and touch the realm of the Gods. Since I’m the closest to it, this also made a target of not only the Constant Viscounts of the Upper Plains but also the other Constant Barons with single-digit numbers.” Constant Baron-0 gravely stated.

At this moment, it finally dawned on Jacob as he looked at Constant Baron-0, and he asked, ”So, what you’re saying is those Constant Viscounts won’t let just anyone become a Mythical King because this would mean sharing their own resources.

”Furthermore, they had their own followers, so they naturally favored them over you. But don’t you have your backing? After all, you are closest to becoming a Constant Viscount, which means, roping you in should be far easier than promoting their own followers who might be far back in line.

”I can already understand that you might not be killable, but if you died now, you’ll be demoted to a Constant Noble, which means those ranks behind you will be automatically promoted.

”But can they really kill all the constant barons until their own candidate takes the spot? Won’t it simply cause chaos among the ATLAS? And what guarantee did they have to succeed even if their own candidate became a ’0’, the others can do the same thing to them.”

Jacob raised these questions because he wanted to know more about the Constants, why they were fighting against each other, and whether the ATLAS secretly allowed this.

Although there were many loopholes in this system, Jacob knew he had yet to truly understand everything about ATLAS, so he didn’t immediately create a conjecture.

Constant Baron-0 was also startled by Jacob’s intellectual ability, and she started to become wary of him and vowed to ’alert’ the Lord about this.

”It wasn’t like I didn’t have a backing. It’s just that my backer has been missing for hundreds of years. I wasn’t able to contact her. Furthermore, I was also approached by others with offers, but I can’t accept them because of my backer, which is a secret I can’t casually reveal to you.

”You are also right about the easiest way to raise a constant ranking is to kill the one ahead of them. But the thing is, a Constant can’t kill a constant even if they want to, no matter how high their rank is, unless they are like the Lord.”

Jacob was astounded by the last part and asked, ”Then what’s the problem? If they can’t kill you, you can simply ignore them.”

”Heh, it was only that simple. I only said a constant can’t kill a constant, but I never said there is no other way to increase their rankings.” Constant Baron-0 scoffed.

”What is this ’way’ exactly?”

Constant Baron-0 sternly explained, ”If Constants want to increase their rankings within the limitation of their ’title groups,’ they can do it by completing Constant Missions or providing important information. This will earn them ’Grains of Timeless Sand,’ which is a currency among Constants and the currency of Timeless Hourglass.

”This Timeless Sand is different from the Timeless Sand I’ve told you about before because it is ’Unrefined,’ which makes it ownerless, while the Timeless Sand in our individual hourglass is ’refined,’ which means it has an owner.

”But whether the Timeless Sand is ’Unrefined’ or ’Refined’, it can be traded with other Constants, with the only difference being that the ’Unrefined Timeless Sand’ cannot be ’Refined’ and turn into our own. Even if we trade our own ’Refined Timeless Sand’, it’ll become ’Unrefined’ the moment someone else gets it.”

With a hesitant pause, Constant Baron-0 revealed, ”However, this doesn’t make the ’Unrefined Timeless Sand’ useless; in fact, it is as important and precious as the Refined Timeless Sand because it can be used for not only trading but also to increase number rankings!”
