Chapter 1624: Chapter 75: The Beginning of the Wild Night

When the flying car Fatty was riding approached Devil’s Paradise along the highway... as a group of young people stood at the entrance of Devil’s Paradise, ready for confrontation, watching a line of luxury flying cars bearing family emblems drive up, the news of Margaret’s gathering had already spread through Feiyang’s upper echelon.

Those who know a bit of the inside story but lack the qualification to participate can effortlessly imagine how those cunning veterans of Chen Mansion are digesting this news intently in the dark, how they are dialing the numbers of their offspring.

Even if they can’t guess what the contenders of this grand hunting party will say or do. However, this night is like a sky already heavy with black clouds, everyone knows that the storm is inevitable.

Just like the lyrics softly crooned by a tavern singer 1,800 meters below.

”Who gets drenched in the rain, who watches the drama under the eaves?

Is it a gentle drizzling rain or a world-destroying Thunderbolt, it’s a mystery.”

Human civilization has developed to the point where technology has far surpassed the imagination of ancient Earthlings, yet some things never change. Just as throughout history and now, whether under imperial systems or democratic ones, power and wealth ultimately remain in the hands of a few.

The systems differ, but the results are the same, which is a satire.

Thinking deeply about its meaning is enough to make any idealist who doesn’t wish to be raped by life abandon their struggle and jump off a cliff in despair.

This world, fundamentally, is not fair!

While you’re working diligently and steadily, climbing uphill step by step with difficulty, some people are predestined to leap to great heights due to a surname.

However, compared to those bloodsucking aristocrats and dictatorial emperors of the Western Alliance, at least in countries like Feiyang, power is checked and balanced by various elite families — it’s not determined by one family, but several families, perhaps this is the greatest democracy.

The public usually finds it hard to penetrate the clouds and see higher above.

It’s like standing on the street of 9th Street, where you can only see dazzling neon lights, yet can’t see the splendid Devil’s Paradise atop the Alaska Space City.

They deal with grassroots government officials, occasionally seeing congressmen solicit votes on the street, and at most, take a photo with a mayor conducting outreach activities.

They don’t know that behind those generals, ministers, congressmen they view as unattainable, there’s an invisible line pulling and controlling their every move.

They also don’t know that their votes, even before they cast them, already have a result.

How this country is governed, who becomes the President, truly has nothing to do with them. These old family clans who’ve controlled the country for centuries only need one phone call or negotiation among themselves to lead millions of ignorant citizens to the polling station, cloaking their decisions under the guise of democracy.

When you hold the ballot and find you can only choose from these few candidates for election...

When some candidates expose scandals, and some withdraw from the race...

When you delight in finding that someone’s policy aligns perfectly with your hopes...

You won’t know all of this is just a necessity. Not your need, but the need of those standing at the pyramid’s peak, overlooking the world.

The right to make decisions about the competition isn’t in your hands, but theirs! They give you candidates, you choose. They might not influence your decision, but their controlled media can affect most people’s decisions. As one of the minority, you can only comply, because this is democracy!

Only those who have reached or are approaching the clouds have the qualification to understand these. Only these people understand that the rumored Six Great Families are not just a ridiculous tale.

In imperial countries, the most chaotic time is when the emperor dies. In democratic nations, the most tense period is during the presidential election. Competing for national leadership and distributing interests and defining influence ranges, humanity has never shed its animal instincts.

At this moment, society regresses into a primitive jungle full of temptation and danger, opportunity, and traps.

Those lazy Fierce Beasts leave their warm dens and slowly emerge from the shrubs. When the beautiful spotted deer appears, their instincts drive them to excitement, anxiety, with eyes bloodshot, eager to try!

After Francis’s death, a new deer hunting contest has already begun.

And when that Military God, who practically governed the country for thirty years, is now in the countdown of a terminal illness, proving he’s still a mortal who ages, sickens, and dies... It is foreseeable that this contest will be more complex and bloody than any before.

Hastings’ return signifies that the competition is becoming fierce. Those hiding in the dark are continuously thinking, calculating.

The intention behind Margaret initiating this gathering is very clear. This is a probing action, an open attempt to win over others before the main event begins.

Although these invited members of the younger generation are still far from the status of clan leaders, each of them is an heir with significant influence over their respective families.
