Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 1587: Chapter 54: Shockwave of Victory (2)

He glanced at the journalist from the Ryan Republic sitting next to him and hesitated for a moment.

”Secondly, it might also be ready to deliver a slap to the face of the Fei Alliance Joint Congress!”

It was the journalist from the Ryan Republic speaking, the elegant middle-aged man smiled faintly and said, ”Don’t worry about me. Although the one impeaching Marshal Hastings is the Ryan Defense Minister, he cannot represent all Ryan people. From the perspective of most Ryan journalists, those political scoundrels in the Alliance Council deserve a gun each and a trip to the battlefield.”

With journalists expressing their views from those inclined towards the United Parliament and the Leefer Group, the atmosphere suddenly became relaxed and lively.

”Indeed, upon hearing the proposal in the United Parliament, I couldn’t believe it. These filthy politicians, have they lost their basic conscience and discernment ability?” Harper said angrily, ”Calling a deer a horse, confusing black and white, their shamelessness in seeking power is extreme! If they hadn’t repeatedly vetoed military procurement budgets and war preparation proposals, how could we have suffered such severe losses in the early stages of the war?”

As he became more agitated, Harper placed his coffee cup heavily on the coffee table, filled with righteous indignation, ”When the war broke out, they were silent like cowards. Now that things are calm, they jump out, wanting to audit military spending of various countries and control the allied forces’ military expenses, interfere in the appointment of allied commanders, meddle in the deployment of allied troops, and even help arms dealers exert pressure on the bandit army. Their shamelessness is extreme!”

Everyone fell silent for a moment.

A journalist from Tatania said heavily, ”This world always has such people. In times of peace, they collude with officials and businessmen, monopolize industries, exploit the people using their power, and use thugs, legal tricks, and bribed judges to oppress the good. Who can expect such people to become good and just in wartime?”

He gently stirred the tea in front of him, ”Only by truly experiencing war up close can we know who is fighting for their family and country, and who is using their wise eyes to examine this vast and decaying Alliance, exhausting their efforts to find a path to victory.”

He lowered his head while speaking slowly, suddenly letting out a cold smile, ”Impeaching Marshal Hastings for inaction— isn’t it just to put their people in that seat to gain greater profits? If it weren’t for the Marshal, could the Fei Alliance have endured till now?”

”Well said!” Harper agreed, winking, ”Do you know what my first thought was when I got the news that the bandit army defeated Auben?”

He laughed heartily, raising his coffee cup, ”My thought was, that was a beautiful slap! I really want to go to the United Parliament to see the faces of those people when they realize the public opinion they guided is dominated by the shockwave of the explosive news of Auben’s death. Bravo to the bandit army, we should raise a cup for this!”

Harper’s words brought a loud cheer from everyone, several people raised their tea or coffee and clinked them hard.

Looking at the middle-aged colleagues still fooling around like children, William shook his head quietly, ”Perhaps not everyone’s submitted articles will be published in full.”

The atmosphere cooled down, everyone looked at each other, all sighing. They all knew that sometimes the truth would be covered up. They could know the truth, send their articles back, yet under political pressure, the articles might be altered beyond recognition, or merely become unnoticed brief news, or...be locked away in a drawer!

Others are fine, but for Feiyang and Ryan, it’s quite problematic.

With a bitter smile at the corner of his mouth, William said, ”If you weren’t personally in the Southeast Star Domain, who would know what’s really happening in this region? It’s hard to imagine the pressure endured by both the military forces fighting here and the people living here. Compared to other war zones, the war in the Southeast Star Domain is fiercer, and the cost paid by people here is higher!”

His voice seemed somewhat cold and heavy amidst the noise.

He took a sip of coffee, and said slowly, ”My greatest wish is to go to the Leray Federation and observe what allows this country to withstand attacks from several major Empires of the Western Alliance until now, and what enables their soldiers, even when their nation is divided, to still influence the entire Southeast Star Domain.”

Saying this, William turned his head and looked out the window. The distressed little boy on the street had been coaxed into laughter by his mother, holding her hand and turning the street corner.

The sun reflected off the glass of the shop windows on the street corner, casting a bright light on the bustling street.

Drinking coffee quietly, without knowing how long it took.

Suddenly, William noticed that the street seemed to become more noisy. He stood up abruptly and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window with several journalists.

Outside the hotel on the commercial street, people were rushing quickly towards a certain direction. Some were lifting their heads and walking briskly, while some young people even started running with long strides. Amidst the noise, the entire world suddenly seemed to be boiling like boiling water.

The hotel café, which was peaceful and leisurely, also became chaotic following the street crowd. Some people looked around in confusion, some sprang up to rush to the windows, and some journalists had already grabbed their cameras and dashed out the door.

What’s happening? William pressed his head against the window, watching the crowd running westward on the street. He keenly observed that as people ran, they lifted their heads to look at something. The direction of their gaze seemed to be precisely the front of the Hanjing Hotel...thinking of this, a flash of inspiration hit William’s mind. He turned his head, and through the glass curtain wall of the building across, he saw what he intended to confirm.
