Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 1563: Chapter 44: Banners Gone with the Wind (Part 4)

Faced with the enemy’s onslaught like the Yangtze River, they can only fight desperately to stop them.

Fighting to the death once or twice is possible, mustering the courage, the mind blank, fighting for a minute or two is also possible. But who can withstand life-and-death combat for dozens of hours?!

The disadvantage of mecha performance and hand speed requires doubling the stamina consumption to compensate. When a person is exhausted to the limit and still has to continue fighting, that kind of pain is unimaginable to ordinary people. Without iron-like willpower, it would be absolutely impossible to persist until now.

The captain didn’t know how these bandit army mecha pilots managed to endure. After every battle, they seemed like they had just been pulled out of water, soaked with sweat. Their faces were pale, lips purple, as if they could collapse unconscious at any moment.

But when the enemy charged again, they would energetically meet them with mesmerizing control techniques, engaging in a tangle with the enemy.

A two-to-one kill ratio made it seem as if the bandit army’s Special Forces Camp was at a disadvantage.

However, recalling that battle in Catalonia led by ten Judger mechas, they could understand what a great victory killing nearly two hundred Judgers was!

This was a severe blow to the Binart Empire, the shattering of the invincible Judger myth.

This news was enough to bring millions of Fei Alliance citizens to the streets, singing and dancing in celebration for three days!

Now, the warriors who created this miracle sat quietly in the muddy trench, their officer clutching a cigarette burnt to the end, puffing away, occasionally grimacing from the pain in his calf and spitting with a grimace.

The captain exchanged a silent glance with his subordinates.

The mechas battered all over in the trenches made them worried.

No one knew how many bandit army soldiers would remain after the next attack. The enemy had gone mad. That leading Judger Mecha was charging the position almost insanely. At least twenty to thirty bandit army mecha pilots had died at his hands.

Last attack, when the enemy retreated like a tide, he was still charging towards the position, and finally, several Judgers had to pull him down desperately.

Next time, when that bastard charges the position again, how many of these less than a hundred bandit army soldiers will remain?

On the opposite hill, the glimpse of Western Alliance troops could be seen gathering.

The Suss people, who battered themselves on the Sunset Mountain Defense Line, already expended their last strength.

Mechas without a trace of smoke appeared on the hill. The numbers on their outer shells were vastly different from the previous attacking troops.

These were fresh troops from the Suss. One regiment, two regiments, three regiments... within just over ten minutes, the hidden observation post identified five different numbers.

On the front less than two kilometers wide at position 152, nearly two armored divisions were concentrated, and the enemy commander was clearly insane.

He’s planning to fill it with lives!

Apart from the massive heavy mechas and medium-sized mechas, the Suss Standard Single Soldier Mechas mostly exceed four meters in width. The space needed for running and fighting is at least ten meters. Otherwise, congestion and collision will occur.

In a typical battle, even in the most dense formation, the safety distance between mechas must be maintained at about eighteen meters. For the skirmish line attacking the high ground, this distance needs to be expanded.

The front of position 152 is less than two thousand meters wide. In a normal attack, only a hundred mechas can advance simultaneously in one row.

But now, the enemy deployed a full five regiments, nearly ten thousand mechas.

This means that even if each row squeezes in four hundred mechas, their attack lines would exceed twenty skirmish lines. The mechas at the forefront wouldn’t even have room to dodge. They must keep charging forward, surging towards position 152. Any pause, and they would be engulfed by the flood behind them.

As the Western Alliance mechas in front fell one by one amidst the dense firepower at position 152, their comrades behind them would fill their spots and continue to advance. As long as there were enough numbers, as long as enough sacrifices were made, they could break into the position.

This is the most primitive way of attack.

It’s also the most effective way in this battle, which has reached the utmost tragedy and intensity.

The captain’s face turned pale at this moment.

The area he was responsible for was only fifty meters wide. Even if he pulled up all the mechas from the rear hidden trench, along with a dozen bandit army mechas, he wasn’t confident in holding off this enemy attack.

The command just reinforced position 152 with two battalions. Even if they requested reinforcements now, it would be difficult for the troops to move up in a short time.

Is this battle going to end like this?

The captain turned his head, exchanged a glance with Stiller, and the two smiled wryly.

Before they could give orders, the warriors were already busy.

They set up all usable weapons at the firing positions. All operable mechas started their engines. The warriors hidden in trenches frantically charged forward, and a few wounded soldiers collected and bundled together fusion hand grenades like picking up gold pieces.

A determined atmosphere silently spread. Everyone was silently preparing for the final battle.

On the opposite hill, the Western Alliance mechas were already making their final preparations before the attack.

Several mechas with officer markings paced back and forth on the assault position. One by one, Suss Mechas stepped forward, entering the attack lineup.

On the distant left hill, hundreds of Suss Mechas began pouring out from the position. In the center, dozens of black Judgers appeared in sight.

”Sir,” the captain handed Stiller a cigarette, ”let us go first this time. When we can’t hold on, you go.”

”What are you saying?!” Stiller squinted his eyes slightly.

”Those bastards opposite have gone mad, we shouldn’t stoop to their level,” the captain boldly laughed, ”Sir, your General Tian has probably already captured Seven-star Town and Xiushui River Town by now. It won’t be long before our main force joins the counterattack.”

The sky’s clouds were as red as blood.

The captain’s face, calm and composed, in the smoke of the cigarette: ”This is the land of the Chuckna people, we owe you a lifetime of kindness. If we can survive, when the Allies counterattack Leray, brothers will repay your kindness, but for now, we still need you to help hold the last defense line.”

The Chuckna warriors in the trench quietly gathered around the captain.

”If we die, it’s up to you,” the captain glanced around, exchanging a serene look with his brothers, smiling as he extended his lighter to Stiller.

The tiny flame flickered before Stiller’s eyes.

On the opposite hill, the tidal wave of enemies had already surged down the mountainside. The piercing whistle of both sides’ artillery, like a train entering a tunnel, echoed horrifically in the sky.

Stiller placed the cigarette in his mouth and brought it close to the lighter, his eyes suddenly reddened.

”If you die, I will take rev...”

Before the word ’revenge’ left Stiller’s mouth, suddenly, from behind position 152, a loud bugle call for a charge sounded.

A series of short notes followed by a long note.

It was the Chuckna charge trumpet.

Looking back, the mountains and plains were filled, flags fluttering.
