Chapter 1566: Chapter 46: Massacre (Part 1)

The Chuckna Capital, Hanjing, is at midnight.

Looking up, the city’s iconic Sky Curtain Tower undulates with a bluish glow in the night, exceptionally charming. Occasionally, an atmospheric airliner, a cargo ship, or a shuttle from the Sky Tower’s halo pierces through the automatically opening light screen, descending toward distant airports.

The busiest airways are at the military base in the suburbs. Since the war began, the military bases built by Chuckna for the Allies have gradually connected into a cluster, already forming a new satellite city of Hanjing.

Although compared with the traditional seven satellite cities, there are no rows of space high-rises, no bustling commercial districts, yet, in terms of entertainment, it is not inferior to the most colorful nightlife in Queen’s District of Hanjing.

Hastings sat in a wheelchair, looking down at East Second District, not far from the base. The wind on the terrace was strong, causing the elderly man’s collar to flap wildly.

Li Cunxin stood beside him, his grayed beard and hair swaying in the wind, like an old lion still possessing fierce strength.

Inside the glass door behind them, the lights were bright. Seven or eight desks were arranged in two rows, with several secretaries busily working. Occasionally, someone would rise, holding documents, and push open the inner conference room door, entering quickly.

When the conference room door swung open, glimpses could be seen of generals in uniforms of various colors, either nervously watching the SkyNet screen or gathered around the electronic sandbox arguing heatedly. The light from the SkyNet computer constantly changed amidst swirling cigarette smoke.

McKinley walked up next to Hastings and Li Cunxin, saluted, then waited quietly.

He had just rushed over from the Aksa Allied Command Center, bringing not only ten Fei Alliance Armored Divisions and an A-grade fleet but also a document signed by President Francis.

With this document, Hastings could deploy six Group Fleets from the Fei Alliance’s most elite Double-headed Eagle Unit, ten Special Divisions and twenty Level 1 Divisions from the homeland to Chuckna. This was the full strength of the Feiyang nation’s guardianship force!

The deployment of the Double-headed Eagle Unit’s Second Division to participate in the Southeast Star Domain battle had already drawn criticism. Now, the complete withdrawal of all troops from the homeland, no one knows how much outrage will be voiced domestically. Those politicians, those military personnel seeing war as a path to advancement, those uninformed citizens... Hastings will be criticized by all!

Thirty years of supremacy have caused many Feiyang people to become excessively arrogant and selfish. As long as the War Fire has not reached Feiyang Republic’s homeland, the fate of other countries means nothing to them.

They will never understand that this war cannot be won relying solely on Feiyang Republic’s force. In truth, Feiyang is already at a juncture between life and death. The strong appearance is merely a bright facade. One knife would rip it apart!

If it weren’t for Hastings, Feiyang would have lost thirty years ago!

McKinley’s gaze passed through several tall buildings of the base, resting on the most prosperous precinct of the entire base. There the bars, beer halls, billiard rooms, nightclubs, cinemas, upscale restaurants, and hotels lined up one after another.

This is an era of war, in this era, soldiers are the centerpiece. TV news, movie novels, advertising posters, street conversations are dominated by the group image of those who defend the country with their lives.

When young recruits become the focal point of envy and admiration among classmates, when women of this era view marrying a soldier, who doesn’t worry about unemployment and is respected, as their most beautiful and realistic belonging, the military base in Hanjing’s suburb has become the new center of the city, and its surroundings are becoming increasingly lively.

Every night, the streets become bustling, and beautiful private Flying Cars gather here, public Flying Cars also operate all night between here and Hanjing City. Under flashing neon lights, the streets are filled with officers and soldiers in various national uniforms and laughing, charming ladies, forming the most characteristic scene of the era.

Here, there are orthodox soldiers who come just to have a non-alcoholic drink, listen to music, and return to camp on time. There’s those dressed sloppily, drunkenly causing trouble, fighting, and brawling. There’s shy girls who blush when approached and hide behind companions, and graceful, alluring white-collar beauties, as well as voluptuous, seductive call girls.

Flying Cars racing past, couples kissing as if no one were around, chaotic lights, swaying dance steps, intoxicating wine... Everywhere is permeated with a seductively addictive atmosphere.

Because the fourth reinforcement battle preparation time has not yet arrived, and because officers and soldiers on the edge of life and death need to release pressure, the upper ranks of the military do not avoid soldiers coming here for relaxation.

War extinguishes humanity, but if one is too tense even in the rear, people will eventually go mad.

However, speaking of order, East Second District seems much better compared to similar sites around military bases in any other country.

McKinley’s lips curved into a sly smile. The reason is simple, this is bandit army territory!

Although the bandit army’s First and Second Armored Divisions had already left before the third reinforcement troops set off for Canglang Star, the base is now occupied by units later brought from Gazalin. But, these troops composed of former Freedom Front warriors from Gazalin and the elite forces from Gordon and Hailig behave just like the previous two divisions.
