Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 185: Volume 3, Chapter 59: Continuing to Spit Blood at Others

Christina’s face was full of disdain and annoyance. Without even distinguishing the truth, her look and actions of disgust, wanting to avoid, invisibly confirmed the accusation of Martin’s self-degradation by going to Kazek’s red-light district. It seemed that Martin was indeed such a person. This made Martin’s face flush red and then pale. He yelled, ”Make it clear, who went to that place! You people should stop slandering me!”

Fatty naively said, ”You, it was you who went!”

Martin angrily replied, ”No!”

”You went!” Fatty said resolutely!

”I didn’t go!” Martin vehemently refuted!

”You went! I saw it with my own eyes!” Fatty said genuinely, as if telling Martin that he indeed went, and should stop denying it!

”No, you’re talking nonsense, I didn’t go!” Martin shouted in a rage.

Fatty, seeing Martin ”lying” in his face, felt a bit aggrieved and angry: ”You went, it was you!”

”No! It wasn’t me!” Martin was so furious that he started trembling all over.

”You went!” Fatty was also trembling with anger, his face turning blue.

”No...”

”You went, you went, you went, you went, you went, it was you, you’re lying.”

Fatty’s naïve face turned beet red, his neck thickened. He looked like an honest person being wronged, or like a righteous child fervently accusing a lying classmate in front of a teacher. This look of his won almost all the onlookers’ approval, and everyone began to stare at Martin more and more judgmentally.

Several noble youths standing next to Martin, who accompanied him, also felt extremely embarrassed. No matter who was lying, as a well-mannered noble youth, to argue with a seemingly stupid Fatty in such a scene was utterly humiliating. If this matter were to spread out, it wouldn’t matter much to Fatty, but Martin wouldn’t be able to hold his head up high anymore.

Martin felt dizzy and pained. In this noble gathering, being so publicly slandered by this guy in such an emotional and vivid manner left him unable to control his anger any longer. He swung his hand and tried to hit Fatty. His movement was fast, but Fatty dodged and pushed, and Martin fell to the ground.

Though Martin fell, it was Fatty who was frightened, as if he encountered a mad dog. He quickly took a few steps back and exclaimed, ”What are you doing? Why are you hitting people?”

Martin fell hard and saw stars, unable to reply to him.

Fatty didn’t give Martin a chance to catch his breath, angrily and disappointedly criticizing: ”What kind of upbringing is this! Hit people when exposed, don’t you have any sense of reason?” Fatty looked deeply pained and righteously indignant, as if he couldn’t understand why these nobles behaved this way. His honest face was filled with the anger and outrage of a righteous person who couldn’t bear it any longer. At this moment, he seemed to embody all the reasonability in the world.

People had already gathered in a circle; no one anticipated Martin would suddenly strike. Seeing him acting so frantically, it seemed he struck out of rage after being publicly exposed, causing an uproar among the crowd.

Fatty, feeling quite aggrieved, said to Ann Lei and Christina, ”Let’s go somewhere else, I don’t want to argue with him anymore!” He turned and looked disdainfully at Martin, who was just getting up from the ground, and scornfully said, ”This person is really shameless! Lying and hitting people! What kind of noble is this!”

Seeing Fatty’s righteous face, Ann Lei turned her head away, biting her lip to stifle her laughter. No one here knew this guy better than she did. This person naturally possessed the ability to be ludicrous, his actions and behavior were beyond normal people’s imagination. Accusing people so baselessly yet righteously calling others shameless and liars was really too despicable.

The situation escalated. Several noble youths who came to the ball with Martin didn’t want to see him suffer and stood up to stop Fatty. One of them said, ”Why, you want to leave after hitting someone?”

This was clearly unreasonable. Everyone had seen Martin strike first; Fatty just pushed back. However, since everyone belonged to this circle, although they looked down on it, no one pointed it out. In their hearts, this world only had distinctions between closeness and distance, not right or wrong, true or false. Moreover, the Gazalin Nobles Circle had long been engaged in factional intrigue, with a weak sense of right and wrong. Only because of the so-called noble qualities and upbringing, they occasionally reasoned things out. And for many noble youths, disgrace was far more severe than a mistake.

Christina angrily pointed at Martin, saying: ”He hit first, you all are being unreasonable!”

It would’ve been better if Christina didn’t speak. Once she did, the noble youths who already had conflicts with the Gordon family became more relentless. A noble youth named Carey jumped out and said, ”I didn’t see who hit first, I just saw this Fatty hit Martin!”

His father was the Gazalin Empire’s Minister of Propaganda and had issues with Gordon. Originally, Gazalin was a military-superior country. Back when Russell was around, the Military Department was even more dominant, with other departments acting like servants, always being called on. If there was any work contact, it was the non-military personnel who went back and forth, while the Military Department’s people acted like lords, not making a single move.

After Russell’s treason, Carey’s father faced difficulties in international propaganda, further challenged by the exposure of concentration camps. Gazalin’s propaganda was beaten down by the Leray Federation. James had severely scolded the Propaganda Minister. Eventually, through strict control over domestic propaganda, Carey’s father received recognition and awards from the Royal Family.
