Armed Train in the Apocalypse

When his eyes closed, the sounds by his ears instead grew even clearer.

He heard a kind of creaking, grinding noise, not faint, but violent, a vibration that carried a sense of Power.

It came from the ruins beneath him, from the corpses all around.

Just as he was puzzled, a whistle like the song of a whale drowned out all the battlefield clamor.

”Crash!”

The man felt himself being grabbed and hoisted up, shaken like a rag, then thrown onto some hard platform. The vibration turned the numbness in his body into a burst of sharp pain, like his whole frame had come apart.

”This one might still be alive. Let that doctor of yours, Lin Xia, take a look. He’s best at pulling bullets out.”

Lian Jin, wrapped head to toe in bandages, gave a low chuckle, released the handrail, leaped off the train, and slipped quietly into the battlefield.

The Armed Train was like an unreasonable city wall, tearing the battlefield right down the middle. Two hundred heavy machine guns opened fire at once, stuffing the biting air with a thick stink of gunpowder.

At the same time, the train also suffered the fiercest counterattack from the Four Nations reinforcements.

You might miss when shooting at people, but tiny bullets fired at a steel behemoth that stretched a full kilometer were hard to miss.

In an instant, rounds fell like rain. The old passengers inside the train felt like they’d returned to the Flood Zone; the bullets really did pound at the cars like waves.

The ordinary crew members brought in from Zhijin were still a bit shaken, but after waiting a while they realized not a single bullet could break through the train’s defenses, and slowly they relaxed.

Facing the train’s counterattack, however, the Four Nations Alliance was having a far worse time.

The ammo belts swept across, and a swath of soldiers were instantly dismembered into the smallest chunks of flesh. Blood mist sprayed more than five meters high, shrouding the whole battlefield.

Violent Pan Energy fluctuations flashed by—ice shields, flames, earthen walls, wind walls, mechanical fortifications... a dozen dazzling Abilities unfolded in front of the train, trying to stop this steel monstrosity.

The train only adjusted the angle of the Alps Hammer, then rammed straight through. No matter what Ability it was, before a train weighing tens of thousands of tons, everything was easily crushed.

”Boom!”

A landmine detonated, a cloud of smoke and dust rising under the locomotive’s nose, but the train on the ground did not budge an inch.

Red lights flickered inside the engine compartment.

”Front treads damaged. The enemy likely has a Metal manipulator.”

”Does it affect the train’s movement?”

Yu Yue, who had taken over command of the train, asked.

”Propulsion is intact. We can keep moving.”

Yu Yue stayed calm. According to Xiaoba, Metal that had been fused with new materials was no longer so ”pure.” To manipulate a train whose structure was mainly Tier Two materials, you’d at least have to be a Tier Two or higher Metal manipulator.

Yu Yue mused, ”Keep advancing. Focus on killing ordinary enemy soldiers. By the way, how many people are left in the combat group?”

Beside him, Lao San’s face was ugly. ”Most of them were taken away by Licking Rabbit. No idea when they’ll be back. I’ve only got twenty men in my hand, ready to deploy anytime!”

Yu Yue shook his head decisively. ”The enemy has a lot of Tier Three Evolvers. Our advantage is the train. Without my order, nobody is allowed to leave the train. Lao San, take the remaining men and guard the key cars.”

”Understood!”

After Lao San left, Yu Yue compressed her voice and sent it into Lian Jin’s ear outside.

If it weren’t for a Tier Two Evolver in the Four Nations specialized in sound waves constantly wrestling with her for control, it wouldn’t be this troublesome—she had to be cautious even to pass a single sentence.

”What kind of Ability is this? Feels like cheating.”

On the other end came Lian Jin’s exclamation, along with the muffled crack of breaking bones.

”I’m Yu Yue. This is my Ability. Can I ask you a favor?”

”What ’ask’ or not—right now I’m temporarily counted as one of the train’s people. Since you’re commanding the train, you naturally can command me. Just give the order!”

Lian Jin’s straightforwardness eased Yu Yue’s psychological burden. She said, ”We don’t have much combat strength on board at the moment. I need you to look for He Jie.”

”Heh, that guy’s not dead yet? I thought he’d already died for his country. Give me the position.”

”I’ll send the coordinates to that mechanical spider by your side. Based on the Pan Energy feedback, his Energy has grown weak...”

On the other side, just as Lian Jin picked up the mechanical spider in his hand, he saw a Chongying man with a katana step up to him. The guy looked very much like the Qianye he’d punched to death, only much older. Under the messy hair, his eyes were frighteningly bright.

Lian Jin blew out a slow breath. ”I can’t get away for now on my side. Hope that guy can hold out a bit longer.”

”How confident are you?”

Lian Jin unilaterally dispersed the sound waves gathered around him, then casually tore off a bandage from his body and wrapped it around his hand.

”You’re the one who killed Qianye?”

The man opposite asked in fluent Donghuang speech.

”Don’t know him.”

With a cold snort, Iron Fist smashed his fist ferociously toward the enemy.

The instant he struck, something suddenly felt wrong. At some point, the man in front of him had turned into Lord Lian’s gorgeous face, glaring at him in anger—exactly the way she’d always looked when she was about to beat him up since they were kids.

His rational mind knew it was impossible, but he still instinctively loosened the force in his hand.

The next moment, a woman drove a Short Knife viciously into his back.

And the ”big sis” before his eyes turned back into that Donghuang man, whose long blade at the same time sliced into his abdomen. There was triumph in the man’s eyes. ”This move was prepared for Qianye, but using it on you is even more fitting. This is what they call: all’s fair in war!”

”Remember to apologize to Old He for me.”

Lian Jin murmured.

Then his expression instantly twisted into something ferocious. The samurai felt a tremendous force surge up the long blade in his hand. His vigilance spiked to the limit; without the slightest hesitation he abandoned the sword and retreated—but Lian Jin’s hand was faster.
