Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Everyone’s faces immediately filled with anticipation.

They all knew the conductor was strong, but without a point of reference, no one knew how strong he really was.

And in battle, Su Huan mostly showed that berserk energy, rarely fighting personally; everyone was curious what level his basic attributes could reach.

Lin Jin’s eyes were practically blazing with light.

”Tier Two ’Fighting Expert’. It should be the most balanced Ability among ’Defenders’.”

Director Xu stressed.

”But I have a Tier Three class bonus, so it might not be accurate.”

Su Huan reminded him, and as he exerted force he triggered Inner Vision, instantly seeing energy trajectories even more precise than Pan-energy Perception.

The displayed number skyrocketed, shooting past 3000 kg and rapidly blasting through the 5000 kg mark.

But the speed then slowed, gradually breaking through 8000 kg. Everyone’s expressions grew serious, and the flames in Lin Jin’s eyes burned even more fiercely.

His own number just now was only 3100 kg—nearly three times lower!

’So this is the conductor’s true strength?’

When the number finally stopped, it had reached 8400 kg.

He Jie swore outright. ”How the hell is this ’balanced’?”

Just when everyone thought it was over, the Pan Energy on Su Huan’s body suddenly surged, and the number spiked again, reaching 9000 kg!

”What’s going on?”

”Holy shit!”

He Jie stared at Director Xu in shock. ”This has gotta count as cheating, right?!”

”One of my skills just broke through.”

Su Huan frowned and sat up. The energy in his body was surging out of control, and even Evolvers like He Jie who weren’t good at sensing Pan Energy could feel that violent power.

His genes were like a runaway carriage; once the reins were loosed, it couldn’t be stopped.

The reason Su Huan had been suppressing himself all along was that he’d foreseen this mad acceleration in evolution.

After being suppressed by the Lady of the House, he’d calmed down for a while, and he hadn’t expected that a simple test today, with a skill leveling up, would trigger a genetic rampage again.

Just as he was getting a headache over how to deal with it, a cool sensation spread out from his earring, flowing through his body and locking the rampaging energy in layer after layer of restraints.

It was just like when he advanced to Tier Three.

”Huh, your earring changed color!”

Yu Yue let out a soft cry.

Everyone looked at the conductor’s earring. The ring that had originally been gold and silver had become a pure black pendant, absorbing light as it quietly hung from his delicate earlobe, carrying a mysterious texture.

Su Huan took off the earring, and the coolness in his body gradually faded, but the evolution rampage had already been slammed on the brakes.

”This looks like a special material made through Energy Solidification too.”

Director Xu said in surprise.

The train had first discovered this kind of material in the Flood Zone, where Su Huan called down lightning on a crab for three days and literally enchanted a Tier Two crab. Later, Yu Jing took it away, saying she wanted to make an exoskeleton, but there’s still been no news.

Afterward, Director Xu did some small-scale research on this material, but because it was so rare, progress had been slow—until recently, when they obtained Black Kite’s Pan-energy weapon and used it to create a Pan-energy-consuming defensive device.

It’s currently being used on the [Defender] Power Armor.

”More or less. There’s a strand of pure Tier Three energy, but it’s hidden really deep.”

There was surprise in Su Huan’s eyes as well.

He hadn’t expected such a big problem to be solved by this little thing; he just didn’t know how long this energy would last.

”It’s fine now. Let’s move on to the next test.”

The small incident passed quickly.

The deck was once again filled with a heated atmosphere, each shout louder than the last.

Each test had multiple branches—for example, speed meant testing sprints, reaction time, limb frequency...

Defense meant testing skin toughness, impact resistance, bone strength, and so on.

Because there were too many people and too many test items, several assistants split up to help with the testing; Director Xu only handled the conductor’s side.

Very soon, all kinds of data were gathered together.

By the time the most complicated energy-oriented tests were done, it was already early morning, but no one present was tired. He Jie led a group of men around the strength testing area, sweating as they worked out. Whether they were body-focused or not, they were all enjoying it; every time they broke a record it was accompanied by wild roars.

The women weren’t nearly as interested in that. After finishing their tests, they brought up a pile of snacks and started a tea party off in the corner.

Tan Yunxi and Vice President Deng were arguing about something, getting more fired up by the minute, their big tails swishing back and forth.

A patch of moonlight sat quietly in a corner until she was spotted by a purple-haired woman. Looking at the girl before her who was like the Moon God, Yin Yinan suddenly felt that Li Xinlong wasn’t that tempting anymore.

Li Han had long since lost the nervousness he’d had when he first boarded. Smugly, he showed off to Huang Sea the new plant he’d been cultivating recently. The green vine in his hand grew like a magic trick, segment by segment, quickly reaching more than two meters in height. A pale yellow flower bloomed at the top, bending down, emitting a warm glow.

The huge glowing flower attracted a short figure, who used their tail to brace against the floor, shiftily looked around, and then scrambled straight into the hollow in the flower’s center, as skillfully as if they were crawling back into their mother’s pouch.

Hu Shuo watched all of this with a smile, putting everything he saw onto the page.

[...Compared to the very beginning of the apocalypse, people now prefer to wear clothes from before—the ones that are looser, more comfortable, and prettier—rather than constantly preparing for dangers that might appear from nowhere.]

After recording that line, Hu Shuo looked up and suddenly noticed Xiaozhao standing on a chair, holding a camera in her hands.

Hu Shuo walked over, a bit curious. ”Where’d you get the camera?”

Xiaozhao climbed down and smiled. ”I fixed it myself when I was bored. A lot of functions don’t work anymore, but the basic ones still do. Want to give it a try?”
