Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Their nascent intelligence was not enough to let them predict the cannon barrel.

Only the short Earth Ghost, the speed-type Night Demon, and the Hunter could barely escape.

The officer squad targeted these agile Tier Two Zombies specifically, with various grenades and heavy sniper rifles being deployed, and the sound of fifty or sixty heavy snipers almost merging into one. With powerful modern firepower, they forcibly pressed the zombie tide to the edge of Chenxi Square.

This scene was also seen clearly by the Black Star Convoy at the edge.

Because of Jiang Rong, they were not driven to the back to mix with the Scavengers, but were also forbidden from boarding the train to join the battle.

The armed train was no longer a small roadside force and had its own deployment and combat rhythm, and outsiders rushing in would only add uncontrollable risks.

So, He Jie would rather bear the combat losses than let his soldiers mix with a bunch of untrained women and children.

But staying in the hotel behind the train was not a guarantee of safety.

From time to time, Tier Two Zombies would break through the blockade with casualties, and the soldiers might not be able to eliminate them in time, requiring self-defense.

Fortunately, Chen Shan and others had recovered, and with the care of Li Xinlong and Jiang Rong, a few Tier Ones leading over a hundred Evolvers wouldn’t be slaughtered by Tier Twos, but they would lose some people each time.

Yuan Wei leaned against an earthen wall, panting heavily; the wall had just been smashed by a jumping Tier Two. It was Chen Shan who raised it with his Ability, only half the height. He knew very well that the wall’s strength was much lower than reinforced concrete, but the massive blood loss made lifting his hand difficult, let alone moving his body.

Moreover, where is there a safe place now?

The dozen or so people on the rooftop were directly devoured by a leaping zombie from above, and the few who ran down didn’t make a sound, likely being eaten by the zombies that survived Old Yang’s explosion. The remaining people could only anxiously stay between the tenth and twelfth floors, waiting for a war that they couldn’t lead but which dictated their fate to end.

The wall in front was illuminated by the gunfire and searchlights from behind, flickering light and dark, like a bizarre projection playing in turns,

with monsters as terrifying as gluttons, one chasing beasts the size of hills in armor, and also...

an increasingly larger shadow.

Running with claws and teeth bared.

It must be some Tier Two zombie, right?

Yuan Wei felt like he was watching an immersive short movie, feeling colder and his eyelids growing heavier.

He didn’t think of his parents or the old dog he raised for over a decade but instead thought of the dirty face of his neighbor.

The other party should be on the safe train now.

Survived.

In this world, it’s unclear if living is good or bad.

Whatever, it has nothing to do with me.

”Fool.”

”Live well.”

Yuan Wei’s head drooped, yet the chaotic sounds at his ears brought him back to consciousness.

The shadow on the wall was getting closer, and he seemed to hear clearly.

Is that...

calling his name?

Yuan Wei used all his strength to lift his head, just in time to see Chen Ziliang, wearing new clothes, prancing over.

The brightness in the other party’s eyes carried a sense that didn’t belong to this era.

Shouting his name loudly while checking every face along the way.

Soon he noticed him sitting on the ground.

Chen Ziliang, like a fourteen or fifteen-year-old teenager, came bouncing over.

He picked up something to feed him by the mouth, too dark to see clearly, with a touch of a bitter smile in his eyes. This guy still hadn’t kicked his habit of eating things randomly, but he didn’t have the strength to struggle, so he had to barely swallow according to his will.

A long-missed salty aroma filled his mouth instantly, activating his taste buds and his muddled mind.

Chen Ziliang said excitedly, ”I’ve been looking for you for a long time. This is meat, eat it quickly; there’s a lot on the train. I have food every day. When I’m hungry at night, I go out to find food. They gave me a lot of food, and I never have to look for food again. I’ll share half with you, you don’t have to go hunting anymore. There are many monsters outside, really, really big ones that eat people, very scary!”

”I wanted to kill you, you know?”

”Many times.”

Yuan Wei’s expression was strange, half-smiling, half-crying, not even daring to look into Chen Ziliang’s eyes.

Chen Ziliang stopped what he was doing, paused for a moment, and continued, ”Eat quickly, there’s still plenty left. We won’t have to die after eating, and later I won’t disturb your work. Just don’t hit me. I see everyone on the train is working, so I will have to work too in the future. We both can survive, we both can...”

Yuan Wei suddenly raised his eyes, seeing that Chen Ziliang’s eyes had a brightness not dimmed at all. He felt something stuck in his throat, struggling hard to force it out, but it slid out from his eyes.

”Fool.”
