Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 88: Chapter 85: The Orphanage Director’s Gold Standard

”Okay.”

Qi Xiaobai’s eyes, stark in their contrast of black and white, flashed with a hint of seriousness.

”How many people are left in each part of the train, and what are they doing?”

Yu Jing thought for a moment before responding, ”Both combat groups have been taken away. Regular passengers are behind carriage 18, with no tasks. The train crew’s defenders, doctors, and Linxia have been taken; only the translator, cook, construction engineer, drone operator, mechanic, and two Makers remain. In the front carriages, we have Huang Sea and his assistant Xiaowang, along with the three of us.”

”As for equipment, I only have an assault rifle with six magazines, and there’s a vehicle in the back.”

Xiaoba mused, ”The combat strength of the others is weak; it’s better for them to hide in the carriage. Sister Jing, you stay here with Sister Xingzi, and I’ll go seal off the door to carriage 18.”

Hearing about sealing the door, Yu Jing couldn’t help but twitch the corner of her mouth.

This kid has really learned a lot from his experiences.

”I’ll go with you.”

The silent Wan Xing suddenly spoke up.

Seeing Qi Xiaobai about to object, Wan Xing held up two fingers and pointed at her own eyes, saying, ”I can see them.”

Xiaoba realized and nodded decisively.

”Then, Sister Xingzi, you’ll report their positions for me, and Sister Jing will provide fire support.”

”Be careful; Su said the enemy also has Evolvers.”

...

Su Huan’s trust in Xiaoba’s combat capabilities even surpassed his trust in himself.

He had seen Xiaoba in his prime.

That was a Tier Three ”Master of Battlefield Works” who hadn’t joined any faction and fought his way out of the wilderness.

An open resister of the gospel, single-handedly taking down three Holy Artifact Recovery Teams, a Penitent Mecha Company, a main force of the Mechanical God Cult, and a Secret Trial Squad, the Silent Gear, reversing and killing multiple Tier Three Evolvers, escaping from two Tier Four Evolvers, and evading capture by a Tier Five Evolver, all while taking down a branch cathedral of the Mechanical God Cult in the Acid Rain Zone.

He was the only obstacle to the Mechanical God Cult’s move into the Acid Rain Zone.

It all started because the other party bumped into Master Eight while abducting orphans.

Thus began a three-year-long battle of attrition.

Eventually, the Mechanical God Cult, finding it unprofitable, had no choice but to abandon the Acid Rain Zone entirely and turned to trade scarce materials with factions like the Steel Council instead.

This war was humorously dubbed the ”Orphan Grudge” incident by the wild folk, with a three-year warranty: ”Covered for hits, but not for damage.”

It also made the title of Master Eight, the director of the orphanage, well-known across the wilderness.

Of course, it also involved factors of capability inhibition.

Therefore, on an armored train like this, entirely clad in metal, Master Eight was nearly invincible; any guns or cannons were just useless scrap metal under his unreasonable control over metal.

The opponents’ only way to break the stalemate was to use even higher-level powers to overwhelm.

But even four years later, Steel Council’s top-tier strength was still at He Jie’s Tier Three Evolver level. They wouldn’t even be considered a major faction if they hadn’t picked up Lin Jin.

At this rate, there were at most Tier One, and most soldiers were likely below Tier One.

Not enough to be considered an overwhelming force.

This was why Su Huan felt comfortable leading the team out.

As for Captain He...

’If he didn’t fall to his death, he should be catching up by now?’

Su Huan entered the building before him.

Armories aren’t just placed out in the open with signs declaring them as military zones.

Instead, they’re hidden within buildings, with the building connecting to a slope behind it.

Casually bypassing the buildings acting as a façade, he led the group to the underground armory.

Although the power outside was cut, the electronic locks still worked.

Su Huan placed his palm on it, warning messages appeared on the screen. Without using energy conversion, he directly channeled the high-voltage energy from his heart into it, frying the internal components instantly.

The plan was still on track so far.

His ability to destroy electronic devices had always been exceptional.

”Let’s move,” Su Huan clapped his hands.

Liang Kuan, Boss, Lao Er, and the protector dropped various demolition tools and began violently tearing things down.

Yu Yue and Lao San stayed on guard.

Leaving Lin Xia, the doctor, standing helplessly with the medical kit she received just today.

Though Su Huan had already destroyed the devices inside, when the tools made contact, the armory still emitted a piercing alarm sound. Without Su Huan needing to say a word, the shrill alarm was promptly silenced by Yu Yue.

It was like the sound of a choking duck was abruptly cut off.

It must be said, Yu Yue’s ability, though weak in combat early on, was highly functional.

With her, one could orchestrate loud conspiracies and forceful infiltrations.

No one would notice even if a cannon were pointed at someone’s head.

After ten minutes of work, Su Huan had heard several shots fired outside.

He hadn’t given Lu Xiao and the others much ammunition.

Being smart, they naturally wouldn’t waste it on regular zombies; it must have been more troublesome Tier One Zombies.

Seeing the slow progress, Su Huan squinted and moved to the side.

Lao San followed behind with a submachine gun.

The side of the depot wasn’t completely blocked; there were some passageways left open.

After a few rounds, Su Huan stopped in front of a wall.

From his memory, there should be a passage here, either from the original design or something the Steel Council later opened up.

Nonetheless, this area would be relatively thinner than the main entrance.

”Go call those people over.”

Su Huan stood his ground, red light emanating from his hands.

When Liang Kuan and the others hustled over with equipment, they heard a loud crash.

As the dust cleared, they saw Su Huan standing there, and a one-meter-high hole in the concrete wall exposed the rebar inside.

”Here, cut this for me!”

The four of them got busy again. Occasionally, Su Huan would step in to blast away large chunks of cement.

The armory was well-built; except for the blasted areas, barely any dust fell from elsewhere. There was no concern about causing an explosion with the fire spears.

Another twenty minutes passed before they finally broke through to make an entrance.

Su Huan walked into the armory, where all the emergency lights lit up silently, as if welcoming its master.

Ammunition boxes stacked on the shelves appeared in the light and shadows.

Presented before them was a standardized modern armory with four rows of heavy-duty alloy shelves, each embedded with shock-absorbing, rail-mounted ammunition boxes.

Bullets were stacked in green metal-sealed boxes, each with electronic labels on the sides.

Unfortunately, Su Huan couldn’t decipher the meaning of those parameters.

”Shelf load limit is five tons, interlayer spacing is 1.2 meters, in accordance with GJB 8348-2015 standard.”

Yu Yue’s voice sounded from behind.

Su Huan was amazed.

His face showed a ’You know this too?’ expression.

Yu Yue pointed to the military warehouse design specifications on the nearby wall.

Sure enough, some words were written on it.

However, Su Huan found it difficult to take his eyes off the weapons and ammunition.

This fully-stocked armory possessed an irresistible allure for any man.

Just like a jar of oil to a mouse.
