Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 83: Chapter 81: The Train Crossing the Battlefield

”A small group of zombies is converging ahead, about five hundred in number, including three Butchers, six Goblins, and one Night Demon.”

The captain of the five-man squad reported in a low voice.

The other three squads also turned their eyes towards him.

He Jie looked deeply, recalling the instructions given by the directors before departure.

The changes in the apocalypse exceeded expectations, and all plans were initiated ahead of time.

His mission is to unlock this armory, and this task is also related to whether he can firmly hold the position of captain of the twenty-man tactical squad.

There’s only one chance; if this unit is lost here, both he and the directors backing him will be ousted from the early stages of the apocalypse.

Being ousted early in the apocalypse would lead to only one outcome.

He Jie tightened his grip on his gun handle and said in a deep voice, ”Concentrate all heavy firepower on me, eliminate them as quickly as possible, and then move toward the target location!”

”Yes!”

After the order was given, the tactical squad split into four basic squads under He Jie’s command.

One squad was responsible for surveillance and battlefield support, two squads for encirclement, and one squad for assault.

Specific commands were executed by their respective five-man squad leaders.

Due to the generalized energy effect, all old communication equipment was rendered obsolete, and new ones are still under development, thus large-scale operations reverted to the most primitive command methods.

A Butcher holding a utility pole was opening metal boxes in the middle of the road.

Every time it passed a car, it would strike it hard.

The flattened row of cars along the road proved it wasn’t its first time doing this.

Whether empty or with zombies inside, they were all crushed.

Moving its steps, it aimed at a brand new red sedan beside it, then lifted its utility pole, showing a grotesque grin on its fat and ugly face.

Suddenly, it seemed to smell a scent more exciting but faintly masked by the acid rain.

Turning its head in confusion, it saw something small darting towards it.

”Boom—”

The explosion sounded mixed with the Butcher’s agonizing scream.

Tens of thousands of raindrops flew backward like a dragon sucking water, defying gravity.

The glass of nearby buildings collapsed under the sound.

The battle erupted abruptly.

Yellow fat mixed with gray skin fragments dyed everything around a hellish appearance, as armor-piercing rounds from two snipers followed, smashing the Butcher’s damaged head into pieces like a watermelon.

The massive body fell, and the horde began charging toward this pitifully small group of humans.

Intent on tearing their flesh apart.

But the soldiers showed no fear, as the Firepower Hand suppressed the sizeable zombie horde with a light machine gun.

The demolitions expert set off cars to create trenches, slowing the zombies’ advance.

”Boom boom boom...”

”Snipers, take out the Night Demon on the left first!”

”Assaulters, suppress the Butcher in front.”

”...”

Orderly commands were issued from each squad leader’s mouth.

The zombies’ strong bodies and bloodlust had nothing to brag about in the face of organized armed forces.

”There aren’t many grenades left; should we save them?”

”No! Use them all; the zombies around will soon gather here.”

He Jie, holding an assault rifle, stood at the front, with bullets seemingly having eyes, piercing through the rain curtain, and accurately striking the zombies’ skulls every time.

The firearm’s recoil seemed nonexistent to him.

However, due to their overwhelming numbers, the zombies gradually approached.

Yet He Jie, as if ignoring them, charged forward with his gun. As he passed by a zombie, his combat boot stomped down, and the hard skull shattered like a tomato.

Under the cover of acid rain, metal and gunpowder once again dominated this land.

During the battle intermission, He Jie suddenly noticed the assaulter from the surveillance squad running over, sensing something ominous.

But seeing the zombies almost wiped out calmed him down.

The efficiency of killing was not affected at all.

”There’s a train passing outside!”

He Jie was momentarily stunned, turning to look at him, ”What?”

”A train! A train with over forty carriages is passing through here!”

The assaulter repeated.

The ground slightly vibrated, and the familiar sound and rhythm caused the battlefield noise to pause, falling into a brief standstill.

He Jie quickly ran a few steps, stepped on a scrapped car by the roadside, leaped over three meters, grabbed the wall edge with one hand, and climbed up like a gecko. In just a few moments, he reached the top of a small building, gazing into the distance.

A heavily armored train, with a ferocious-looking locomotive, roared forward from afar.

With an arrogant momentum, it tore through the obstructing zombies, barreling towards this place.

More zombies were drawn out from the buildings on both sides, chasing after the train.

However, most lost direction due to their slow speed and the complex pursuit, but overall they converged in this direction.

And the direction of the train’s advance was precisely the target of his mission!

Who could it be?

Director Wang or Director Li?

He Jie stared grimly at the armored train, thoughts racing, reaching a conclusion.

No matter who is behind this train, they cannot be allowed to lead the zombies to the armory!

The consequences of a mission failure are unbearable!

The battle below continued, but the Tier One Zombies were all eliminated, leaving no threat behind.

He Jie turned and jumped down directly, the airflow lifted his raincoat.

”Bang!”

A small car was directly crushed beneath his landing,

”Everyone get in the vehicles; the target is to intercept that train! Snipers find your opportunity to attack, demolitions expert ready, look for a chance to blow it over for me!”

Thirty seconds later, four modified SUVs smashed through the debris, roaring in pursuit of the train.

...

Armored Train, Carriage No.17.

The sound of battle, although partially muffled by acid rain, still clearly penetrated into the carriage.

Lu Xiao looked at the location where the battle was occurring, a contemplative expression on his face.

’Why is this equipment so miscellaneous, with strong firepower but mismatched numbers... which unit has this setup?’

A young man, who just advanced as a Defender last night, approached excitedly, ”Boss, is the regular army recovering the city?”

Lu Xiao slowly shook his head, ”Something’s not right, something might happen later, stay cautious.”

The young man confidently said, ”We’re all Evolvers now; even if they all die, we won’t.”

Lu Xiao scoffed, ”An Evolver isn’t much, can you withstand 5.56 or 7.62? Just because your strength and speed are up, you think you’re Superman!”

The young man scratched his head.

”Listen to my command later...” As Lu Xiao was speaking, his pupils suddenly contracted, looking towards the rugged modified SUVs a few hundred meters away.

Even as the SUVs bounced like trampolines, the figure hugging the sniper rifle remained rock steady!

”Shit! Take cover!”
