Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 75: Chapter 74: New Additions

Su Huan tilted his head, looking behind Lu Xiao.

Wan Xing and the doctor Linxia came over carrying a large bag filled with bloody things, the warm blood spilling all over the ground.

”These general energies might dissipate before we can extract them.” Wan Xing said regretfully.

’Extract?’

Lu Xiao remembered the classification of evolvers that Su Huan had told him about before, and had a rough idea of Wan Xing’s role on the train.

Su Huan pinched his chin, staring at the steaming heart in the bag, ”These are all good stuff...”

Lu Xiao’s eyes flickered beside him.

’Could this heart be the key to evolution?’

Before he could figure out the connection between the two, Su Huan turned his gaze to him, ”You can’t use it now, but you could try giving it to your team members. Eating this has about a forty percent chance of evolution.”

As soon as the words fell, everyone in the area, including the workers handling supplies, simultaneously stopped what they were doing and stared intently at the heart in Wan Xing’s hands.

Everyone on the train knew about the existence of evolvers, like the conductor Su Huan, the late Gao Zhe, and now Lu Xiao.

Whether it’s Su Huan’s eerie means of pointing a finger and deciding someone’s fate, or the powerful strength and speed of Lu Xiao and the others,

they were everything the ordinary passengers dreamed of becoming.

Now, this opportunity was blatantly within reach.

All the passengers’ hearts began to race.

Even Linxia was shocked, not expecting to be holding such a crucial tool for evolution.

A stray thought crossed their mind about sneaking a taste just now...

’You’d die.’

Wan Xing merely glanced at them without saying anything, but the message was clear in their eyes.

Linxia swallowed, reining in their thoughts.

Then they heard Lu Xiao ask, ”What if it fails?”

”Of course, you turn into a zombie. That’s why this is the most insane way to evolve, but the safe way isn’t available to you right now.” Su Huan shrugged, speaking as if it were only natural.

”Does anyone want to try?”

”I do!”

A clear voice came from behind, and Su Huan raised an eyebrow and glanced around. It was a woman from the crew recruited today, someone who studied materials science.

One had to admit, she was indeed ambitious.

But there were only a few talented people on the whole train, so they couldn’t just foolishly gamble on a forty percent chance.

He would rather use these hearts for compost.

Shaking his head, ”Crew members don’t fall into this category; it’s a benefit for the worker and combat teams.”

”As for the combat team, do I count?”

Another female voice chimed in.

This time, without even looking, Su Huan recognized the voice.

It was Jiang Rong, the captain of the second D-level combat team on the armed train, and the owner of compartment 18.

Wherever she went, the woman always carried an old backpack and was now calmly looking at him.

If she hadn’t spoken up, Su Huan might not have noticed her.

Perhaps it was the train’s refining effect; these women who stood out were each more formidable than the last.

Determination was a kind of non-obvious ability.

Su Huan pondered for a moment and advised, ”If you complete one more mission, I’ll give you a safer evolution method with over a ninety percent success rate.”

”I appreciate the conductor’s kindness, but I’d like to give it a try.”

The woman spoke politely, but there was a distinct stubbornness in her tone.

Su Huan lightly shook his head, offering a peculiar blessing, ”Alright then, give it a try. May you be reborn at the start of the apocalypse.”

He wasn’t even sure where this phrase came from; it was just something everyone said.

This phrase came from the wilderness, where each evolution was like gambling with Death, so people had all sorts of blessings.

This one was the most widespread.

Although he didn’t know why anyone would want to be reborn at the start of the apocalypse.

Couldn’t every person who died be like him?

The woman gave a polite smile before taking from Wan Xing’s hands a Tier One Fearsome Wolf’s heart the size of a small tub, asking about the method of use, and then went to one side to quietly gnaw on it.

Although the Fearsome Wolf hadn’t reached Tier One, the general energy contained within its heart might surpass that of a Tier One Blood Hound from before.

After all, there were also disparities among evolution beasts.

Evolution only narrowed the gap between them, rather than completely leveling the playing field.

No matter what, an evolved Tier One Blood Hound stood no chance against a blue whale in the sea.

Similarly, a Tier One Fearsome Wolf could easily slaughter a Tier One Blood Hound.

Once one person led, others quickly followed suit. There were fourteen hearts in total, and they were all claimed by the workers and Lu Xiao’s team before any could be offered to the ordinary passengers.

Lao San and a few others anxiously watched on the side.

Su Huan didn’t bother with them, figuring they were nothing but a few newly mutated ordinary zombies. Any evolver present could easily take care of them.

At this moment, several cars had been dismantled into pieces by Xiaoba, with various metals melted down into standard steel plates.

Other materials were strewn all over the ground.

The drone-kid was rummaging through these materials.

’Could he be after the batteries...’

Su Huan squinted his eyes. At noon, Yu Jing had directed these kids to stuff a bunch of worn-out batteries into his room.

Quietly approaching from behind, he observed for a moment before curiously asking, ”Are you looking for cameras?”

The young man froze momentarily. Hearing it was Su Huan’s voice, he quickly replied, ”Yes, there are some cameras on the train, but they were taken from other equipment and are not suitable for modification. The cameras on these cars are ideal: small, discreet, and more functional.”

Su Huan satisfiedly patted his shoulder.

This kind of initiative was commendable.

After half an hour of busy work, the materials from this convoy had basically been looted by the armed train, and Lao San’s side had rung out seven gunshots.

Lu Xiao had also had to act twice.

In the end, out of fourteen people, five survived.

Jiang Rong became a Power Supplier, and among the remaining four men, two became Defenders, and two became Makers.

Regarding this outcome, Su Huan considered it fairly typical.

According to regulations compiled by the Steel Council, under natural conditions without artificial interference, ordinary people had the greatest chance of evolving into Defenders and Makers.

Next came Gatherers and Power Suppliers, with Manipulators being the least likely.

Of course, this was only evolution probability and was unrelated to field strengths.

After they became evolvers, two Makers and one Defender expressed interest in joining the crew, which Su Huan approved immediately.

These people had both life and ability on their side, so he wouldn’t hold them back.

The remaining Defender remained in Lu Xiao’s team; he was an aggressive-looking young man.

At this moment, he was glaring viciously at the defecting Defender.

By the time everything was wrapped up, it was already 10 PM, and Su Huan, who hadn’t eaten anything, was starving.

During that brief noon period, he was too busy eating Yu Yue to have time for the bread.

Passing through compartment 7, he saw Huang Sea and Xiaowang fiddling with ”Sweet Spicy Onion,” the mutated plant Lu Xiao had brought back.

He went up, cut off a white fruit, and walked straight to the dining car.

When he reached compartment 4, Su Huan retraced his steps and fell into thought at the sight before him.

A washing machine was churning away in earnest.

Inside, he saw Yu Yue’s ginger-yellow shirt, Yu Jing’s high-waisted jeans, and a cropped short sleeve.

Next to the washing machine was a portable power source.

He had just charged it in the afternoon.
