Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 82: Chapter 80: Elite Forces

”Why is this rain so filthy?”

Liang Kuan frowned and turned on the windshield wiper.

The large mass of muddy rainwater was pushed aside and carried away by the wind.

”This is acid rain. When you have a chance, check the driver’s cabin for any leaks, patch them up temporarily, and we’ll do a full overhaul in a couple of days.”

Su Huan instructed.

”Understood, I’ve been hearing some strange noises from the wheels these past days. It’s either something stuck or some damage,” Liang Kuan said.

After all, they have trudged through a tide of corpses; the train is heavy, and the pressure it puts on the hubs, rims, and other parts is considerable. But now, every second counts, and there is no way to stop for repairs.

We’ll have to wait for a break after getting this batch of equipment from the armory to do a complete overhaul and modification of the vehicle.

”Just leave it for now, unless you feel it’s getting serious, then let me know.” Su Huan patted his broad shoulder, ”By the way, what would you like for breakfast? I’ll ask Xiaoba to bring it over.”

”Whatever, as long as it fills me up.”

Su Huan left the cockpit and walked into the dining car.

He saw Lao San standing there from a distance, with an unlit cigarette in his mouth, looking out at the acid rain with a sullen expression. Seeing Su Huan approaching, he quickly stood up straight with his gun.

”Captain!”

Su Huan reached into his pocket and tossed the cigarettes given by yesterday’s mechanic to him, ”If you want to smoke, go to the carriage at the back, but I wouldn’t recommend opening the window; acid rain is toxic.”

He didn’t have a smoking habit, mainly because it was too expensive. In the wilderness, the price of a neatly packed cigarette matched that of a 9mm universal bullet.

Even in a company like Iron Conference, cigarettes are considered luxury goods.

Another reason was that cigarette smoke was too strong, and Su Huan didn’t want to carry any strong smells on him.

All this would increase the risk of death.

Lao San quickly removed the cigarette from his mouth and pocketed them all.

Sitting beside Su Huan, Yu Yue served two large plates of grilled wolf meat so solidly that the meat overflowed the edges of the plates, each piece weighing nearly two kilograms.

Su Huan looked up at Yu Yue and said, ”In the future, don’t wait specifically for me when it’s time to eat. Whoever comes first eats first, and after eating, take care of your own work.”

Yu Yue responded softly, showing no outward emotion.

Su Huan cut a large chunk of wolf meat and stuffed it into his mouth, chewing vigorously as he asked, ”How much ammo is left on the train?”

”There are six magazines left for the Iron Curtain assault rifles, seven for the Hummingbird submachine guns, and still 330 rounds of universal 9mm pistol bullets, all regular ammo,” Lao San replied.

Su Huan did a mental calculation, ”There’s still one unit of 7.62 left, right?”

Lao San nodded with some surprise, ”Yes, there’s still 240 rounds, a standard unit of ammo for conventional combat.”

It’s not surprising he was taken aback; Su Huan’s knowledge was too fragmented.

His understanding of weapons came from between the apocalypse and the four years after.

In the wilderness, various modified guns were circulating, along with military equipment pried from armories and military districts. The Law Enforcer’s number of firearms was originally low, and the models were old, so they wouldn’t be used by major forces to arm their subordinates.

So he had never seen these conventional weapons from the Law Enforcer.

Not everyone pays attention to what guns are used by the Law Enforcer, what models they have, or what caliber ammo they use.

He learned everything from the piecemeal content modded from after the apocalypse.

But he still understood the military term ”one unit of ammo”.

Originally, according to different ammo weights and combat needs, the concept of ”unit” was not a fixed value, but these complex things could not be inherited in the wilderness, so 240 became the fixed quantity for ”one unit of ammo”.

”How much armor-piercing ammo is left for the sniper rifles?”

Su Huan asked.

Lao San looked up towards Yu Yue behind the cabinet.

Yu Yue responded, ”Still forty rounds left.”

She maintained that low-profile demeanor, but it seemed to have grown with a sense of detachment.

This is a form of self-protection resulting from being severely bullied.

Su Huan pinched his fingers and glanced at her with interest.

As if seeing a small bread he had peeled himself growing a new layer of skin.

What’s the use?

Perhaps it would let him experience the pleasure of peeling again.

In the middle of the meal, the water purifier in Car No. 3 had already started roaring.

The sound of rushing water echoed through the pipes, filling the water tanks according to the carriage number.

”Lao San, how’s the evolution going?”

”Well, I tried it as soon as I got back last night, used half the Pan-energy Crystal, but there’s no reaction.”

Su Huan shook his head, ”Once you start absorbing the Pan-energy Crystal, try to use it all up as much as possible. Since you’ve already damaged its structure, the pan-energy inside will rapidly dissipate in a short time.”

Lao San slapped his thigh in surprise, ”That’s the reason. I was wondering why it felt like it had gotten much smaller. I’ll let it absorb it now.”

Su Huan felt a bit helpless.

But there are many such fragmentary little things in the early stages, and some he can’t immediately think of; he can only slowly teach them.

Once they’re trained up, things will be better.

After finishing the meal, Su Huan checked each of the work carriages again, to prevent Yu Jing from running into his room late at night. Car No. 10 was assigned to her as a workshop.

For mechanical maintenance and modification work.

Of course, this arrangement wasn’t made without a selfish motive.

The noise made by her tools is too loud.

The crane forklift had already been thrown into the carriage at the back; now the whole No. 3 observation car was occupied by the water purifier and Wan Xing.

...

When the acid rain started falling, He Jie put on his raincoat.

Even though his Level 3 base defense and physique didn’t fear these corrosive liquids, his equipment worth 200,000 certainly couldn’t withstand it.

And now it’s the apocalypse, you can’t even scrape together two million for similar gear.

Sometimes he really thought this world was quite surreal.

He was supposed to retire and apply for a security guard position, but the company offered a large amount of money and relocation expenses, sending him for military training.

To let his family have a better life, he inexplicably returned to his old profession.

With solid military skills, he stayed till the end among over three thousand people, becoming one of the three hundred.

Then the damn apocalypse arrived.

Thinking about this made him angry.

He barely escaped that godforsaken place and didn’t even enjoy two peaceful days when the damn apocalypse hit!

”Bah, damn acid rain!”

He Jie spat out the raindrops that splashed into his mouth and raised his left hand to look at the tactical watch on his wrist.

This was a personal habit he developed.

Just as he lowered his hand, a five-man team had already returned from the front.

Every soldier in the team wore a full set of individual protection systems, including body armor, tactical helmets, panoramic night vision goggles, and held in their hands the latest model Graywolf-5 modular assault rifles. The rifles integrated a holographic sight at the top and could be equipped with a mini-grenade launcher.

The way they walked, their epaulets, and other details showed that they were an elite force.

An elite group with complete logistics support and solid training.
