Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 74: Chapter 73: Spoils of War

A sudden howl echoed from afar.

Su Huan instinctively turned to look at Yu Yue, only to see the woman holding a sniper rifle, her eyelids drooping, eyes narrowing into slits, with emotions in her eyes identical to Yu Jing’s.

The resemblance between the mother and daughter, already seventy percent similar, at this moment was so profound that he could not tell them apart.

Feeling Su Huan’s gaze, Yu Yue put down the gun, the slightly lifted corners of her eyes relaxed, returning to her obedient demeanor.

She pointed to the left front at a wolf corpse lying on the ground, her voice directly reaching his ear, ”That one isn’t dead.”

Su Huan nodded slightly, calmly said, ”Not bad.”

He turned and gave Liang Kuan a glance.

The latter understood immediately, carrying a metal shield as he walked towards the left front.

The supposedly dead common terror wolf lying in a pool of blood burst up violently.

”Roar—”

But faster than it was the shield in Liang Kuan’s hand. The man, standing at 1.9 meters, let out an angry snort, flipped his wrist, and the 1.3-meter sword-shaped shield struck down from midair.

”Bang!”

The heavy dull sound was accompanied by the teeth-grinding sound of snapping tendons and bones.

The terror wolf fell silently back to the ground, blood spurting in a radial pattern across the ground, leaving a red mark on Liang Kuan’s tactical boots.

Extreme violence, an ultimate visual experience.

This is the defender’s way of fighting.

The three brothers stared in astonishment at the 10mm thick metal shield in Liang Kuan’s hand, swallowed, and silently fired again.

In total, there were more than twenty terror wolves, twelve initially killed, and Su Huan left two more before leaving.

Most were shot to death, and two were impaled by Xiaoba’s metal spikes.

In total, fourteen terror wolves, three at Tier One, each one weighing at least several hundred pounds of meat.

Several members of the crew also came down, led by Wan Xing to clear the battlefield.

Su Huan then led Liang Kuan and several others along with workers towards the distant national highway.

The crisis felt from the darkness instinctively made everyone’s hair stand on end.

Su Huan looked at the overturned vehicles in front of him and waved his hand, ”First, get the cars upright, see if there are any intact ones, and start collecting supplies.”

”Got it.”

Wang He quickly led his workers forward to push the cars.

Su Huan turned to look at Xiaoba, ”The cars are missing some metal; you could melt these abandoned vehicles, enough to get a good amount.”

Xiaoba nodded and began to operate his abilities, extracting metal from the severely damaged vehicles.

The efficiency was much faster than workers working together.

”There are two more survivors here—”

Before long, three people were brought before Su Huan, two men and a woman, all looking rather young, the oldest man not even thirty.

The three were trapped beneath their overturned car, not drawn out by the wolf pack immediately, lucky to escape with their lives.

Each looked flushed, with cyanotic hands and feet, the most severe with sunken eyes.

Clearly suffering from some dehydration.

Su Huan nudged the slightly older man with his foot and asked in a deep voice, ”Where are you from?”

The man’s cracked lips moved, ”...Mojiang City, can you spare some water?”

Su Huan automatically ignored the latter half of the sentence.

”From the Mojiang Mutual Aid Convoy?”

A hint of surprise flashed in the man’s eyes.

”Yeah, are you also a convoy escapee?”

”Escapee? What’s going on?”

”You don’t know?”

Seeing Su Huan’s expression change for the worse, the man decisively replied, ”It’s a corpse tide! Not long ago, for some unknown reason, a terrifying tide of the dead suddenly exploded in the city center and began moving outward, forcing the convoy to accelerate its escape.”

Lao San and the others seemed to think of something, their expressions strange.

”We ran into a terrifying zombie on the way, not only incredibly fast but with varied attacks, one hand with a bone knife, the other a bone whip, covered head to toe in an impenetrable bone armor, even a truck couldn’t kill it, we all could only scatter and flee.”

The man still bore a lingering look of fear.

Liang Kuan and the others seemed thoughtful.

Without doubt, the corpse tide was stirred up by the armed train.

As for the monster the man described, it was likely a mutant Tier Two [Slaughterer] like Gao Zhe.

Corpse Pupa is the first stage of a zombie, while Corpse Armor is the clear indication of a zombie evolving to Tier Two.

After understanding this information and confirming they had no special skills, Su Huan lost interest in the group, tossing them each a bottle of refilled purified water before throwing them into the back carriage.

The workers began loading the convoy’s supplies, each item passing under his watchful eye.

This group hadn’t come empty-handed; although they were out of water, their remaining food and medicine were quite sufficient, with even some small electronic devices like fans.

The dead likely included professionals in outdoor activities.

There were various tactical gears, military compressed biscuits stacked in several boxes.

Su Huan kicked open a dark green plastic box, looking down to find rows of circular cans inside.

Deer meat, each 400g, heavy, with a total of twelve cans.

In addition, there were numerous vegetable cans, like the common tomatoes and chickpeas, and the less common mushrooms, corn, and bamboo shoots.

Most absurdly, they even brought four live chickens, one rooster, and three hens.

Though lacking water and appearing somewhat sickly, upon seeing Su Huan, the rooster forcibly perked up, spreading its wings to shield the hens behind it.

Su Huan flicked its bright red comb, grinning, ”You got yourself a harem now.”

After inspecting the chickens and confirming no mutations, he called Huang Sea over.

”Take these chickens, don’t let them die; soon, my breakfast eggs will depend on them.”

Huang Sea adjusted his glasses and quickly said, ”No problem, I’ll set up a small farm in the carriage, guaranteeing you’ll have white-cut chicken in three months.”

Su Huan shook his head, extending a finger.

”One month?” Huang Sea was taken aback, then looked troubled, ”But even young chickens take about two months.”

”No, I mean continuous supply.”

Su Huan said calmly.

”Huh?”

He didn’t bother explaining further, waving his hand as he watched Huang Sea and Xiaowang worriedly carrying the chickens to the car.

Though the chickens hadn’t mutated yet, under panacea’s stimulation, various organisms grow at an accelerated pace, drastically shortening juvenile periods, facing future disasters with greater strength.

Most vehicles were severely damaged, only one was relatively intact near the train, plus two repairable ones, all loaded into the rear carriage.

All sorts of living supplies were loaded into the carriage by workers, with translations and chefs sorting them on the train.

Though unspoken, certain rules formed quietly.

For instance, back carriage people weren’t allowed into the front carriage.

The crew automatically took on the task of sorting front carriage supplies in such conditions.

Everything was in full swing, everyone being quite enthusiastic.

At the rear carriage door opened, Lu Xiao and some passengers came over.

Their timing was perfect, as the spoils were mostly collected, leaving only some tough labor.

”Need a hand?”
