100 Chapter 100: The First Morning 2026-10-14

The words burned beneath Kai’s skin.

Not with heat.

Not with pain.

With possibility.

The next Chapter is unwritten.

The sentence flowed beneath the surface of his hand like living ink.

Tiny rivers of black moved through his skin.

Twisting.

Shifting.

Rearranging themselves every few seconds.

Yet no matter how much they changed, they always returned to the same message.

The next Chapter is unwritten.

Kai couldn’t stop staring.

For so long, every path had already existed.

Every choice had been trapped inside a larger design.

Every answer had belonged to someone else.

Now...

For the first time...

Nothing was waiting ahead.

The future wasn’t written.

The original Kai watched him quietly.

Then he smiled.

A genuine smile.

The kind Kai had never seen on his face before.

”It accepted you.”

Kai looked up.

”I didn’t do anything.”

The original shook his head.

”You did.”

”What?”

”You refused.”

Silence settled between them.

Kai frowned.

”I don’t understand.”

The original glanced toward the black ink moving beneath Kai’s skin.

”You refused the story.”

The room became quiet.

Not empty.

Reflective.

”You questioned it.”

The original took a slow step forward.

”You doubted it.”

Another step.

”You chose Luna instead of certainty.”

His voice softened.

”You chose Elias instead of revenge.”

Kai felt his chest tighten.

The memories returned immediately.

Luna standing beside him when every answer seemed impossible.

Elias smiling despite carrying centuries of pain.

Daniel refusing to abandon him.

Mrs. Ashcroft risking everything to protect people she barely understood.

The original smiled.

”You chose people instead of the plot.”

The words struck harder than any revelation.

Because they were true.

Every time he’d followed the story...

Things had gotten worse.

Every time he’d followed people...

Something changed.

The story bent.

The rules broke.

Reality itself seemed to hesitate.

The original Kai looked upward.

Toward the endless sky of pages.

”That’s why you’re here.”

Kai followed his gaze.

Millions of pages floated above them.

Countless Chapters.

Countless versions.

Countless endings.

Most of them forgotten.

Many unfinished.

Some torn apart entirely.

An entire universe constructed from stories.

And yet...

For the first time...

Kai noticed something strange.

The pages were no longer moving.

They weren’t turning.

They weren’t writing themselves.

They were waiting.

As if the entire story had paused.

The original suddenly stepped backward.

His body flickered.

Just once.

Like a weak signal.

Kai immediately noticed.

”...You’re fading.”

The original smiled.

”I know.”

Kai shook his head.

”No.”

Another flicker.

Smaller this time.

”Not again.”

He stepped forward.

Instinctively.

Desperately.

The original laughed softly.

”You really do have a habit of trying to save everyone.”

”I haven’t saved anyone.”

”You’ve saved more people than you realize.”

Kai opened his mouth.

Then stopped.

The original looked at him warmly.

”You already saved me.”

Kai frowned.

”What are you talking about?”

The original looked toward the sky.

For a moment, his expression became distant.

Thoughtful.

Almost peaceful.

”For the first time...”

His voice grew quiet.

”...someone will remember I existed.”

Silence filled the room.

Kai wanted to argue.

Wanted to tell him there had to be another way.

Wanted to say they could fix this.

That they could save him.

But deep down...

He already knew.

This wasn’t death.

It wasn’t disappearance.

It wasn’t punishment.

It was completion.

The original Kai had carried this burden for longer than anyone should have.

Longer than anyone could imagine.

Now his story was finally ending.

And someone else would continue forward.

The room suddenly shook.

Violently.

The walls cracked.

The floor split apart.

The windows exploded inward.

Kai threw up his arms.

But no glass came.

Only paper.

Thousands.

Millions.

Endless white pages burst through the room like a storm.

Blank.

Every single one blank.

The First Witness looked upward.

His face drained of color.

”...No.”

Kai followed his gaze.

His stomach dropped.

The pages in the sky were disappearing.

Not burning.

Not tearing.

Erasing.

Entire Chapters vanished.

Entire stories ceased to exist.

One after another.

Like someone was removing them from reality.

The Original Kai stared upward.

Fear flashed across his face.

Real fear.

The kind Kai had never seen before.

”He’s changing the ending.”

The words barely left his mouth before a sound echoed across reality.

Deep.

Ancient.

Powerful.

Not thunder.

Not an explosion.

The sound of a book closing.

One enormous book.

The sound echoed forever.

Every page froze.

Every piece of paper stopped moving.

The storm vanished.

Silence swallowed everything.

Then—

A voice spoke.

Not ancient.

Not monstrous.

Not cruel.

Curious.

”...Interesting.”

Kai froze.

Every muscle in his body locked.

The voice continued.

Calm.

Thoughtful.

”I don’t remember writing this.”

The Original Kai slowly lowered his head.

The First Witness took a step backward.

”...He’s awake.”

Kai swallowed.

”Who?”

Nobody answered.

Because they didn’t know.

The voice wasn’t coming from above.

Or below.

Or around them.

It came from everywhere.

Every page.

Every memory.

Every sentence reality had ever spoken.

Kai forced himself to speak.

”...Are you the Author?”

The voice interrupted him immediately.

”No.”

A quiet laugh followed.

Warm.

Amused.

”I’m reading.”

Kai blinked.

”What?”

”You confuse the Author...”

The voice chuckled again.

”...with the Writer.”

The Original Kai’s face went completely pale.

”...Impossible.”

”I thought so too.”

The voice sounded entertained.

”Until one of my characters began making choices.”

Kai’s blood ran cold.

Characters.

The voice meant them.

The voice meant him.

The First Witness grabbed Kai’s arm.

”...Don’t answer.”

Kai looked down.

The little boy’s hands were trembling.

”If he notices you...”

The voice laughed.

Softly.

”Oh.”

Silence.

”I noticed him long ago.”

Everything vanished.

The bedroom.

The pages.

The sky.

The Witness.

The Original Kai.

Gone.

Not destroyed.

Simply gone.

Kai blinked.

And found himself somewhere else.

A white room stretched endlessly in every direction.

No walls.

No ceiling.

No floor.

Only white.

Pure white.

Infinite white.

At the center stood a wooden desk.

Simple.

Ordinary.

Behind it sat an empty chair.

Kai stared.

The voice sighed.

”I’ve always disliked empty chairs.”

Footsteps echoed behind him.

Slow.

Measured.

Deliberate.

Kai turned.

Nobody was there.

Yet the footsteps continued.

Closer.

Then they stopped.

Beside the chair.

The chair slowly moved backward.

Wood scraped against the floor.

Someone sat down.

Kai’s heart pounded.

He could feel them.

Sense them.

But whenever he tried to look directly—

His eyes slipped away.

His mind refused to process what he saw.

Not invisible.

Impossible.

Like reality itself rejected the idea.

One hand rested on the desk.

Kai could see that much.

Long fingers stained with black ink.

A silver fountain pen lay between them.

Perfect.

Untouched.

Unbroken.

Exactly like the one that had shattered before.

The unseen figure tapped the desk once.

A blank page appeared.

Pure white.

Waiting.

Then the figure spoke.

”I have a question.”

Kai swallowed.

”...Okay.”

The unseen figure folded his hands.

Patient.

Curious.

Almost human.

”If I stop writing...”

The room became impossibly still.

”...what do you think happens to all of you?”

Silence.

Kai stared at the page.

At the pen.

At the hand.

He opened his mouth.

Then closed it.

He didn’t know.

For the first time in a very long time—

He genuinely didn’t know.

The unseen figure waited.

Not threatening.

Not demanding.

Simply curious.

Behind him, the Original Kai whispered quietly.

”...Choose carefully.”

The First Witness remained silent.

Kai looked down at the blank page.

Then at the silver pen.

Then at the unseen figure.

And suddenly—

He smiled.

The unseen figure tilted his head.

”...Why are you smiling?”

Kai looked directly at the blank page.

Then finally answered.

”Because...”

The room held its breath.

”...I don’t think you’re asking the right question.”

For the first time—

The unseen figure stopped moving.

Absolute silence filled the white room.

Then a laugh escaped him.

Soft.

Warm.

Genuinely delighted.

”...At last.”

The unseen hand slowly pushed the page across the desk.

Toward Kai.

”Then ask yours.”

The paper slid to a stop in front of him.

Words slowly appeared across its surface.

Written by no hand.

Created by no pen.

Seven simple words.

A question.

A lonely question.

A question that seemed far older than the story itself.

What if the story no longer needs me?
