Yandere Stream

The words hung suspended in the air.

The Author has started reading.

They glowed for only a heartbeat before every letter crumbled into drifting black ash, dissolving into nothing.

Kai stared at the empty space where the message had been.

”...Reading?”

Before anyone could answer, the fountain pen in the original Kai’s hand gave a sharp crack.

A thin fracture spread across its black lacquered barrel. Then another followed. And another.

The original Kai lowered his eyes to the pen and sighed.

”I was hoping we’d have longer.”

Kai stepped forward, frustration finally boiling over.

”What does that even mean? You keep talking about the Author, and now you’re talking about a Reader. Which is it?”

The original Kai met his gaze with a weary smile.

”Both.”

Kai frowned.

”That isn’t an answer.”

”No,” he admitted quietly. ”It isn’t.”

The room answered for him.

A violent tremor shook the bedroom, rattling every piece of furniture. A bookshelf toppled against the far wall with a deafening crash, spilling books across the wooden floor. Children’s drawings fluttered through the air like startled birds before one drifted down and landed at Kai’s feet.

He bent down and picked it up.

His breath caught.

The crayon drawing had changed.

The black door was gone.

Instead, the picture showed the bedroom exactly as it was now. The original Kai stood near the window. The First Witness remained beside the bed. Kai himself stood in the center of the room...

Except the version of Kai inside the drawing wasn’t looking at either of them.

He was staring out of the page.

Straight at whoever held the picture.

A cold shiver crawled down Kai’s spine.

The original Kai gently took the drawing from his hands.

”It started.”

Kai looked up.

”What started?”

Holding the picture between two fingers, the original Kai answered softly.

”The observation.”

Kai frowned, completely lost.

The original folded the drawing neatly in half before continuing.

”When a story is unread, it moves. When it’s remembered, it grows. But once it’s being read...”

He looked directly into Kai’s eyes.

”...it becomes fixed.”

Silence settled over the room.

Kai slowly pieced the thought together.

”So... if someone is reading our story...”

”They’re deciding what happens?” he asked.

The original Kai nodded.

”Not intentionally. But every expectation, every prediction, every assumption... they become gravity.”

Kai felt his stomach tighten.

His streams.

His viewers.

Millions of comments scrolling across the screen.

Luna is the villain.

Kai will sacrifice himself.

Elias is already dead.

Endless theories.

Speculation.

Belief.

”So every time people believed something...”

He swallowed.

”...the story leaned toward it.”

”Exactly.”

Kai whispered, almost to himself, ”That’s impossible.”

”It should be.”

The original Kai looked almost amused by the irony.

”But impossible things happen when enough people believe them.”

Before Kai could respond, the First Witness abruptly stood.

”They’re here.”

The temperature inside the room seemed to drop.

Everyone fell silent.

Footsteps echoed beyond the bedroom door.

Not one pair.

Many.

Slow.

Measured.

Like dozens of people calmly walking through an empty house.

Kai instinctively looked toward the door.

It remained closed.

Yet shadows began sliding beneath it.

One.

Then another.

Soon dozens of black silhouettes stretched across the wooden floor, writhing beneath the gap.

The original Kai’s expression hardened.

”Don’t open it.”

Kai frowned.

”I wasn’t planning to.”

”You will.”

The certainty in his voice made Kai uneasy.

”Because they’ll ask.”

As if summoned by those words, three polite knocks sounded against the door.

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

Then came a pleasant voice.

”Housekeeping.”

Kai’s skin prickled.

The original Kai turned toward him.

”What do you hear?”

”...Housekeeping.”

He nodded before glancing toward the little boy.

”And you?”

The First Witness lowered his eyes.

”I hear my mother.”

Silence lingered.

The original Kai gave a bitter smile.

”I hear Elias.”

None of them moved.

Another knock came.

This time...

”Kai?”

Luna’s voice.

His entire body stiffened.

”...No.”

”It’s me.”

”I got disconnected.”

”You forgot me again.”

Kai closed his eyes.

”It’s not her.”

The original Kai watched him carefully.

”How do you know?”

Kai stood still for several seconds before a faint smile crossed his face.

Because he remembered.

Mrs. Ashcroft’s words echoed inside his mind.

It remembers facts.

It doesn’t understand people.

He walked toward the bedroom door.

The original Kai didn’t stop him.

Resting one hand lightly against the wood, Kai spoke calmly.

”Luna.”

The answer came instantly.

”Yeah?”

His smile widened.

”If this were really you...”

”...what’s the first thing you’d call me?”

Silence.

Only a second.

Then—

”...Kai.”

Kai laughed quietly.

”You lose.”

He stepped away from the door.

”She never calls me Kai.”

A dozen memories flashed through his mind.

Idiot.

Dummy.

Sleep-deprived streamer.

Hopeless romantic.

She always found a different name.

Anything except ”Kai.”

The voice outside never answered.

Instead, every shadow beneath the door vanished at once.

The footsteps disappeared.

The suffocating pressure lifted from the room.

The original Kai looked genuinely impressed.

”...You’ve gotten better.”

Kai shrugged.

”I had a good teacher.”

”Elias?”

Kai smiled and slowly shook his head.

”Luna.”

For the first time since they’d met, the original Kai laughed.

Not a tired chuckle.

Not a bitter laugh.

A real one.

Warm.

Unrestrained.

”I always knew...”

He wiped at one eye.

”...she’d save you before anyone else.”

The room shook again.

Not because of the thing outside.

Because of the sky.

A massive crack spread across the ceiling.

Beyond it wasn’t heaven.

There were no clouds.

Only pages.

Infinite pages turning endlessly overhead.

Kai stared upward in awe.

”...Those are...”

”The Chapters,” the original Kai answered.

Every page carried words.

Scenes.

Lives.

Entire conversations.

As they turned, Kai caught glimpses of everything he’d already lived through.

Apartment 7C.

The rooftop.

Mrs. Ashcroft.

The Library.

The First Witness.

Every sacrifice.

Every loss.

Every choice.

Then he saw something impossible.

At the very end...

Hundreds of blank pages.

His eyes widened.

”The ending isn’t written.”

The original Kai looked up and smiled.

”No.”

”It never has been.”

Kai frowned.

”I thought the Author wrote it.”

”The Author wrote possibilities,” he corrected gently.

”But the ending...”

He looked directly into Kai’s eyes.

”...belongs to whoever picks up the pen.”

Kai lowered his gaze to the fountain pen still resting in the original Kai’s hand.

The fractures had spread almost to its silver nib.

The original held it out one last time.

”This time...”

His voice was barely above a whisper.

”...I’m not asking you to continue my story.”

Kai stared at the pen.

”What are you asking?”

The original Kai smiled.

”Write your own ending.”

The moment those words left his lips, the pen shattered.

Not into splinters.

Into ink.

A cloud of black liquid burst upward like smoke, hanging weightlessly in the air before drifting toward Kai.

It wasn’t attacking him.

It wasn’t consuming him.

It was choosing him.

One drop landed on the back of his hand and melted beneath his skin.

Then another.

And another.

Black letters slowly spread across his wrist—not written by the Author, nor by the Reader, but by the pen itself.

The next Chapter is unwritten.
