Warlock Apprentice

Chapter 3147: Chapter 3148: Experimental Conclusions

Once you possess Mysterious-level luck, even if the duration is limited, it can greatly increase the probability of passing through the challenges.

The only downside might be that those with the Seed of Hardship must experience a death ordeal within the Reincarnation Casket.

And the death ordeal within the Reincarnation Casket is likely connected to a high-difficulty small dimension.

This means that the holder of the Seed of Hardship must, in any case, go through a ”high-difficulty” world within the Reincarnation Casket.

Of course, this only happens once.

As long as they get through this high-difficulty world, the path ahead is basically a smooth one for a while.

This is far better than facing random difficulties in twenty worlds.

Angel, after understanding the effect of the Seed of Hardship, couldn’t help but wonder: ”Why must the death ordeal be experienced in the Reincarnation Casket?”

”Can’t we first go through the death ordeal outside, carry the effect of luck, and then enter the Reincarnation Casket?”

Antonio: ”This point, Dan also considered...”

After confirming the passing scheme, Dan invited Karl Marzan to the Ancient Asia World and began his experiment.

Karl Marzan was quite accommodating to the Orderly Guild’s wishes, and he was very cooperative with the experiments proposed by Dan. He even took the initiative to bring a lot of living test subjects—Seed followers.

Most Seed followers are mad and fanatic, so to make them obediently participate in the experiment, brainwashing is necessary.

They had to wipe their minds of the initiation words of the ”Seed” to prevent them from reverting to the Seed once they entered the Reincarnation Casket, which would render the experiment useless.

According to the experimental results, the Seed of Hardship indeed significantly increased the passing rate.

Out of twenty Seed followers, two people successfully completed the passage task.

It must be noted that these Seed followers are not Legendary Wizards, the strongest among them is just a Second-level Wizard, and not a True Knowledge Wizard. Furthermore, their bloodlines are not strong; if any one of them manages to pass, it’s a huge success.

What’s more, there were two.

They conducted another round of experiments, and one out of fifteen people passed.

Due to the shortage of more experimental subjects, the experiment was temporarily halted, and eventually, a total of three people passed.

Although the experiment did not continue, the final conclusion was quite interesting.

First of all, it’s about Angel’s puzzlement: why can’t the death ordeal be experienced outside first, and then enter the Reincarnation Casket?

The reason is simple: all three who passed experienced the death ordeal within the Reincarnation Casket. None who experienced the death ordeal outside and entered the Reincarnation Casket with the effect of luck succeeded in passing.

Dan offered two possible explanations for this situation: first, the luck conferred by the Seed of Hardship is also time-limited, and experiencing the death ordeal first and then entering the Reincarnation Casket may not provide enough time to pass through twenty worlds.

The second, and most likely point—there is a high probability of a Mysterious Spirit within the Reincarnation Casket. In other words, even if the Reincarnation Casket is out of order, it still carries a shallow consciousness. Similar to the World Will, following certain underlying logic, it can make certain arrangements within the Reincarnation Casket.

When you enter the Reincarnation Casket with mysterious-level luck, the spirit within the casket, being of the same mysterious level, is likely to detect your anomaly. If it determines that your anomaly is aimed at subverting the underlying rules of the Reincarnation Casket, it will definitely take action against you.

Even if it doesn’t act directly, it will target you in your subsequent cycles.

And the targeting by the Mysterious Spirit cannot be exempted even with mysterious-level luck.

According to the current results, this detection mechanism is most likely arranged at the moment an outsider enters the Reincarnation Casket. Once inside, the Mysterious Spirit assumes you’ve entered the ”cage,” and unless you reach its core area, it won’t bother you further.

In short, entering the Reincarnation Casket with the ”appearance of a death ordeal” can blindside the Mysterious Spirit’s detection mechanism. But entering with ”lucky times” is courting death.

Of course, this is Dan’s explanation, and whether it’s accurate remains uncertain.

However, given that all three people who passed experienced the death ordeal inside the Reincarnation Casket, following this rule in the future seems appropriate.

The first conclusion from this experiment is clear: the death ordeal must be experienced inside the Reincarnation Casket.

Besides this, another unexpected finding emerged: among the three who passed, two were apprentices, and one was a newly promoted Official Wizard.

Proportionally, the survival rate of apprentices is actually higher than that of Official Wizards!

This point puzzled everyone initially, but later Karl Marzan provided an answer.

Karl Marzan, as the holder of the ”Seed of Hardship,” had also conducted many comparative experiments to study the seed.

It is certain that although the Seed of Hardship does not generate corresponding ordeals based on the wizard’s level, generally, the ordeals faced by apprentices are simpler than those faced by wizards.

The death ordeals that apprentices must face differ in difficulty from those faced by Official Wizards.

Even though the Seed of Hardship doesn’t generate death ordeals based on level, the lower threshold of difficulty faced by apprentices is definitely higher than that faced by wizards. With more of these lower threshold difficulties, the probability of encountering a simple death ordeal is greater, which is the fundamental reason apprentices are more likely to survive the death ordeal.

Of course, this explanation is still too simplistic, as it should also consider the issue of relative difficulty.

In terms of relative difficulty, although apprentices and wizards have different thresholds, facing challenging trials is the same.

However... there is a very important external factor here that dictates the boundary between apprentices and wizards.

This external factor is the so-called ”tricks outside the chessboard.”

For example:

Apprentices, being at the bottom of the power chain for a long time, have many methods to enhance their power, many means available, and when facing the ”death ordeal,” they can become fully armed, wielding sharp swords and donning colorful armor, facing the final challenge as a strong and brave figure.

In contrast, for Official Wizards, making upward advancements is very difficult, and when facing the ”death ordeal,” they might not be fully armed, but rather facing the ordeal with ramshackle gear, or even challenging it bare-bodied.

When a death ordeal arrives, these two different stances clearly show that the former is more likely to survive the ordeal and enjoy the luck.

Thus, the second conclusion from the experiment is derived: after using the Seed of Hardship, the likelihood of an apprentice passing through is higher than that of an Official Wizard.

This also explains why the people summoned for long-distance tasks are all apprentices and not Official Wizards.

Official Wizards are difficult to cultivate, and their death rate is high; whereas apprentices... as seen from the Purification Garden incident, the attitude of wizards towards apprentices is that they aren’t expendable, but can be considered so when necessary.

Besides the above two conclusions, there is another established conclusion: all passers will receive a reward, which is a coordinate, randomly selected. However, each coordinate certainly contains a Special Undead.

This conclusion, Angel is aware of. The reason he encountered Frost back then was because Frost obtained the coordinates after passing through the Reincarnation Casket and followed them to find Mandhela. At that time, Angel had just reclaimed Mandhela...

After Antonio finished explaining all the experimental conclusions, he looked towards Angel and said, ”That’s the situation. With experimental results to support, it can be confirmed that once the Seed of Hardship is used, the probability of apprentices passing through is still quite high.”

”Because the subjects of Dan’s experiment were all insane followers of the Seed, even in their condition, the pass rate was close to 10%. If replaced by elite apprentices, such as the geniuses from the new star competition, their pass rate would likely increase even more.”

”Precisely because this isn’t a certain death situation, and those who pass can receive extremely rich rewards, even the Orderly Guild is willing to cooperate in capturing ownerless Special Undead to gift to the passers. Under this situation, Nail Granny agreed to Dan’s request and issued this far journey task.”

Seeing Angel’s brow still furrowed, Antonio thought for a moment and continued: ”If Mr. Pat were to visit the Sky Tower now, he would find that the far journey task is actually marked with a death rate that could reach ninety percent.”

Implication being, knowing that the death rate is extremely high, apprentices willing to participate, then the responsibility lies with them.

Angel did not argue with Antonio about whether the far journey task should be issued—it had already been issued, and arguing further was unnecessary.

Moreover, Angel did not believe he could change everything on his own.

Additionally, Angel did not have a pressing reason to change anything.

From the current perspective, the method proposed by Dan does indeed increase the pass rate, although it is very ”taxing on people.”

”Since Nail Granny recognized the method used by Dan, naturally I recognize it as well. I also believe this method can indeed increase pass rates... But does Dan truly believe that relying only on apprentices can rescue the fallen comrades?”

Antonio shook his head: ”Dan isn’t that optimistic, but as long as enough people pass through, there are more opportunities to touch the core of the Reincarnation Casket.”

In fact, Dan’s thinking aligns with Frost.

After passing through the Reincarnation Casket, Frost continued entering again, hoping through many cycles to touch the core of the Reincarnation Casket, which is its true form.

Once the true form is found, then it might be possible to contain it.

Dan’s intention is the same, as long as they contain the Reincarnation Casket, then Frost and Zorn can naturally come out...

In fact, from Dan’s statement, Angel vaguely sense that Dan might not think Frost and Zorn have fallen; they are most likely just trapped in a small space-time and, given their capabilities, the future holds a chance for them to emerge.

Dan claims they have fallen merely as a pretext.

He hopes more, in fact, not placed on rescuing Frost and Zorn, but instead on the far journey task issued by Nail Granny.

As a mysterious analyst, if he can solve the issue of the Reincarnation Casket, an object of disorder, by relying on himself and a group of apprentices, his rank in succession when returning to the Orderly Guild may greatly improve.

In simple terms, it’s still for his own benefit.

But it must be said that the interests Dan seeks do not actually conflict with anyone else’s. Moreover, his goal now aligns with Nail Granny’s goal.

So even though Angel sees this point, he doesn’t intend to tell Antonio.

The question Angel is pondering is another...

Knowing some truths about the far journey task now, he’s more curious as to why Galatea thinks his crafted hat can enhance survival rates.

Did Dong Liz truly seek Ivor after entering the Reincarnation Casket?

And according to the Prophecy from the Stargazing day, Dong Liz and others, after entering the Reincarnation Casket, will go to the small space-time of the ”Doomsday Eye.” This space-time seems to be a strong space-time where evil gods and divine spirits fiercely battle.

Could their fatal calamity lie in this space-time? And is the way to break the calamity related to Ivor?

If this is the case, did Ivor, after leaving the initial cage, also come to this horrific world of the Doomsday Eye?

Angel’s mind is very confused. He isn’t worried about Dong Liz, but he is concerned about Ivor, or rather, Alex... During the time he became Alex’s Back Spirit, a strong friendship formed between them.

Moreover, Angel genuinely sympathizes with Alex’s experiences.

Having finally escaped the cage, no longer a bird in a cage, only to end up in a world teeming with evil spirits, which is even more terrifying than the first cage world.

Even if he could break Dong Liz’s calamity, can he break his own calamity?

Angel sighed deeply, his heart filled with melancholy.

If given the chance, he would indeed like to use his Illusion Body to meet Alex again. Yet, probably there won’t be an opportunity. Last time he entered the Reincarnation Casket, it was purely accidental, alighting unexpectedly from the ”High Dimensional Train” created by the Gate of Void, and falling into the Reincarnation Casket.

Even if he activates the Gate of Void next time, he wouldn’t know where to disembark, let alone how to meet Alex.

So, if a meeting happens again, it would only be when Alex emerges from the Reincarnation Casket.

But would such a situation truly occur?

...

After learning the reality about the far journey task, Angel no longer concerned himself with the matter. However, he did request Antonio to provide him with the list of applicants for the far journey task at the appropriate time.

He wouldn’t discourage others from participating in the far journey task, but if friends of his signed up, he surely would counsel them.

After finishing the topic of the far journey task, Midora brought up searching for Sterling again.

Angel naturally wouldn’t refuse.

Originally, he planned to have a private conversation with Sterling, but since he wasn’t very familiar with Sterling, having Midora assist him would be far better than being alone.

As for Antonio... Given he is the divine protector of the Research and Development Institute, he certainly maintains an external neutrality but is impartial internally, so Angel wasn’t counting on him to assist.

Then, Antonio and Midora went to contact Sterling, while Angel turned his attention to Olao beside him.

Olao’s expression bore curiosity, seemingly contemplating something; his gaze occasionally darted to the corners.

It was evident he was still puzzled about how Angel previously obtained the information.

Angel did not explain, knowing that Olao would understand everything once in the Wilderness of Dreams.

He turned to Olao now because he needed Olao to assist him in one thing.

To go to the Transmission Hall and receive Portia’s assistant, the witch named Shariel.
