Warlock Apprentice

He decided to start his research from the very edge of the right eye, the least important green pattern.

This research took him most of the day.

It wasn’t until nightfall, when a ”thump thump thump” sound came from the gear button, that Angel raised his head from the desk.

”Who would contact me at this time?” Angel muttered, taking the mini signal tower from the button and skillfully installing it.

After a while, on the other end of the light screen, a freckled little girl in a goose-yellow dress enthusiastically blew a kiss to Angel from afar.

”Hua Hua.” Angel’s eyes gradually softened: ”What made you decide to find me?”

The question had just fallen when Angel seemed to think of something: ”Are you here to see Popota?”

Hua Que shook her head: ”No, I just want to see Brother Pat.”

Angel was startled and asked in confusion: ”In terms of timing, Popota should be... Do you not plan to see him one last time?”

Hua Que still shook her head: ”To be precise, tomorrow morning my brother’s soul will return to the Abyss. However, I said what needed to be said last time, and Brother Dororo also told me not to see him again.”

”Oh? Dororo told you not to see Popota when you met last time?” Angel had left them a private space before, so it was the first time he heard about Dororo meeting with Hua Que.

Hua Que nodded: ”He told me that my brother’s soul would finally return to silence in the Abyss, under the control of the Demon God. And a blank soul with no consciousness is sure to attract the Demon God’s attention.”

”At that time, the Demon God might use some special methods to explore the secret of why my brother’s soul became blank.” Hua Que glanced at Angel secretly at this point; she didn’t know why her brother’s soul would turn blank, but since Dororo said so, she thought it was Angel’s way to save her brother?

”Even if my brother’s soul is blank, some obsessions might remain in his soul body because of death. And I was the greatest obsession he once had, so I shouldn’t meet him again, lest I stir those obsessions and attract the Demon God’s attention.”

Upon hearing this, Angel’s expression didn’t change, but his emotions fluctuated inside.

Angel naturally understood the meaning Hua Que was conveying. What surprised him was that it was Dororo who had reminded her of all this... meaning that when Dororo knew Angel would save Popota, he deduced that Angel would extract Popota’s consciousness, letting his blank soul fall into the Abyss?

Angel remembered that he had never told anyone else besides Sanders about the method to save Popota.

How did Dororo figure it out?

Prophecy, maybe? Could it be that Dororo already knew about the existence of the Wilderness of Dreams?

Angel really wanted to verify with Dororo whether he had seen the existence of the Wilderness of Dreams through the prophecy. Unfortunately, he couldn’t get an answer to this question now, because Dororo had set out for the Crown Star Church a few days ago.

If he wants to know, he’ll have to wait until Dororo returns.

Angel decided to temporarily set aside this doubt. Even if Dororo had learned about the Wilderness of Dreams, it didn’t matter.

The two people he currently trusted the most were Frode and Dororo. This trust differed fundamentally between these two people: Frode gained Angel’s trust because of the vow, while Dororo had an emotional bond that made Angel willing to trust him.

Angel had initially planned to give Dororo equipment to log into the Wilderness of Dreams, but he postponed this plan after learning he would participate in the Observe Stars Day event. The Wilderness of Dreams was not yet ready to be made public, and since the event would be full of Prophet Wizards, if those old devout priests noticed any traces, they might follow the clue and find the Wilderness of Dreams.

”Apart from you, does Popota have any other obsessions?” Angel asked.

Hua Que shook her head: ”There should be, but Brother Dororo said he would talk to my brother, help him calm all obsessions, and avoid traces in the present world being discovered by the Demon God.”

Paused for a moment, Hua Que softly asked: ”Did they talk?”

Angel nodded: ”They did.”

Last time, after Dororo saw Hua Que, he proactively approached Angel with a request to meet Popota.

In retrospect, Dororo probably wanted to extinguish the obsessions in Popota’s heart, prompting him to see him.

It was all fundamentally driven by concerns that Popota’s blank soul would make the Demon God aware of Angel.

One has to acknowledge that this move by Dororo saved them from a potentially existing calamity.

However, that kid never mentioned it as if it never happened. If Hua Que hadn’t told him today, Angel wouldn’t have known.

Angel pondered that when Dororo returned from the Crown Star Church, he should reward him somehow.

As Angel’s thoughts turned, Hua Que said: ”This time I contacted Brother Pat mainly to thank you.”

Angel lifted his eyes to look at Hua Que.

Hua Que’s smile made her eyes look like crescent moons: ”I saw another image this morning.”

”Although I don’t know how Brother Pat saved my foolish brother, in the image I saw, there was him!” Hua Que smiled widely, her cheeks’ dimples large enough to fit a rhombus. ”And what’s more, I was also in it.”

Seeing this image made Hua Que excitedly ask Isabel to reach out to Angel for her.

Hua Que knew Angel would save Popota, but how he would do it and whether they would meet again after the fact were all unknown. And today’s image told her she’d meet Popota again, how could she not be excited?

After hearing Hua Que’s words, Angel wasn’t very surprised; he planned to bring Popota to the Wilderness of Dreams.

The Wilderness of Dreams would certainly open in the future, giving Hua Que a chance to meet Popota when entering it.

”What exactly was the image you saw?” Angel wasn’t surprised, but he was curious about what Hua Que saw.

Without doubting him, Hua Que vividly described the details of the image.

Upon hearing her description, Angel’s expression turned a bit quirky. What Angel cared most about was the background, yet Hua Que’s image was like last time, with a background that was either dark or blurred; this time, it featured both.

Under the pitch-dark night sky, Hua Que held Popota’s hand, standing on a high ground with an indistinct surrounding environment.

The only light source was the sparse stars in the night sky.

By starlight, one could vaguely see behind the plateau they stood on, there seemed to be a shadow like a mountain...

”Is that all?”

”Yes.”
