Warlock Apprentice

”Here we are.” Tree Spirit and Angel descended from high up.

Angel looked around; it was a broad land stretching to infinity. No rolling snowy mountains, no frozen glaciers, just a barren plain.

The snow was sparse, a thin layer, not even as thick as a finger joint. In many places, the snow had not covered, revealing gray stones beneath, bleak and solemn.

”You should sense the anomaly, right?” Tree Spirit asked.

Angel nodded. Though it seemed desolate here, with no sign of human construction, upon arrival, his keen spiritual sense detected faint space fluctuations somewhere.

Presumably, this is where the ruins are located.

However, these ruins are somewhat special; Angel sensed the space fluctuations but couldn’t capture and open them.

It hasn’t emerged yet, sealed within layered space gaps. To activate the ruins, one must accurately locate their position amidst the endless gaps.

This is not an easy task. Even now, they haven’t located which gap the demon hides behind Asaz.

But since Tree Spirit brought him here, there must be other ways to enter these ruins.

Indeed, Tree Spirit quickly provided the answer: ”Entering these ruins isn’t difficult; you just need a key.”

The so-called key is not a traditional key but refers to related objects of the ruins.

Tree Spirit handed Angel a bundle of scrolls: ”This is the key.”

Angel took the scrolls and noticed a line of text on the cover written in a somewhat archaic universal language: ”.”

Angel thought the key was recorded inside the scroll and was about to look inside. But then he sensed something unusual.

In the ruins emanating space fluctuations in front of him, something seemed to be resonating with the scrolls.

It was like a fateful connection.

With Angel’s current ability, he could easily trace this connection to capture the specific location of space fluctuations.

”So the key refers to this?” Angel suddenly realized that the key wasn’t recorded within the scroll but was the scroll itself.

Tree Spirit: ”The previous occupant of these ruins was named Tizarro. He left behind the lower volume of Experiment No. 117 Record in the ruins. Since the upper and lower volumes are part of a set, holding the upper volume allows you to perceive the location of the lower volume.”

When you perceive the lower volume’s location, the ruins hidden in space gaps will naturally reveal their coordinates.

”If you’ve sensed the location of the lower volume, you can now attempt to open the ruins using the coordinates,” Tree Spirit said.

Angel nodded and closed his eyes, using spiritual power to wander in the void space with the ”key” in hand. When he sensed a significant space fluctuation, he opened his eyes.

A glowing energy from Angel’s fingertips gradually merged into the void. To capture and activate the fleeting space fluctuation.

Shortly after the glowing energy merged into the void, without a sound, a large metal door materialized in front of them.

Tree Spirit examined the door closely: ”Hmm... it is indeed the entrance to the ruins, and the sealing set in the past has not been removed; inside should remain unchanged.”

Tree Spirit then pushed the door open without hesitation: ”Let’s go inside.”

Behind the door, according to Tree Spirit, is a narrow corridor, yet now it is pitch black inside, and nothing is visible to the naked eye.

”There are wall sconces that can be lit. But I think there’s no need.”

After Angel and Tree Spirit walked into the corridor, Tree Spirit began to introduce these ruins, only to halt suddenly.

Angel looked back and saw Tree Spirit still standing at the entrance with a peculiar expression.

”Lord Tree Spirit, what’s the matter?” Angel glanced at the deep corridor. ”Is there a problem with these ruins?”

Tree Spirit coughed: ”There’s no problem with the ruins, but my true body... someone is at the Spirit Tree Hall looking for me.”

Angel didn’t ask who it was, but Tree Spirit spoke himself: ”It’s Lianna.”

Angel had an epiphany: ”Presumably, it’s about the venue for the Tea Party again?”

Tree Spirit nodded: ”Probably, but this time Lianna didn’t come alone. She brought the Fire Charm Witch, and...”

”And?”

Tree Spirit lowered his head, hiding his expression in shadows, quickly saying a name.

Although Tree Spirit spoke somewhat vaguely, Angel still heard the name—Night Cervi.

Angel instantly understood; Lianna likely intended to ”convince” Tree Spirit with Night Cervi.

Lianna’s move was quite clever. Likely, Tree Spirit would compromise this time, for everyone knows Tree Spirit seems to have a crush on Night Cervi.

If Night Cervi were to speak up, Tree Spirit would hardly refuse.

Angel noticed Tree Spirit’s expression was a bit subtle, likely the beauty strategy was already underway.

”Lord Tree Spirit, go handle things over there first. The ruins have been sealed for hundreds of years; there’s probably no issue. I’ll take care of things here myself,” Angel kindly suggested.

Tree Spirit hesitated for a moment, then nodded: ”Alright.”

However, Tree Spirit didn’t leave immediately but turned and stepped out of the ruins’ door, lightly tapping the ground at the entrance.

A pale green leaf leisurely descended from mid-air, blending into the earth. In the next second, a lush tree appeared out of thin air at the entrance.

”This tree serves as one of my avatars; if you encounter any matters in the future, you can contact me through this tree,” Tree Spirit said.

Angel also stepped out of the corridor, looking at the lush tree shedding leaves in the wind, and then at the surrounding desolate and rocky wasteland...

Indeed, it doesn’t feel out of place at all.

Tree Spirit seemed to notice how out of harmony the tree was with its surroundings. He awkwardly smiled: ”I’ll make some adjustments.”

Angel shook his head: ”No need, just conceal it a bit.”

With that, Angel’s eyes flashed with a faint light, and in the next moment, the tree standing on the barren land transformed into a low, withered stump.

This was a special technique of Nightmare Illusion, able to conceal the tree and also cover the entrance to the ruins. Most importantly, it shields from most energy detections, and even True Knowledge Level Wizards would struggle to notice unless they probe thoroughly.

Seeing the illusion had covered the tree, Tree Spirit nodded slightly, his figure gradually blending into the air until disappearing.

Angel turned back and entered the dark ruins.
