Triple X System

The explosion was deafening, the kinetic force blowing away the scalding red steam for a fifty-meter radius. The Order Justicar let out one final, world-shattering shriek of pure agony as its high-undead core was completely vaporized by the fire of the first great demon. Its slender blackened rapier shattered into a dozen useless metal shards, and its entire elegant frame crashed hard through the upper platform railing, falling several meters downward before landing as a pile of smoking, charred bone and velvet ash right on the lower walkway.Kyle dropped to one knee on the ruined platform, his right leg smoking, his breath coming in shallow, desperate gasps as his indicators flashed warning levels.[SYSTEM NOTIFICATION: ELITE ENEMY ELIMINATED.][HOST HP: 420/1000][DEMON ENERGY: 0/2500][SHADOW ENERGY: 150/1000]Down on the lower floor, Elara stared at the pile of charred ash in absolute, stunned silence. She looked up at Kyle, a breathless, hysterical chuckle escaping her lips. ”You... you actually killed an Order Justicar. A level 58 Elite. You truly are a monster, Kyle.”Kyle pushed himself back up to his feet, bracing his hand against the ruined railing as he stared down at the lower floor. The battle was won, his energy pools were completely dry once more, but as his eyes landed on Yua’s third elemental marker right next to the ash, his resolve hardened. The path was open, the defenses were cracking, and they were finally stepping into the deep heart of the fortress.

Kyle descended the metal stairs with heavy, echoing steps, his hand sliding along the wet railing for balance. The dark blood from his cheek had dried into a stiff crust, and his right leg hummed with a deep, throbbing ache from the sheer stress of the final strike. Every step felt like pushing through waist-deep water, but his eyes never left the lower floor.

Elara met him at the bottom of the structure, her hands buried deep in the pockets of her ash-stained cloak. Her breathing had finally stabilized, but the pale shadow beneath her eyes showed just how close she had come to her own limits. She looked down at the pile of charred velvet and smoking bone fragments that used to be a Level 58 Elite, then back up at Kyle.

”I’ve seen high-ranking warlords back in the central sectors try to go toe-to-toe with an Order Justicar,” Elara said, her voice dropping into a quiet, serious register. ”Most of them ended up as decorations on the facility walls. You’re either incredibly lucky, or whatever bloodline you’re carrying is a lot older than you’re letting on.”

”It’s a mix of both,” Kyle grunted, stopping right at the edge of the ash pile. He didn’t have the energy to trade cryptic remarks. His vision was clear, but the empty indicators in his peripheral view were a constant reminder that he was walking a razor’s edge. ”The map layout showed this room was the final major checkpoint before the primary processing hub. If there are more of these guys waiting behind that secondary security vault, we’re going to have a real problem.”

”There shouldn’t be,” Elara replied, stepping around the debris to examine the deep, jagged claw marks left in the reinforced floor plating right next to Yua’s third marker. ”An Order Justicar is a regional warden. Vladimir doesn’t cluster his elites in a single room unless the base is under an active, full-scale siege. But look at these slashes in the steel. The depth of the metal deformation... Yua didn’t just fight him. She completely overpowered him before moving forward.”

Kyle knelt down, his fingers tracing the faint, radiating warmth still rising from the dried vampiric blood on the walkway. The realization sent a complicated wave of emotion through his chest—a strange mixture of relief that she was strong enough to tear through a fortress, and a heavy, persistent guilt that he hadn’t been there to stand beside her when the change happened.

”She went through that central bulkhead,” Kyle said, standing up and pointing toward a massive, arching set of double iron doors at the far end of the refinery floor. The surface of the iron was heavily dented, the security runes lining the frame flickering unsteadily as if their underlying power grid had been violently disrupted.

”Then let’s move before the secondary security sweep realizes the warden isn’t answering his transmission lines,” Elara said, throwing her hood back over her head.

They pushed through the heavy, damaged bulkhead, stepping out of the industrial roar of the refinery lines and into a completely different environment.

The corridor ahead was wide, silent, and constructed from massive blocks of dark, polished obsidian that seemed to absorb the dim light cast by the crimson lanterns. The air up here was freezing, entirely devoid of the chemical solvents and iron-rich stench of the lower floors. Instead, it smelled faintly of old parchment, damp earth, and a thick, suffocating wave of ancient authority that made the hairs on the back of Kyle’s neck stand up.

As they walked, the silence grew so absolute that the sound of their own boots against the polished stone felt uncomfortably loud.

”This isn’t part of the manufacturing line,” Elara whispered, her hand instinctively hovering near her defensive mudras despite her low mana reserves. ”The architecture... this section of the compound predates Vladimir’s arrival on Kraken. He didn’t build this. He built his facility *around* it.”

”It’s an archive,” Kyle muttered, his eyes tracking a series of massive, faded tapestries hanging along the obsidian walls.

He stopped in front of one of the heavy cloths, his gaze locking onto the woven imagery. The tapestry depicted a massive, ancient tree with sprawling roots and a giant central crystal, perfectly matching the structure he had just destroyed back in the hidden grove. But around the base of the tree, thousands of small, low-tier creatures were kneeling in a circle, their hands raised toward a majestic, silver-horned deer that sat framed against a violent crimson sky.

Kyle felt a sudden, sharp prickle of heat against the skin of his left hand. The runic tattoo didn’t throb or vibrate with rage this time; it emitted a slow, heavy pulse of pure, old sorrow that echoed directly inside his chest core. The parasite was quiet, refusing to speak telepathically, but the emotional feedback was undeniable.

”They really did worship it,” Kyle said quietly, his mind flashing back to the conversation he had overheard among the mutated creatures in the basin. ”The locals weren’t lying. That beast used to be the literal anchor for this hemisphere before the corruption took hold.”

”And Vladimir broke it,” Elara added, her voice tight as she moved ahead, her eyes scanning the floor. ”He and the Shadow Lord engineered the fallback of the regional seals to turn the planet into a closed-loop system for their ritual. If Yua is hunting the core... she’s trying to reverse the entire alignment.”

The corridor eventually opened up into a massive, circular chamber that looked like an ancient library or an observation deck. The walls were lined with thousands of stone alcoves containing crystal vials, old leather journals, and fragments of shattered runic stones. In the center of the chamber sat a wide, circular stone table covered in scattered maps, architectural blueprints of other worlds, and a singular, heavy leather-bound ledger that was wide open.

Kyle stepped up to the table, his hand resting on the smooth stone as he looked down at the ledger. The pages were covered in a tight, elegant script written in a language that looked completely foreign, but the moment his eyes scanned the text, his system’s translation mechanics instantly smoothed the characters into fluent English within his mind.

”It’s a planetary ledger,” Kyle said, his brow furrowing as he read the translated logs. ”Vladimir’s personal notes. He’s been tracking the soul-harvest efficiency across three separate star systems. Kraken was just the testing ground. The moment the resurrection of the Death God reaches fifty percent capacity, he plans to deploy the same thrall network to the neighboring sectors.”

Elara walked around the opposite side of the table, her fingers gently touching a small, empty glass pedestal that sat in the very center of the maps. ”Kyle... look at the dust patterns on this stand. There was a high-tier object resting here less than an hour ago. Something heavy, circular, and heavily saturated with elemental mana.”

Kyle leaned over, his eyes narrowing as he checked the local space. A faint, lingering trail of silver and purple energy particles was still lazily drifting off the pedestal, rising into the cold air of the archives.

”The Heart of Kraken,” Kyle realized, his heart skipping a beat against his ribs. ”She took it. Yua was here, she broke through the archive security, and she took the core element right off the table.”

”Which means she’s no longer inside the compound,” Elara said, her head snapping toward a secondary exit at the back of the circular chamber—a narrow, reinforced iron door that led straight out toward the deep, vertical rifts of the lower trenches. ”She’s moving toward the primary alignment node outside the facility walls. If she integrates the core into the trench lines, she will forcefully purge the dark energy saturation of this entire sector.”

Before Kyle could take a step toward the exit, a deep, heavy vibration rattled the stone floor of the archives. It wasn’t the rhythmic drone of the refinery machinery or the seismic signature of a Nabuyak pack. It was a slow, crushing pulse of pure, absolute malice that seemed to drop the temperature of the entire circular room to near-freezing.

From the dark corridor they had just used to enter the archives, a low, slow scraping sound echoed—the distinct sound of metal chains dragging across polished obsidian stone.

Kyle spun around instantly, his right leg grounding his stance as he reached behind his back, his fingers wrapping around the hilt of his blade. He checked his resources, but the numbers remained dangerously unchanged. He had zero Demon Energy and only 150 points of Shadow Energy left in his pool. He was completely unequipped for another heavy confrontation.

”Someone knows the warden is dead,” Elara whispered, her face turning an absolute, deathly shade of white as she backed up against the stone table, her fingers helplessly twitching as she realized her mana core was still completely empty.

The dragging sound grew louder, accompanied by a heavy, slow heartbeat that Kyle could feel vibrating directly inside his own ribs. A massive, towering shadow slowly elongated across the obsidian floor of the entrance, completely blocking the red light of the outer corridor.

Kyle gritted his teeth, his crimson eyes burning like twin embers through the dimness of the archive room. He didn’t know what was about to walk through that doorway, but he knew the survival limits of his level 50 stats were about to be tested to the absolute breaking point. The path to Yua was right behind them, the core was on the move, and the true nightmare of Kraken’s deeper defense lines had finally arrived on their doorstep.
