Triple X System

The explosion of black hellfire and compressed kinetic energy slammed straight through the top of the construct’s stitched skull, shattering its central processing matrix and completely blowing out the cracked crimson lens. The three-meter flesh golem froze in place for a single, silent second, the black fire eating away at its ironwood internal skeleton before its entire massive structure completely collapsed inward, disintegrating into a heavy pile of smoking grey ash and melted iron bolts.Kyle landed heavily on his feet as the rootcrystal coating faded from his insignia, his body completely spent as his resource indicators flashed warnings.[SYSTEM NOTIFICATION: HIGH-STAKES THREAT TERMINATED.][HOST HP: 380/1000][DEMON ENERGY: 0/2500][SHADOW ENERGY: 50/1000][Temporary Skill ”Rootcrystal Coating” has locked. Contract baseline drain restored to 5%.]Kyle leaned against the drainage room wall, his chest heaving as he wiped the dark sweat from his face. The fight had been a brutal, high-stakes nightmare, and they hadn’t even breached the primary security doors of the inner compound yet.Elara slowly made her way down from the catwalk, her steps tentative as she approached him, her gaze lingering on the back of his left hand with a deep, silent curiosity. ”We survived... but the deeper we go into this facility, the less room we have to breathe. We need a secure sector to recover our energy before the next sweep registers this golem’s absence.”Kyle nodded, his crimson eyes locking onto a narrow, heavy steel maintenance hatch at the back of the drainage chamber that led further into the secondary processing lines. ”The map shows a localized blind spot just past that hatch. Let’s move before the patrol schedules shift.” He straightened his posture, grounding his footing as they stepped past the ash of the detector, pushing deeper into the belly of the fortress.

The iron hatch shut with a heavy, hollow thud, plunging the narrow utility corridor into a stagnant, dim red glow. Kyle leaned his shoulder against the cold metal, his breath coming in uneven, ragged drags. His ribs ached where the golem’s iron chains had squeezed the air out of him, and the numbers blinking at the edge of his vision weren’t comforting.

He was running on absolute fumes, and the passive life-force drain from his soul contract was a slow, rhythmic pull that felt like an anchor dragging behind his heart.

Beside him, Elara practically slid down the vertical pipe casing, her legs completely giving out as she hit the concrete floor. Her dark cloak was coated in grey ash, and the pale skin of her face looked almost translucent under the pulsing red emergency lights of the facility. She leaned her head back against a massive, humming copper conduit, her eyelids fluttering with exhaustion.

”If another one of those things walks through that door right now,” Elara whispered, her voice cracking, ”I’m not even going to fight it. I’m just going to lie down and let it step on me.”

Kyle let out a weak, dry chuckle, adjusting his stance. ”Don’t tempt fate, witch. According to the map layout, this maintenance crawlspace is a designated blind spot. The localized energy transmission lines bypass this junction, so the security grid doesn’t scan the atmospheric signatures here. We have exactly twelve minutes before the primary patrol route on the lower floor resets its automated sweep.”

”Twelve minutes to pull a miracle out of our pockets,” she muttered, her fingers weakly tracing the tattered hem of her cloak. ”My mana core is entirely empty, Kyle. The ambient dark energy out there is too dense for me to filter naturally without Yua’s distillate potions, and the last drop of that silver liquid went into your throat.”

Kyle didn’t answer immediately. He closed his eyes, navigating the internal functions of the System interface. He had 10,000 XXX points sitting in his reserves, but spamming stamina regenerations wouldn’t patch his ruptured muscles or replenish his completely dry Demon Energy pool. He needed a physical catalyst, something that could jumpstart his demonic physiology without lighting up the sector like a flare.

”Look behind that primary valve matrix,” Kyle said, his eyes snapping open as his mini-map highlighted a localized chemical storage terminal just five meters down the crawlspace.

Elara forced herself to crawl forward, her brow furrowing as she peeked around a cluster of massive, sweating iron pipes. Embedded into the concrete foundation was a row of heavy glass canisters encased in reinforced brass netting. Inside the glass, a thick, bubbling fluid pulsed with a sickening, deep crimson radiance. It looked like concentrated, pressurized blood, but it was completely free of the grey, necrotic decay that infected the rest of the facility’s waste lines.

”What is that?” Elara asked, her fingers hovering over the brass handles. ”It feels... dense. Like compressed vitality, but it’s completely synthetic.”

”It’s high-grade blood-essence extract,” Kyle explained, stepping down the corridor with a slight limp, his Abyssal Talon leg scraping against the metal floor grate. ”The system’s structural analysis indicates Vladimir’s faction uses these specific canisters to stabilize the inner tissue layers of the grunt-tier constructs during the calcification process. It isn’t living blood, but it’s heavily saturated with planetary mana and concentrated life force.”

Elara’s sharp eyes widened as she connected the pieces. ”Wait. If it’s synthetic blood-essence... a high-tier witch can use an inversion mudra to extract the raw mana particles directly from the fluid. And you... you’re a demon successor. Your core can digest blood-based nutrients directly.”

”Exactly,” Kyle said, his jaw setting as he grabbed the heavy brass latch of the primary canister. ”We don’t have time to find a shortcut around the security lines. We have to force our way into the next sector, and we can’t do that while we’re both running on empty.”

With a brutal twist of his wrists, Kyle snapped the security seal on the valve. A sharp, pressurized hiss cut through the quiet corridor, followed by the heavy, iron-rich scent of the crimson extract filling the air. He didn’t waste a second. He tilted the massive canister backward, pouring a direct stream of the thick, radiating fluid into his mouth.

The moment the synthetic blood-essence hit his demonic core, Kyle’s entire body violently tensed.

It didn’t feel like the soothing, cool starlight of Elara’s silver brew. This was crude, violent, and hot. It felt like swallowing liquid iron, a blazing wave of raw, unbridled vitality exploding through his stomach and tearing through his dormant mana circuits with the force of an unguided shockwave. His heart thundered against his ribs like a war drum, the runic tattoo of the horned deer on his left hand flashing a bright, defensive crimson as the parasite inside him greedily snatched a portion of the incoming nutrients.

Kyle let out a long, ragged exhale, a thick plume of red-tinted vapor escaping his lips as he slammed the empty canister back into the concrete slot. The blistering, white-hot heat slowly settled into a heavy, roaring hum within his chest. The fractures in his ribs were gone, the blistered flesh on his arms from the dark flames completely replaced by a smooth layer of rejuvenated devil scales.

”Your turn,” Kyle rasped, his voice dropping into an incredibly deep, echoing timber as he pointed toward the secondary canister.

Elara swallowed hard, her guard dropping completely as she realized her options were non-existent. She sat cross-legged in front of the bubbling glass, her hands quickly weaving into a highly complex, inverted dark arts mudra. She didn’t drink the fluid. Instead, she pressed her open palms directly against the thick glass container, her eyes closing as she began to chant in a low, rhythmic whisper.

A second later, the deep crimson radiance inside the canister began to rapidly drain, separating into thousands of tiny, glowing particles of pure, translucent purple mana that traveled directly up her forearms, sinking straight into her skin.

Elara gasped, her back arching as the sudden influx of raw, distilled energy flooded her dry mana core. The deathly pallor on her face vanished, replaced by a sharp, vibrant flush, and the micro-bursts of kinetic energy around her tattered cloak snapped back into a resting, active baseline.

”Incredible,” she breathed out, opening her eyes, which were now glowing with a faint, dangerous purple intensity. ”The distillation rate in these synthetic canisters is remarkably pure. My mana pool is back to seventy percent. I can actually cast high-output spells without worrying about my core fracturing.”

Kyle checked the internal timer at the edge of his vision. They had exactly three minutes left before the blind spot window closed.

”We’re running out of time,” Kyle said, his posture straightening as he grounded his footing. ”According to the radar, the maintenance hatch at the far end of this crawlspace drops directly into the auxiliary processing lines. If we use the high-velocity fluid pipelines as a structural corridor, we can entirely bypass the secondary checkpoint gates.”

Elara stood up, brushing the rust dust from her cloak, her sharp eyes studying the narrow metal hatch he was pointing toward. ”The pipelines? Kyle, those lines are constantly pressurized with high-density chemical runoff. If the automated valves cycle while we’re inside the shaft, the pressure alone will crush our skeletal structures before we can even process the pain.”

”The map fragment logs the valve cycle intervals,” Kyle replied smoothly, a confident, sharp grin returning to his lips. ”We have a sixty-second gap between each flush cycle. If we use my shadow walk combined with your kinetic speed buffs, we can clear the distance before the line initializes.”

”You’re completely insane, demon,” Elara muttered, though a small, defiant smile matched his expression. ”But considering our alternatives involve fighting a corridor full of level 45 tanks, your insanity is starting to sound remarkably logical.”

Kyle stepped to the heavy iron hatch, his fingers gripping the locking mechanism. He channeled 100 points of his remaining Shadow Energy, preparing to wrap both of their frames in the fluid camouflage of the shadows once more.

”Hold your breath, witch,” Kyle said, his hand tensing on the lever.

He threw the hatch open, the low, mechanical roar of the facility’s inner machinery filling the crawlspace as they stepped through the threshold, pushing deeper into the dark, churning belly of the vampire fortress. They hadn’t reached Yua yet, and the shadow lord was still a distant threat, but the path ahead was officially open, and they were no longer walking it empty-handed.
