Triple X System

The descent from the jagged ridges toward the Shifting Abyssal Trenches felt like walking straight into the jaws of a subterranean behemoth.

As Kyle and Elara pushed further east, the planetary miasma thickened, transitioning from a lazy violet fog into a heavy, dark grey smog that tasted like ash and oxidized copper. The ambient dark energy density rose by the meter, pulsing with a rhythmic, sickening frequency that made the stone beneath their boots vibrate. Even with the 3-week life crystal blessing actively safeguarding Elara’s baseline vitality, she kept her hood pulled low, her breathing shallow as she continuously monitored the crushing pressure of the atmosphere.

Kyle walked slightly ahead, his crimson eyes scanning the shifting horizon. His HP was steady at 650, and his Demon Energy had slowly trickled up to 850 out of 2500 thanks to the residual mana vapor from the Lunar Mist Distillate. Still, he was far from full strength, and the terrain ahead offered zero room for error.

[Host, alert,] Snow’s voice suddenly echoed inside his mind, her tone flat and analytical. [The system’s localized spatial radar is picking up twelve high-density energy signatures positioned exactly 400 meters ahead, entrenched within the narrow pass of the upper trench shelf. They are stationary, masking their biological output.]

Kyle instantly halted, extending his left arm to signal Elara to stop. ”We’ve got company,” he whispered, his voice barely carrying over the low, whistling wind of the canyons. ”Twelve targets. Entrenched in the pass.”

Elara crept up beside him, her brow furrowing as she strained her senses. ”I don’t feel anything. No mana leaks, no spiritual fluctuations. Are you sure?”

”The system doesn’t make tracking mistakes, witch,” Kyle replied smoothly. ”They are masking their output. Which means they aren’t wild beasts. They’re organized.”

Utilizing his *Shadow Walk*, Kyle expended 100 Shadow Energy, wrapping both of their frames in an invisible, fluid silhouette of pure darkness. They glided silently along the jagged basalt walls, moving closer to the lip of the narrow canyon pass until they could peer directly down onto the upper shelf.

What they saw made Kyle’s jaw tighten.

Standing in a loose, tactical perimeter across the pass were twelve humanoid figures. At first glance, they looked like standard, low-tier undead thralls—tattered clothes, pale, decaying flesh, and hollow expressions. But as Kyle activated his *Eyes of Truth*, the baseline data that forced its way into his peripheral vision shattered any illusion of them being mindless trash.

**[TARGET INSPECTION: VLADIMIR’S GRUND-TIER BLOOD PUPPETS]**

- Lineage: Synthetic Undead / Blood Construct.

- Level: 45

- Key Attributes: Strength: 240, Agility: 250, Durability: 280.

- Passive Trait [Necro-Hardened Carapace]: Reduces all incoming physical and magical damage by 20%. Immune to pain and biological exhaustion.

- Passive Trait [Blood Siphon]: Successful melee strikes restore 5% of the puppet’s maximum health pool.

*Grund-tier?* Kyle’s mind faltered slightly as he read the system tag. *Level 45 for standard grunt-level guards?*

His own level was 50, but his raw attributes were only slightly higher than these constructs, and there were twelve of them. If Vladimir’s baseline, low-tier guards possessed a durability stat of 280 and a passive damage reduction trait, it meant these things were literal walking tanks.

”They’re Vladimir’s blood puppets,” Kyle muttered internally to Snow, his mental voice laced with a growing frustration. ”But the system says they’re just grunts. Basic foot soldiers.”

”Look at their joints,” Elara whispered sharply beside him, her sharp eyes picking up details through the shadow camouflage. ”Those aren’t natural corpses. Look at the crimson fluid leaking from the stitches in their necks. Those are engineered blood constructs. Their bones have been reinforced with liquid ironwood and calcified blood essence. They are incredibly tough.”

Before Kyle could formulate a stealthy approach vector, one of the blood puppets at the center of the pass suddenly snapped its head upward. Its hollow, milky-white eyes turned directly toward the ridge where they were hiding. The creature didn’t possess a nose, but the stitched slits across its face flared wildly, inhaling the air.

*SCREECH!*

The construct let out a piercing, metallic shriek that echoed off the canyon walls. Instantly, all twelve blood puppets moved with terrifying, synchronized agility. They didn’t lumber like traditional zombies; they exploded forward with an Agility stat of 250, scaling the vertical basalt walls of the ridge like monstrous, multi-legged spiders.

”The shadow camouflage didn’t work!” Elara yelled, her hands instantly weaving a defensive pattern. ”They aren’t tracking our sight or our mana—they are tracking the biological scent of our blood!”

”Get back!” Kyle barked.

He didn’t have the Demon Energy to waste on wide-range *Divergence Flames*, so he had to rely heavily on his physical modifiers and tactical positioning. Leveraging the 15% baseline movement speed from his *Abyssal Talon Manifest*, Kyle leaped off the ridge, intercepting the first three blood puppets mid-climb.

He drove his right leg downward in a brutal template kick, targeting the lead construct’s chest.

*BANG!*

The 25% physical defense ignore from his abyssal limb allowed the kick to smash through the puppet’s necro-hardened carapace, shattering its sternum and sending a geyser of thick, dark crimson fluid spraying across the rock face. The puppet was thrown backward, crashing down onto the lower shelf.

**[Passive Effect Applied: Soul Rend (1 Stack)]**

But to Kyle’s absolute horror, the creature didn’t even slow down. Despite its chest being completely caved in and its spiritual essence leaking, it flipped back onto its feet instantly, its milky eyes completely vacant of pain as it lunged back up the wall.

”Tsk! They really don’t feel a damn thing!” Kyle snarled.

Two more puppets cleared the lip of the ridge, their fingers elongated into sharp, iron-reinforced claws that swiped directly for his torso. Kyle twisted his frame, his invisible devil scales absorbing the brunt of the claws, but the sheer physical force of their 240 Strength stats pushed him back, drawing thin lines of dark blood across his ribs.

**[HP: 650/1000 ---> 590/1000]**

**[Warning: Target has triggered Blood Siphon. Puppet health restored by 5%.]**

”Dammit!” Kyle growled, seeing the scratches on the puppet he had just kicked miraculously knit back together as it absorbed his blood essence.

”Kyle, ducks!” Elara screamed from behind him.

Kyle instinctively dropped low to the stone. Directly over his head, Elara unleashed her secondary polarity. ”Light Ray!”

A piercing beam of concentrated white light shot from her palms, striking the two puppets right in the chest. Because they were undead constructs fundamentally animated by dark necro-magic, the light affinity spell caused their hardened shells to violently blister and crack, smoke pouring from their ironwood-reinforced joints. They stumbled backward, their synchronized coordination momentarily failing.

”Good hit!” Kyle yelled. He didn’t waste the opening. He activated his *Light Combat Skill*, triggering his first *Flash Kill* charge.

He vanished into a streak of pure kinetic motion, reappearing directly behind the two blinded constructs. Pushing his remaining Shadow Energy, he yelled, ”Shadow Bind!”

Thick, concentrated strings of shadow warped from the dark crevices of the ridge, wrapping tightly around the puppets’ legs and arms. Because *Shadow Bind* wasn’t being used on an energy-immune apex beast like the Nabuyak, the shadow cords successfully locked the constructs in place, their 280 Durability useless against a spatial restriction.

With their movements sealed, Kyle channeled 150 Demon Energy into his right palm. ”Dark Flames!”

He slammed his flaming hand directly into the neck stitches of the first puppet, letting the unholy, light-eating hellfire burn through the ironwood core of its spine. The flame violently consumed the dark necro-magic animating the flesh, and with a muffled pop, the construct finally went limp, dissolving into a pile of useless, charred bone and ash.

**[Demon Energy Remaining: 650/2500]**

**[Shadow Energy Remaining: 450/1000]**

”That’s one!” Kyle gasped, his muscles straining as the remaining ten blood puppets cleared the ridge, completely surrounding them in a tight, suffocating circle.

Elara was already breathing heavily, her face pale as she forced her depleted mana core to generate a defensive light shield. ”Kyle... this is insane. We’re burning through our entire energy pools just to permanently take down *one* of them. These are just the basic grunts!”

Kyle stood back-to-back with her, his eyes darting across the ten advancing tanks. The sheer realization of their current situation was starting to give him a massive, pounding headache.

If twelve basic, grunt-level blood puppets stationed at the very outer perimeter of the trenches required this much tactical coordination, high-tier hellfire, and light-affinity magic just to destroy a single unit... *how terrifyingly strong were Vladimir’s elite blood puppets?* How could anyone possibly face an entire army of these things if they colonized more planets across the cosmos? The sheer scale of Vladimir’s military power was an apocalyptic reality that made his current level 50 stats feel completely inadequate.

”Don’t lose focus, witch,” Kyle muttered, his jaw setting as his killing intent ticked up to 25. ”We don’t need to defeat an army today. We just need to break through this pass.”

The ten remaining blood puppets hissed in unison, their crimson neck stitches glowing brightly as they prepared to launch a synchronized mass assault. Kyle tightened his grip, his Abyssal Talon leg hummed with dark purple energy as he prepared to fight for every single inch of the trail ahead. The shadow lord wasn’t here, the elites were still hidden in the deep, but the true horror of Kraken’s war had officially crossed their path.
