Triple X System

Kyle looked upward. The interior of the ancient tree’s massive canopy was fracturing, the violent shaking creating a cascading failure of limbs, but the destruction was also tearing massive holes through the thick, interwoven roof of red leaves.

”Hold on,” Kyle muttered, his voice cold.

Crouching low to load the kinetic tension in his calves, he unleashed the full extent of his agility stats. He took a massive leap, launching himself straight into the air like a cannonball. He shot several meters upward, defying gravity for a brilliant second before slamming his boots down onto a descending, massive branch that was swinging wildly through the air.

He didn’t stop to admire the view or check his balance. Utilizing his existing momentum, he pushed off the collapsing wood, sprinting up the steeply inclined surface and taking another high-velocity leap toward the next tier of branches. His plan was simple and pragmatic: since the interior of the ancient structure was collapsing, the structural failure was bound to create a clear opening to escape somewhere at the very top of this massive tree.

As he cleared the third tier of limbs, a narrow gap of dark sky filtered through the rising dust and falling debris just fifty meters above them.

”Just as I thought,” a sly, confident grin crept onto Kyle’s lips as he sprinted hard toward the makeshift exit. Freedom and open space were right within his grasp.

’I wouldn’t do that if I were you, student,’ the deer’s voice spoke smoothly inside his head, its tone carrying a warning that Kyle found incredibly annoying.

Kyle completely ignored the warning, writing it off as another one of the creature’s cynical, sarcastic ventures meant to throw him off balance or make him hesitate. He had the speed, he had the perfect trajectory, and he wasn’t going to turn back for a ghost story when an apex predator was climbing up from the roots.

Reaching the tip of the highest stable branch closest to the small exit, Kyle activated his core ability to ensure he cleared the gap in one go. ’Shadow Walk!’

He pulled the surrounding darkness into focus, wrapping extra shadows around his feet to give himself an immense, explosive kinetic boost. He launched himself off the splitting wood, rocketing through the final gap toward the open sky of Kraken.

But just as he thought freedom was near, the air in front of the exit instantly crystallized into pure, suffocating malice.

A massive, terrifying entity materialized directly in his flight path, blocking the exit entirely. It wasn’t a solid beast, but a sprawling, swirling vortex of dark energy centered around a colossal, burning red circle. And staring directly down at him from the center of that crimson void were two horizontal, slit-like pupils—monstrous, black snake eyes that locked onto his soul, freezing the very blood in his veins and completely halting his momentum in mid-air.

Suspended mid-air at the absolute apex of the collapsing tree, the explosive momentum of Kyle’s Shadow Walk was instantly swallowed by a wall of crushing, ancient malice.

The entity blocking the exit wasn’t an ordinary beast. The sprawling, swirling vortex of dark energy pulsed like a miniature black hole, centered around a colossal, burning crimson circle. Within that bleeding void, two horizontal, slit-like pupils—monstrous, black snake eyes—locked directly onto Kyle’s soul. The absolute pressure cracked the air, grinding his forward velocity to a dead halt. Gravity reclaimed him, dragging him and the unconscious weight of Elara back down into the fracturing, cavernous interior of the ancient 50-meter trunk.

”Tsk!” Kyle snarled, adjusting his center of gravity as he plummeted.

[Host! Evade left! The Nabuyak’s ambient aura is actively compressing the space around the exit!] Snow’s voice cut through his mental panic, stripped of all sarcasm.

’Shadow Craft!’ Kyle roared internally, expending 150 points of Shadow Energy. Mid-fall, he manifested dense, hardened ropes of solid shadow from the surrounding darkness, anchoring them onto a massive, skyscraper-sized branch swinging violently to his left. He swung hard, his boots slamming against the rotting bark, absorbing the impact with his invisible devil scales. Elara groaned over his shoulder, her breath shallow.

The creature didn’t let them breathe. The massive, incorporeal vortex of dark energy slithered downward through the ruptured canopy, tearing through thick, ancient branches as if they were dry twigs. The black snake eyes flared, and a localized shockwave of pure corruption erupted from the crimson circle, blasting toward Kyle like an invisible tidal wave.

”Get off me!” Kyle barked at the air, his eyes burning a dangerous shade of red. ’Shadow Bind!’

Thick, concentrated strings of shadow warped from the dark corners of the fracturing tree, lashing out to intercept the oncoming dark energy wave. Kyle intended to anchor the attack to the massive trunk, to pivot around it. But the moment his shadow strings touched the vortex, a cold dread settled in his chest.

**[WARNING: Target is immune to Shadow-Attribute status effects and control skills!]**

**[WARNING: Shadow Bind dissolved. Shadow Energy: 850/1000]**

The shadow strings didn’t just fail; they shattered into useless black mist upon contact. The residual shockwave slammed directly into Kyle’s chest. The invisible devil scales beneath his skin rippled, absorbing a portion of the force, but the sheer weight of the impact sent him crashing backward through a thick layer of foliage.

**[HP: 850/1000]**

”Dammit, it didn’t even phase it!” Kyle gritted his teeth, sliding across a breaking branch. He quickly realized physical weaponry would be just as useless against a shifting vortex of sentient energy.

[Host, physical damage vectors will yield a 0% success rate against this specific entity type,] Snow confirmed, a tactical layout displaying the beast’s shifting molecular density in his peripheral vision. [Its current state is purely energetic, anchored by the planet’s dark energy core. Standard physical strikes will pass right through it.]

The Nabuyak roared—a sound that wasn’t heard by the ears, but felt as a violent, psychic vibration that caused the massive 32-meter-wide bark of the ancient tree to split open. Pieces of wood the size of boulders rained down around them, turning the interior of the tree into a meat grinder of falling debris.

The vortex surged forward, a pseudo-limb of darkness lunging straight for Kyle’s head.

Driven by survival instinct, Kyle’s right leg reacted before his mind could even process the danger. The Abyssal Talon Manifest permanently infused into his right limb flared with an ominous, dark purple sheen.

**[Passive Proc Activated: Abyssal Reflex!]**

A massive shadow claw strike swiped upward, dealing a heavy counter-blow directly into the oncoming dark appendage. The strike was visually devastating, tearing a path through the dust and debris. But as it met the vortex, the claw passed cleanly through the dark matter, leaving the entity completely unharmed.

”If shadows and physical force won’t work, I’ll burn it to ash!” Kyle growled, his knuckles whitening.

’Dark Flames!’

Kyle channeled his demonic core, expending 300 points of Demon Energy—150 for each palm. Instantly, the terrifying, unholy dark flames of the first great demon erupted into his hands. The temperature inside the collapsing tree plummeted rather than rose, a paradoxical trait of the high-tier hellfire that fed on the surrounding light.

”Die!” Kyle leaped from his footholds, utilizing the 15% baseline movement speed boost from his abyssal leg. He closed the distance in a flash, slamming both flaming palms directly into the center of the giant burning red circle.

*BOOM!*

Finally, a reaction. The dark flames interacted violently with the Nabuyak’s composition. The creature let out a high-pitched, screeching wail as the unholy fire began to violently eat away at its dark energy structure. The high-tier corruption of the first great demon’s fire was the only thing capable of burning an entity made of pure malice.

But the victory was short-lived. The beast, enraged by the genuine pain, thrashed violently. The massive vortex expanded, exploding outward in a chaotic burst of kinetic dark force.

Kyle was at point-blank range. The explosion caught him full in the chest, blasting him through three layers of ancient, skyscraper-sized branches. The structural integrity of the ancient tree’s upper half completely gave way under the force of the blast. The canopy shattered, a massive section of the 50-meter trunk collapsing inward, creating a terrifying avalanche of wood, runes, and dust.

Kyle hit the ground hard, coughing up a mouthful of dark, demonic blood. His vision swam, the interface flashing a blinding red before his eyes.

**[CRITICAL ALERT: HP: 320/1000]**

**[Demon Energy: 2200/2500]**

**[Invisible Devil Scales damaged. Medium regeneration initiated... passive recovery active.]**

The toll on his physical body was immense. Every bone in his torso felt fractured, the agonizing pain tearing through his focus. He could feel his life force draining steadily, compounded by the passive resource pull of the companion pact with the deer resting in his left hand.

”Kyle!” a voice gasped beside him.

Elara had been thrown clear of his shoulder during the catastrophic fall. She was on her hands and knees, her face pale, but her eyes were clear. The life crystal blessing from the deer was still actively pulsing within her chest, granting her total immunity to the planet’s toxic atmosphere, but her own internal mana was still dangerously low. Yet, seeing Kyle on the verge of being crushed, her expression hardened.

Above them, the Nabuyak reassembled itself within the ruins of the shattered tree trunk. The dark flames were still eating at its edges, but its black snake eyes were locked onto Kyle with absolute, murderous intent. It gathered a massive ball of concentrated dark energy, preparing to wipe them off the face of the planet.

[Host! It’s preparing a terminal dark energy discharge!] Snow shouted, her tone filled with a rare, absolute panic. [A direct hit in your current state will result in permanent cessation of life functions! You must use the Sub-Skill: Divergence Flames, but the cost will completely drain your immediate physical vitality!]

’Do it!’ Kyle roared mentally, his willpower overriding the agonizing screams of his broken tissue.

Kyle thrust his palms upward, expending another 200 points of Demon Energy alongside a massive chunk of his remaining stamina. *’Divergence Flames!’*

The dark fire in his palms split, multiplying into a wild, uncontrollable storm of black hellfire that spiraled toward the sky. The sheer strain of controlling the high-tier spell tore at his muscles. He could feel his own heart straining, the feedback of the spell nearly bursting his blood vessels.

But it wasn’t enough. The Nabuyak’s gathered energy mass was too large, the planetary dark energy actively reinforcing its structure. The black flames and the crimson vortex clashed mid-air, creating a blinding, screeching deadlock that began to crush Kyle back into the earth. His arms trembled, his vision fading to black at the edges. He was losing.

Suddenly, a brilliant, blinding white light pierced through the crimson dust of the clearing.

”In the name of the ancient stars, yield!” Elara screamed, her hands weaving a complex, advanced dark arts mudra that inverted the ambient light of the clearing.

Though she was a practitioner of the dark arts, high-tier witchcraft allowed the manipulation of polarities. She forcefully converted her remaining internal mana into a localized burst of raw, blinding light affinity magic, directing the piercing beam straight into the side of the Nabuyak’s black snake eyes.

The light spell wasn’t powerful enough to destroy the apex beast, but it was an absolute, perfect distraction. The unexpected searing light flashed directly across the creature’s horizontal pupils, blinding its tracking matrix and causing its concentrated dark energy discharge to waver and veer off course.

”Now, Kyle! Strike!” Elara shouted, her breath completely failing as she collapsed from absolute exhaustion, her mana core completely empty.

With the Nabuyak’s focus broken, the deadlock shattered.

[Host! Use the physical defense ignore from the Abyssal Talon! Channel the remaining Divergence Flames through the limb!] Snow commanded, her calculations perfectly mapping the trajectory.
